Yooka-Replaylee brings a whole host of improvements to make this the definitive way to (re)play(lee), including a new camera, improved controls, ability tweaks, remixed and new challenges, modernised visuals and more!
And make sure you stick around to the end of the video to see a new addition to the sales team! - เกม
We got a HD remake of a spiritual successor to banjo kazooie before an actual new banjo game…
Alas Microsoft as per usual bought it just to kill it 😢
it's a remaster lol. totally fine for this game, it def deserves it
@@scottyarcade6061 The problem isn't Microsoft, Gregg Mayles says he runout of ideas for Banjo and wants to work on other projects.
@@orangeslash1667Even if he did have an idea, Microsoft would still have to greenlight it.
@@theotherkyand with Rare dead, they'd have to find a developer to make it. (Preferably Play-Tonic.)
I think this game really needed this. The game has potential, but it's rough around the edges and hopefully this can make it more approachable
It'll be a great thing the deeper you look into things. The game was originally a Kickstarter project and used the Unity Engine which did have some limitations in the past. But lately, there have been plenty of games that have made a splash using the Unity Engine.
Hollow Knight, Outer Wilds, Subnautica, Cuphead, Among Us, Untitled Goose Game, Digimon World: Next Order and the Ori franchise have used the Unity Engine and have shown that they can keep up with the big releases.
After all this time, the engine has seen a large amount of improvements and it will allow for the developers to release a definitive version of the game.
@@isaigutierrez1617 Yeah I backed the project on Kickstarter because they made Banjo-Kazooie, one of my all time favorites.
Let's keep this in mind, they could replace Shovel Knight with a new cameo if they choose to, or if Shovel Knight's owners decline a renewal agreement. I vote Spyro. Although the 3D and 2D joke would have to be lost, so I really hope they bring Shovel Knight back in.
If I had to guess why they choose to remake the game so soon (considering this game ain't even 10 years old yet), maybe this is a test after the success of Yooka-Laylee the Impossible Lair to see if there's significant interest in new 3D Yooka games, in which case maybe that could mean there'll be a true 3D sequel to Yooka on the way which would be awesome
@@GamerOfPhones I think they'll keep Shovel Knight in the game. Outside of Yooka Laylee, Shovel Knight was included in Brawlhalla as a playable character. Some extra indie game cameos would be awesome
Very interesting. I know that many people had issue with the og game. This could be a greate chance to address some of them and I bet with the more experienced studio now, they will be better at realizing their vision.
I think the issues people had were more fundamental to the gameplay and level design. I doubt they will change much of anything other than the visuals. Personally, I loved the original game but I just didn't have a problem with the common criticisms. It felt like they delivered exactly what they promised and nothing more, but most people had expectations that it would be something like Super Mario Odyssey I guess.
*Only thing I think they didn't deliver were DLC which I think were promised though I wasn't a Kickstarter backer. So I don't know for sure if they did promise DLC.
@@_ch1pset I dunno, my main problem was the character movement, especially the stamina bar and the platforming feeling clunky. The level design didn't help. But those are all (mostly) things that could be improved!
@@Semudara I should delete that comment, they are changing a lot, adding new stuff, etc. and we don't know the full extent of changes. It looks to be somewhere between a remaster and reimagining.
@@_ch1pset I thought expanding levels was the dumbest gameplay mechanic I've ever seen. That, and only being able to use certain "tonics" at a time.
Looking forward to the Wii U version
🤣🤣 Nah fam, Imma hold out for the PSP port to take it on the go.
You mean the switch version
@@Zebra_fandomfella03 no, I meant DA WII U VERSION
@@Zebra_fandomfella03 I actually do hope they make a Switch Version, I'm assuming this remake won't have the *pirate's curse* for us to worry about.
There used to be a time when evil persons would only embed cursed cyberspace programming if the player used a cheat device or some other action only possible with severe RNG abuse.
You'll be waiting a long time...
Tooka Laylee when????

