Honestly, Axel just feels like a combination of Eva from Island (shouts a lot and threatens others for little reason), Jo from Revenge of the Island (overly competitive with a rivalry between another constant), and Shawn from Pahkitew (obsessed with zombies).
I feel Axel could’ve been a little more unique if they just cut the zombie angle and just made her a hardcore survivalist, at least she went out of her way to help her team (for purely pragmatic reasons but still) as she went out and personally caught (and cooked) them all breakfast.
I feel like that’s what they did. Like, to the letter. Sure zombie apocalypse was an example of her survival skills, but it only came up once. She’s more of a survivalist than an apocalypse fear-monger, which can be shown by her hunting squirrels for her team’s breakfast, and having a metric buttload of tools and supplies for survival.
