Thank you. I used floats for the first couple of years but they tended to get in the way. I had them on there more out of fear of rolling the kayak. Never imagined my net would hook like that. Funny thing is, I wanted to cut 6 inches off that handle because it felt too long. Just hadn't done it yet.
You're wrong. Actually an acquaintance that lives there in Central Maine caught a 7 in June. They are there. Obviously, with the long cold winters, those beauties are not as plentiful. I cannot imagine the fight he got from a Northern 7. That type of fish is much more common in southern Maine.
That was awesome . And what an amazing fish. Hope you are able to find your rod. Keep us posted. Same thing happened to me in Minnesota. Tried to find it but to no avail. I was in much deeper water though so maybe you'll have better luck. Thanks for the video Tracy.
Nice fish Tracy hated to hear about your rod and real and I feel your pain. I went over in bad weather and lost 5 out of the six. Have everything tethered on my kayak now. Hope you have another good day tomorrow. Happy Thanksgiving.
Oh my goodness!!! Yeah.... My mishap was mild compared to a few stories I've heard. I can lock my rods into my rod holder on 4 of the 6 rods but it's just so inconvenient when I'm switching rods constantly. I'll have to make an attempt though. Thanks David.
WOW a bitter sweet victory you were catching some amazing size bass on Thanksgiving! I hope you are able to retrieve your nice rod again when you said this was the biggest fish you caught, but thank you kept catching bigger yes let’s go! You brought the biggest smile from me today I’ve been waiting to see you to get back into that Florida groove again and it didn’t disappoint today! After everything you went through this was a well deserved day on the water thank you again Tracy for an awesome video! Tight lines take care and God bless!
Great Video, Tracy. Loved the "Beast" you caught, too! Great fish catches Always counter "misfortunes". (Ya got the Blackpack, why not use the little "Rod Keepers" it comes with? Or did you lose it from an auxiliary rod holder?).
Thanks Mikey. The rod & reel came out of one of the other holders on the rail, not the blackpack. Those rod holders have a twisting lock, but I have a really hard time with my arthritic hands, twisting the collars. I gave it a try on the next fishing trip but it was pretty painful and time consuming. I switch rods back and forth pretty much the entire outing. If it was a common occurrence, I'd figure out a fix. But since it was a freak accident, I just cut the net handle down by 5.5 inches and called it good. (like I originally intended to do when I bought that net while I was in Maine).
I used to use the rod floaties. I'm not big on tethering everything to the kayak. It was just a freaky ordeal. It's a real pain untethering rods when I want to switch out quickly. Which I pretty much swap rods the entire time I'm fishing.
@ I bet it is annoying. I got a new kayak over the weekend so just thinking about some stuff to add to it. I might try some stretchy rod leashes of some sort. Wonder if there are any you can keep on and cast without being too much in the way?
@@OldLadyAngler will do! Thanks! I will do a bit of investigating and see if I can find anything worthwhile! If not, I’ll probably just get one that I can clasp on and off as quick as possible when switching rods. I didn’t really use them on my old kayak, but my new one has more space so I will probably carry multiples more often.
yeah I spent the first few years with rod floats. I was mainly worried about rolling the kayak and losing everything. I don't really have that feeling anymore so off with the floats. Much better without them. I'll chalk this up to a freak accident. Happens once. I've already cut 5.5 inches off the net handle, so this should be the one and only time.
Wow Ola 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻What an EPIC day on the water.Awesome video.🙏❤️👍😎🎣
Thanks 👍
Oh wow ! Well done 👍
Thank you so much!
@ you’re welcome 👍💜
Great video 👍 I always had floats on my rods when Kayak fishing. That saved my rod/reel on several occasions. Thanks for sharing a great video.

Wow what a day. Quality and quantity is always a welcome day on the water. Keep us posted on the quest for the lost rod. Thanks for sharing..
Thanks for the kind words and encouragement! I'll post an update on the rod.
Great bite and great fish at the end. Sorry about the rod and hope you were able to find it and some more fish when you went back.
Thanks Fred.
Nothing that big in Maine beautiful fish way to go !

Thanks so much! I appreciate the kind words. I had a great time, despite losing a rod.

Sorry about the rod loss! Hopefully you got a fun replacement at least! Have you ever used rod leashes? I’m debating on getting a few.

Good luck finding those. Let me know if you do. Congrats on your kayak.

Nice 7 pounder. For the year what do you thing was your most productive lure?
Thank you. In Florida, the FLUKE was my best and in Maine it was the Neko Rig.
I lost a brand new rod and reel once. Now I have floats on all my gear 😊
