I used to use a 56k modem back in 1998, was hooked on Starcraft and if my mom picked up the phone from the other room the internet connection would get disconnected. One of the most frustrating feelings you could experience!

Plus there was that hourly rate as well. I was limited to one hour each night. Imagine my shock when we got broadband. Faster, plus the rate stayed the same regardless of usage. Also you could use the phone at the same time. Mind blown
EVEN IF you're bad at technology, somebody tells you that you can watch a 2 min movie trailer after waiting 10 min and you dont think, "wait i can see it instantly right now, in fact i dont know anybody that has to wait this long, this is a terribly slow product"

This is hilarious to me, because I only just got broadband wifi April of this year along with my rest of the town, and I'm still hooked into Dial-Up as well technically.

In case anyone is wondering, 1 mbps = 1000 kbps. 56k modems, as the name implies, download at 56 kpbs. "Basic" WiFi plans (globally, mind you) average 3 to 8 mpbs, AKA 3000 to 8000 kbps lmao. That's how slow 56k modems are.
You know, considering how big of a part computers now play in society, it really is baffling that more people don't try and figure them out. Literally every aspect of your life can be improved simply by understanding how to use a computer to its fullest potential. I used to sell laptops, and it was really astonishing just how little people knew about computers. Like 1 in a 100 had any real clue of what they were doing. I could have told them it connected to the matrix and they would have believed me.

People are dumb, even so called experts. I brought a gaming computer, spent $7000 on it. High quality components etc. The sales assistant said he would throw a couple of games in for free, since it was a high end purchase. Considering the computer I got had no DVD/DVR component, I was stunned when he took me to games rack and ask me to choose 3. So I choose 3, we went back to the counter and I asked him how I was to load the games. He honestly told me to just “just slide it into the slot” and follow the instructions on the screen. I asked him to show me the slot, he literally look over the tower for like 5 minutes, pulling out the dust covers for the fan etc. I eventually just said to him
“ how the fuck do you work in the computer department as a salesman and not know that this computer does not have a DVD/dvr”. He looked at me and said”well how do you get games on it then”. I literally laughed out loud in his face and said “never mind” and left

You will be surprised at some people actually need this and will actually buy it. Broadband Cable Internet is standard now, but for some people, it is either way too expensive or no Broadband Cable Internet in their area. With this, they can plug it in their phone line like 99% of every household has one and it double the speed, are you kidding me!? They will be in line to get it.
Wish we had 56k back in 2005 in rural Texas. The best we could get was 24k, and that would drop to 19.9k or 14.4k if it was raining. Sure, AT&T promised us fiber optics, but they've only just started putting those lines in around here _this_ year... after we've moved on to Hughesnet, Dish Net/Wildblue and NextLink. Sorry, AT&T, but you're 28 years too late getting off your worthless asses and keeping your promises to your customers. Hell, we don't even use your cell phones around here, any more. =)