Going off Banjo Tooie logic lol
Well the second game was the liar one in 2d

it feels strange to see such a recent game remade like this
It's not a remake, it's a remaster. 7 years is early for a remake but not for a remaster. Not saying that this game needed it but.
@@Ustaleone Provided native PS5/Xbox Series consoles can target 60fps, or at the very least offer a performance mode over just visuals, then there's a solid enough case for it. The original is a legacy PS4/XB1 applications stuck at 1080/30 at best and were never even given PS4 Pro/XB1X enhancement patches.
@@Ustaleone I mean, it only took 6 years for Capcom to remake the first Resident Evil. Obviously, different time back then, but still got it done regardless
@Ustaleone 7 years?! Jesus... Fuck...
@@Ustaleone i did not realize it has been 7 years oh god
This is honestly a great thing. Fantastic way for the entire team to go back to see what worked in order to make what's next, something incredibly special! Can't wait to play and platinum this again!

You've gotta be mentally a child to be this optimistic about something like this
@@LocalMultiplex what makes you think it's a bit? Lol.
If they wanted to fix the original, they should've updated it instead of rereleasing the same game with minimal improvements.
@@VideoGameTaco-mo9qc What improvements are minimal? It's not only the graphics, it's also the roll command that gets an improvement, and there is more to come so it's just the beginning lol.
I think the original needed more than a new coat of paint.
Money! 😊
It needed more enemies types.
@@uhhh_adamand bosses
Did you read the Steam page? They're fixing it.
Yeah and that's why they are doing more than just visuals with this re-release
Ooh, Laylee is all fluffy now! Love it 🦇💜
SHE'S SO SOFT
YES I WANNA HUG HER 💜🦇🤗🦇💜
Doesn't effect that game in any way, and while in motion aka playing, you wont even notice the fur.
@PlaytonicGamesltd What's new in this version? What's changed? What'd different? New game engine?
@@PlaytonicGamesltd Just waiting for the plushies now 😍
This is a massive surprise, I’m really hyped to see the changes and fixes! The graphics look absolutely beautiful.
Yooka: Hey, my game's getting a remake.
Banjo: Hey, I bet my game is next!
Yooka: Hey, I doubt it.
That’s really funny because they literally said they didn’t wanna do remakes or remasters, but they’re making this
Microsoft: _”Best I can do is paid DLC for Sea of Thieves with a Banjo Kazooie t-shirt on a random NPC”_
New camera and improved controls has me interested more than remastered visuals. Looking forward to learning more about this!
The original game's movement controls were one of its aspects that were an improvement over Banjo, so I don't understand why it needs to be changed.
Using the manual controls in the original gave full control over the camera, so most faults after they patched that into the game should be at the fault of the person controlling the camera
Pretty sure the improved camera controls are gonna be the same used on the Switch version, can’t wait to play this again tbh
@@bradneko_14why would the camera in the Switch version be different?
@@Rusty84CV because of the complaints of the original camera controls. Unlike the ports for Xbox One and PS4, Playtonic actually made the Switch port themselves (which released waay later) and fixed that specific issue.
This looks gorgeous. I would have liked a new game, but this is good news to see that they're still alive!
Still alive and cooking up more than one thing dw ;)
@@PlaytonicGamesltd 👀👀👀Tooka-Laylee with the new graphics and improvements seen here?
@@PlaytonicGamesltd Ahah, can't wait to see more of their adventures! I'm a huge fan of your work!
@@PlaytonicGamesltd indeed. i'm glad you remake it and im looking forward on playing it again just to see the changes and what you been cooking up to. :)
@@PlaytonicGamesltdconker like game pls 🙏
For the people surprised that this is getting a remaster, did you all forget that this game came out 7 years ago lol
Yeah, and I don’t think that is enough time to deserve a remake maybe 10 or 15 years but not seven that’s still really short for a game plus it was a very mid game that didn’t sell well. Also they literally said they weren’t gonna do remakes which is where the whole controversy about banjo Kazi happened
Yooka-Laylee is truly the Street Fighter of indie games; coming back from their first release SPECTACULARLY.
Of all announcements I saw on Steam today, this one caught me by surprise! As someone who ended up 100%-ing the original game after the Voice-Camera patch, I'm excited for this remake!
It's actually a remaster...an example of a remake would be like going from OG RE2/3 to current gen RE2/3
I’m glad you haven’t abandoned this series, it is so much potential. Tbh, I loved the original game more than most. I didn’t have that many issues with it. I preferred to Hat in time but I know I’m in the minority on that.
Hopefully a true sequel is on the way in the future
A hat in time is like Mario. It's nothing like Banjo Kazooie etc.
@@svenmandelkorn3238 True, but people made the comparison at the time because they came out close together. Most people said it was great and Yooka wasn’t but I disagree with that sentiment
@@darudesandstrom1067 same here. Yooka Laylee was great.
Now I want that New-ka Laylee game so bad!
I happily 100%-ed this game during Covid!
I fell off back in the day after it launched, specifically in the ice world, wasnt having fun.
I adore DK64, and after replaying DK I had an amazing time completing everything in Yooka Laylee! Even the ice world haha
Backtracking experience... I know how it feels to have the habit of this, which is a great thing! I grew up with DK64 and Tooie and it's the reason why I didn't have a problem with the backtracking of YL.
As a BIG Banjo Kazooie + Tooie fan since the N64 era, I absolutely loved Yokaa Laylee. It had a few flaws but huge potential. The music, the constantly present villain, crazy levels, etc... This announcement made me incredibly happy. I'm still hoping for Twokaa-Laylee ;)
wanted to replay this anyways, perfect opportunity xD👍
Lool same here but I kinda could, was hesitant since I already beat it twice. This is perfect BUT I'm kinda worried over the new looks. Because it looks like Spyro, Kao the Kangaroo. I hope they have not killed the Rare/64 iconic nostalgic looks that I SO LOVE.
same.. I almost rebought it when it was on sale. I'm glad I waited.
Looks fantastic! Yooka-Laylee already looked great, so this brings so much more charm to an already charming game! Can’t wait to see the new content. I’d be happy with a straight remake so this is awesome to see.
This looks SOOO AMAZING !!! I can't stop rewatching it. Pausing, trying to see every detail etc.
This is cool and all, but I was hoping for a proper sequel 😢
will still purchase though. ❤
Crazy how this gets a remaster before I even got my kickstarter reward for the original.

