I’m a CNA and have been working in peds for 2.5 years and will be attending an ABSN program this fall-so excited because I want to continue my peds career. Best distraction I do for getting a kid’s BP is making sound effects. “This is my blood pressure cuff & it’s going to hug your arm just like mama or daddy hugs you (whoever is in the room). It’s going to puff up like a balloon watch: Boom, boom, boom, bloop” Pre-Covid they always stared at the funny faces I made, but now it’s a bit harder😅
😭i'm a first time nurse and just got assigned to pediatrics. i'm so used to having adult patients and now i'm quite anxious about being a pedia nurse. i mean i've got to restart and familiarize myself with it. thank you for the tips!
Yes!! Parents are KEY!! Building a good rapport with our patient’s parents makes the day more smooth. At the end of the day parents are NOT the worst part about pediatrics, they’re just scared about their babies.
I graduate this weekend from my BSN program and my first job will be in pediatric nursing (woo hoo!) and this has always been my passion but I am very nervous since I've mainly worked with adults, but this helped me gain more confidence! Thank you!
@@nemesis6851 You will do great! When in doubt always use your resources! Including looking up the policies, asking your preceptor, charge nurse or anyone you've gotten close to on your unit. Teamwork is the answer 50% of the time!
This to me is so suprising because when I was a kid, I never kick or screamed while the nurse checked my vitals. I would cry when I needed a shot, but that was it. This opened my eyes and now I know it will be a challenge I am looking forward to!!
I think it’s so great how you explained that health care professionals should come from a place of understanding when it comes to dealing with parents. This is extremely important especially when it comes to difficult parents. Understanding where they are coming from will help with not taking their behavior and emotions personally!
Yes!! Building that trust is KEY in peds. It upsets me so much when parents threaten their kids by saying “if you don’t calm down I’m going to tell the nurse to give you a shot” that instills so much fear towards medical professionals and completely breaks that trust. Being patient and honest with the little ones is the way to go.
I’m a senior in high school and chose pediatric nursing as my subject. This video will help a lot. Who needs a mentor when I have TH-cam videos? And I was a calm patient even as a little kid.
I truly appreciate pediatric nurses. I spent a week in the hospital with my 4yr old when she had really bad pneumonia and blood infection. They were so patient with my baby and made the situation sooo much better to deal with
I graduated from nursing school in May, passed the NCLEX and searching for my dream job in the NICU!!!!! I'm currently a tech in the NICU and definitely is a two person thing for most things with the babies.
I just took OB and Peds last semester since I’m in an accelerated LPN program and I failed because it’s so hard. I got a little discouraged because I really want to work in labor and delivery or pediatrics but I won’t give up. I get to retake it at least at my college. But I dealt with a lot of kids at my last clinical rotation at a children’s hospital where I live and your so right everything is totally different dealing with kids
I loved my pediatric rotation in school! The med surg was a little sad though, because you see the parents fighting over custody, and families crumbling due to long term illnesses and the stress that comes with it. Breaks my heart. I think pediatric ER would be awesome
I’m a nurse at a pediatric clinic. My main thing I do is give vaccinations. I bought a Dr. Mcstuffins musical mic that I play before the shot and it’s a great distraction!! We also use something called a shot-block!
i’ve always been interested in health care but only recently have i discovered my ambition to become a paediatric nurse. thank you so much for the information, this makes me just want to become one more. i adore kids and i am so eager to be a nurse and look after people. i’m so excited to begin studying after high school
I'm new to pediatric nursing.I'm in the ED as well. One gadget I've come to love is the wee light for IVs. Finding veins in babies are tough so that wee light comes in handy every time
I initially went into nursing to do paeds but after watching a lot of videos like this about the reality.. I honestly don’t think I’d be able to manage it! Mad respect to paediatric nurses.. there seems so be so many more things to juggle and consider when trying to help the kid cooperate and not make it traumatising for them.
I’m only a 16 year old female and I’m a senior in high school right now. My class is 2021. I’ve always said I wanted to work as a nurse and I hope one day I will make it. The thought of thinking about it right now though scares me. I’m not even smart like that but I something in me wants to do this.
