These lyrics certainly evoke a certain kind of nostalgia in me as an Icelander, remembering some sketchy drives as a passenger over the Icelandic highland passes in the dark winter with some quite powerful gusts of wind pushing the car around... The only thing you see is the black of night, but the lights of the car light up the blowing snow so that it almost looks like the millennium falcon entering lightspeed: the streaks of white come out of the darkness rush towards the window but bend around the car like little stars. It feels like we're driving a bit too fast, but we're really not, it's just the illusion of the snow and the wind and strafing of the car. There's a voice on the radio, a calming voice of an older woman, though it is sometimes interrupted when the wind bends the antenna on the outside of the car, she's announcing the last weather report of the night, it's the one for the fishing boats out at sea. I can feel the very hot air from the car's AC blowing on feet that are wrapped in some very thick wool socks, I've kicked my rubber boots off to feel the heat, but I also lay my cheek against the cold glass of the passenger window, it's a nice contrast. I fall asleep, tumbling around in my dream as the car slides from side to side on the road. I wake up to the sound of my parents opening the car doors and the cold air rushing in. We're here, at the destination, it's unclear if we're home or just arrived at the house of some old friend.
I don't know what's happening in the video, but the visuals are absolutely stunning and the song is amazing! I love the electronic elements as well. Parts of the video were filmed at the Búrfell hydropower station and the Sultartangi power station in Iceland.