wow i Love this remaster ❤💕😘
Absolutely on my LetsPlay Stream & Upload List ❤
Just the excuse I needed to play it again, lets go!
Yooka laylee is officially out of beta limbo.
But joking aside, it looks dope! I’m glad ya’ll went back to it.
Imagine a crossover game between Yooka Laylee and Banjo Kazooie
That would be cool but we got shovel Knight in the game. So that was nice 😅
I mean this in the most respectful way possible but I hope they fix the final boss cause I remember it being kinda broken and just overall not good
tbf all of the bosses weren't the best designed
I really hope they completely overhaul the bosses and make them good lol
@@Evenifindoingidieinonehour yeah I agree though I really enjoy the game despite it's shortcomings I really think it has potential to be very good. So this is a great opportunity cause I feel there was heart and soul put into the game just maybe it's budget wasn't all there. I want it to be good and succeed
So it wasn't just me having trouble there. Good to know!
@@RoboticMagus that boss felt like it was trying to be like the Grunty fight from BK but it just didn't work
I did enjoy the bosses. I played the game much later after release so maybe that was fixed or something but I had no issues with any of the bosses.
Yooka Laylee Impossible Lair, it was the best game they delivered.
This is the correct take, I feel like remastering this and bundling a slightly updated Impossible Lair was the correct answer here, not just remastering the first Yooka-Laylee.
they might redesign bits here and there to improve this game
@@doesboknow2 Correct answer for whom? You are aware making games costs money, right?
No, yooka Laylee was much better.
3D platformers for life!
With Yooka Laylee being the return to Banjo Kazooie-style gameplay, and the Impossible Lair being their big return to Donkey Kong Country, is anyone else secretly hoping for a Yooka Laylee FPS to pick up from 007: Goldeneye?
Can’t wait for this! I was late to the party andonly beat Yooka Laylee and then Impossible Lair a few months ago. Now I’m geared up to get started all over again!
Despite me owning the game on switch...yeah. I want it. It looks so good! And if the game feel is better than the original, I'm so getting it!
That was everyone's main complaint with the first game. "It was unpolished", and "needed more time in the oven". The fact that this could be the polished Yooka-Laylee everyone wanted in 2017...is awesome.
I hope so, but the trailer didn't really show any improvements in actual gameplay or level design.
@@InFiniTosEntertainment It really doesn't, but we'll just have to wait and see in due time. 🤷♀
@@Calabari1999It’s the reason why I kinda lost interest when I heard about the issues from the OG version, fingers crossed that they fixed all of the issues in this remaster because I really want to play this.
Most people's complaints weren't that the game was unpolished or undercooked. Most of them were about the needlessly huge empty levels and baffling and poor game/level/sound design choices.
It was like someone trying to make the absolute biggest cake possible, while questionably mixing the ingredients in uncontrolled manners and amounts. Then as they decorated the cake as best as they could, they haphazardly tossed on a bunch of nostalgia bells and whistles onto it with little direction that mostly just looked and felt off. They somehow still ended up with an alright cake in the end, but there was just so much that was just... Off.
Basically they were way over-ambitious at the time, and extra time in the oven wouldn't have fixed the fundamental problems dragging the game down without a major or complete overhaul.
Thankfully, it seems like they are trying for that overhaul here, and have the power of hindsight to work on the originals problems. So I'm more than willing to give it a shot.
2017 was also a ridiculously good year for games too. I reckon if Yooka Laylee came out this year with no microtransactions, lootboxes, etc it would be better than most modern games
Hope its more than just looks better.
It's much more than just a lick of paint! Check out the Steam page!