I’m a new grad RN and I’ve always had my sights set for peds but it was much harder to find a peds job right out of school. But I’m gonna do my two years in adults and then try again for peds
Yay!! I’ve been waiting on more pediatric videos. I’m going into my second semester of nursing and I know my heart is set on peds because of how complicated it can be!
I would really like a video on common disease processes seen, stress management while rendering emergency care, and cope/grief after traumatic calls (if you are comfortable and open to this). Some other videos i would really like is how you were able to market yourself from adult to pediatric nursing, and how you prepared for this transition. Love your videos and your perspective!
Wow I really loved this video! I’m entering into my second semester of nursing school, and I start with peds. Peds has always peaked my interest, especially pedi ER. So it’s nice to hear prospective from someone who actually does it. :)
Thank you so much for this!! I’m looking into studying for pediatric nurse. I have 2 children myself. It’s something I always wanted to do. This helps so much 💜
I’ve been following you from the beginning of your TH-cam channel!! I am now a man RN 8months on a cardiac unit I do want to be in the ER eventually though that’s my goal! Your inspirational
In love with your channel! I'm currently taking certain prerequisites to enter into the nursing program and I know my passion is to go into pediatrics, but for some reason I still wasn't too sure. But I'm so happy that I came across your page because you made me fall in love with the speciality even more! Thanks so much and keep the videos coming :)
I just got into nursing my orientation is at the end of this month 🙂 I just thank god cause it took me a while to get here and being a single mom but I just been watching videos and came across yours.
Hello! AalexisNicole 😍 I've been your subscriber since my quilafying exam at nursing school. Now I'm level 2 student of BSN,and we're having our final exam today for pediatric nursing. May you notice me. From here at the Philippines! 🇵🇭❤️❤️
Yess id love to hear you discuss the disease processes for peds. I went from an adult only ER that had a separate children’s ER that I never stepped foot into to now a community hospital where we see a few kids. I feel like I know nothing about peds lol. Love your videos ❤️
Great video! I feel like it helped me a lot thank you ! I loved that you added ideas for having children be more likely to be receptive to you, very creative! If you have more ideas please share them 🙏🏼 I care so much for children and would try anything to make sure their stay is a less traumatizing experience
can you please make a video on the differences between an ER nurse and ICU nurse. i love your channel, i start my nursing program in a couple of weeks and these videos have been helping me get prepared
Wow, I just rewatched your previous video a couple days ago about pediatric nursing for the third time because I am about to start my senior internship in the pediatric ER! I’m so excited and glad you posted more info!
I love your videos. I discovered you going into nursing school and now i’m one semester way from graduating. It would be awesome if you made a video on your life in Texas as a nurse or on your days off. I currently live in NYC and i’m thinking about moving and would love to know how day to day life can be💛💛
I was more curious about the medical equipment than anything. And I’m still a calm patient as long as I have something to read or have cutesy anime on.
I'm on my way to becoming a future peds nurse 2024 is MY year! yayyy! even though i have been working in peds for almost 4 years already! so some things is already a breeze.
Thank you for this video, it was so informative! I think it's great that you are so understanding about the parents and their concerns, and even fears in the ER. I am a mother of five and I'm definitely one of those parents who asks a lot of questions, so thank you for bringing awareness and spreading the compassion!
I'm finishing up my pediatric rotation this semester and ooooooh my goodness, my empathy button gets pressed very hard! I am like a ball of emotions on the inside 😅😅
This is exactly what I was looking for!! Yes I would love to see/hear about dz processes and treatments for each, as well as what to teach parents upon discharge... I have been adult er rn for 30 yrs and have just moved to Peds er 3 wks ago... VERY DIFFERENT!!! I find myself very anxious about the fact I don’t know what to anticipate next... I know it will come in time but I want to feel more comfortable more sooner than later... especially w/ SICK kids... so with all of that I say thank you for any of it you want to do cause it will help me!!! You may have some already on here so I’m going to look further!
I work in an ER where we see both adults and peds so this video was definitely helpful! I will definitely use some of these tips because I’m only 2 years in but still feel like kids can be a challenge lol

Nice ! Can i ask you How do I qualify myself for that? Although I am a high school student, I hope so, but I do not know where to start.
