    Hi there, like as mentioned in some other comments, I never comment but just HAD TO comment for this first time because of the depth of your analysis.Your 43min video trumped all the fluffy sales talk I got for hours of shopping around+days of online research. Your focus on side-by-side show-and-tell of the same task/feature of the two candidates really let us see the nuances that are almost impossible to notice at stores.
    I also love how you always state very cleary on WHY you personally consider a factor as a pro/con/something that does not matter in a real-life situation FOR YOU PERSONALLY. Your honesty about your personal preferences show to what extent you may be "subjective", and hence is actually the most "objective" review I found so far.
    For example, nobody out there shows how the hinges compare, how they flex, and how much folding the keyboard outwards may potentially damage the keyboards if the rubber padding isn't thick enough. And little people realize that 4K resolution may sound brilliant, but may be more computationally taxing, hence the heating issue, which is related to fan noise. These implicit details made explicit really help elucidate pitfalls, making one rethink what the specs associated with the price tag really mean in practical situations.
    Your videos can sure help many people make better choices, if they only had the luck of stumbling on this gem;do keep this well-researched style up, we love it and all thank you for walking us through this tough pick !

      I’m a female novice at all things tech and I’m currently in search for my first laptop. This review was very helpful. If I wanted to go for the lightest, smallest (without compromising on practicality and functionality eg. you mentioned 4K is not necessary for 13” screen) and of course good looks for an everyday use laptop, which would you recommend? I’m liking the HP elite dragonfly but I feel I won’t need to use all of its high end features but it ticks 3 of my boxes. Please help

I really like how you demonstrate the build quality; I was originally leaning more towards the Inspiron but the way it was wobbling and its hinge not being as sturdy has made me rethink XPS. I had to make the same decision some month ago and went with the Inspiron 7391 2 in 1. The XPS would be available with 1TB SSD and 32GB RAM but then would cost as 2 Inspirons. I am quite happy with the Inspiron and see the barrel charger as a point as the charger does not block my only TB-Port. I still wish I had 2 TB ports as not all divices are daisychaining and there are no TB hubs available per specification. If I had to make my choice to to again now, I would go with the XPS as 32 GB RAM is quite an advantage. Especially as prices went down quite a lot, I would recommend buying the XPS if possible, but always with 32GB RAM, as you can not upgrade it later, unlike the SSD which can get changed at any time later. The UHD display is for sure not a must, but it helps in many situation, like doing high res screenshots. Thanks for your review.

    you can actually lower the screen resolution in windows display settings, thus significantly reducing the performance and battery taxes (and fan noise) associated with 4k when you dont need it for everyday tasks or gaming, then switch back to 4k for movies etc. so in my opinion, 4k screen will always be the winner.

    • @JosephKim
      @JosephKim  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even so, you are still turning on extra amount of pixels on the screen. I think it would still consume extra power for that.

    • @miliano8274
      @miliano8274 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JosephKim this is true, a lower pixel density screen will not consume as much, although i feel the pixel power saving difference would be negligible in real world use.
      But in contrast, lowering the resolution to 2k or less will significantly increase CPU performance on any given task, greatly reduce battery consumption, cpu loading, and run cooler and quieter.
      I wouldnt be surprised if you get a 2-3+ more hours of battery life.
      Also considering the flexibility of running a lower resolution and then able to upscale to 4k natively when the need arises (editing 4k design content for example), outweighs the power saving just from pixels alone. Options are a good thing, especially in this circumstance where you are not really having to sacrifice.
      It be cool if you could test it out for a day and report you findings. I'm in 2 minds which one to buy at the moment.

    • @JosephKim
      @JosephKim  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@miliano8274 I do agree with your thoughts and have considered just lowering the resolution. But because I am so nitpicky (as you saw on the video), chaninging resolution for perticular task would require rearranging windows and setup I have inside the application. Therefore not ever changing
      resolution. At that point, I am not sure 4k is really needed in my case. Also, I don't really consume media or have a huge need in getting 4k in my workflow. If my screen is larger than 32 inch, I think I would like that resolution. But certainly not anything smaller.

Aside from Dell's premium XPS line, there are very few other systems that could keep up while also having good battery life for on the go. Ive looked at many systems. Only thing is the rubber tip pen and the quality of the screen writings are not the best, so I was considering upgrading to a MS Surface or similar Dell product with a better screen writing quality and pen.. Actually I like Dell much better than MS. The Surface is too expensive for me. So I was considering the XPS, but thanks to your video I now realize that the newer Inspiron does a much better job with the included pen and screen writing performance. Noise and heat? :)

    • @looneyburgmusic
      @looneyburgmusic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@JosephKim Noise really isn't an issue with either model for me, since I always have music playing via headphones/earbuds when I'm working, so I rarely hear the fans spinning up. The Inspiron can get a bit warm, if I push it to the limit, but so does my Surface Pro 7, which cost 3x as much. Computers generate heat, that's a fact of life, but it's nothing compared to the old days, when we could literally cook food on the CPU so I have no complaints. When any of my portables gets too toasty I just back off whatever I was doing for a bit and let it cool down some, no big deal.

    Getting the newer model of the inspiron 7000 black edition in a few days. In my opinion, QHD 16:10 instead of the 4k 16:9 would have been the better solution to differentiate the Black Edition from the normal Inspiron 7000. That way it would've been a true upgrade instead of something that comes with both good and bad sides.
    Nonetheless, I took the Black edition because of the better pricing than XPS and the pen holder which is just incredibly useful.

It is almost impossible to see the letters and symbols on the keyboard even though the maximum backlight is set. The light proceeding from the screen makes it impossible. It is very difficult to use it with this incomprehensible error in the design. Although Dell has acknowledged the issue, they have not solved it, due to the time elapsed from purchase to opening.
