Week 1 Scared of The Ghost

The Holy Spirit is one of the most over taught and under taught persons in the Holy Trinity. The level of teaching and instruction you receive is highly dependent on the denomination of the congregation you attend. People can have very strong views on the Holy Spirit and sometimes these views can cause us to have blind spots to the Word of God on both sides of the discussion.
Have you ever had a misconception about someone in your life? Maybe the way you viewed and thought about someone was shaped by things you heard, your inner circle of close friends, your family and maybe even a trusted leader or advisor. You came to what you thought was a solid conclusion and then you actually met the person and maybe even spent some time with them and begin to doubt what you originally thought about them.
The moment you actually meet the person for yourself, talk with them for yourself and allow them to actually speak and defend themselves then the blinders begin to come down and you realize the person isn’t at all what you thought or was taught. Through this not only are the misconceptions torn down but often times we gain a friend in the process as well.
The Holy Spirit is not scary, The Holy Spirit is not fruity, The Holy Spirit is God and He is the third person of the Trinity. He is incredibly important to our life and walk with Christ. Over the next three to four weeks, I want to discuss the person of the Holy Spirit as well as the outpourings or the workings of the Holy Spirit.
I want to encourage all of us to dig into these teachings and to go home and study the Word of God for ourselves to see what God has to say about Himself and who He is.