Please Continue to do great things playtonic! The impossible layer was super fun and this update looks amazing. It really brought me good faith to see you guys continue to be active and polishing ur hit game all these years later.
This’ll be interesting. Iirc people criticized the level design and controls, so it’s neat to see the devs go back and improve areas of the game.
THEY ARE BACK! OMG
For this remastered version, I really hope they give you health during the Capital B fight after each phase like in Banjo-Kazooie.
Oh my gah! So excited to even hear from you guys again!
Looks good. Bring it on!
So I'll have to rebuy this then?
I don't know if I will. I really hate buying the same game multiple times.
Such mixed feelings about this.
It does take money to remaster a game thoroughly, especially if they deliver on the promises of QoL, gameplay enhancements, smoothing, etc. If that's not worth the money, they're not taking the original away from you, eh?
@@vivaldi_is_dreaming Maybe so, but it also isn't the same as making an entirely NEW game either, and having to buy it over is making you pay for that.
I might also feel differently if I bought the game on release, but I only played the game less than 2 years ago.
I remember buying a 5 quid used copy of this game. I still love it to this day
They had to reveal a remake, right after I bought the original.
Edit: also, I know it’s just the characters that are named after instruments, but, to be honest, I think it should have been call Yooka-Laylee: ReTuned
Agreed. Yooka Replaylee is cute, but it’s just gonna confuse people.
This looks incredible!
Yoooo they might make it good this time!!! 🎉
These two deserves more video game titles.
You know it's gonna look good when the video quality is 4K
Hmm, is anything changed besides the visuals? I'll wishlist regardless, but what is included to entice returning players?
Yooka Laylee and the impossible layer is legit one of the best platformers ever made.
Please bring a sequel to that 😢.
It rivals Nintendo's own Mario and Donkey Kong. A masterclass of platforming design.
Looks newer than never before.
Can you guys add a mission preferably with Yooka and Laylee where you have to mash X to eat tumble dryer..please I would love to see both Yooka and Laylee eat tumble dryer and feel square at heart. It’s been like 30 years since I went to school and watching Yooka and Laylee both eat a tumble dryer would make my tumble day. In fact I love tumble dryers myself and if you guys add tumble dryer to the remake I’ll be more than happy and buy 5 copies of Yooka Laylee tumble dryer edition. I like collecting tumble dryers irl, I have a blue one and a red one both with glossy finish so if you guys don’t mind… please add an edible tumble dryer so I can feel dried and tumbled, thank you bob.
This looks awesome. What’s the “more to come”?
What's shown in this announcement isn't the only batch of things that are new to the game. Many other features will be shown another day :D

Now it Looks EVEN BETTER!
I am glad to see Yooka-Laylee still see the light of day. The first game had serious potential and some fun ideas but needed work on its execution. I still consider it a fun game that’s pretty rough around the edges so it’s cool to see them give it a 2nd chance.

They said they are working on another yooka laylee title
This is fair though how they're talking, I'm thinking they have a proper full sequel coming up next and this is just a project they used to get used to their new engine and drum up buzz around the series again - Considering the OG game is 7 years old and kiiind of stuck on last-gen hardware in a way it's not a bad strategy.
