Why should seniors be facing homelessness when we are looking at CEO salaries in the 10s of millions. The wealth divide is growing and growing. It is disgusting.

Those making arrogant remarks years ago that we should've worked harder longer when young, had better jobs, are silent now. It's nearly everyone struggling today. Home & amenities is not just for those rich, and should be for everyone who worked.

Makes sense because the elderly are one of the more vulnerable in our society...easy to take totally advantage of them.

I have been living off-grid for 13 years. Freedom is a mindset that does not fit the lifestyle of most people. It's ok if they prefer to live in a philosophical rhetorical sense of freedom. Continue to enjoy yourself!!
We can't take anything with us. Only the memories. Continue to make them in the best way you know how.

Thousands of seniors retirees had have moved to Mexico to make ends meet, because here
they can not afford a single apartment, groceries and a good transportation. And those brave ones that stay in USA many are homeless or living in their cars, that is the reality with this
kind of social security, which the government sucks or milk almost dry

Reality is most Boomers only receive around $1100 a month in Social security or less. The list goes on...Cut or no pensions. Bad investments. No savings. Loss of a spouse and their income. Gray divorce, upkeep costs on homes, raised property taxes, car and home insurance, and utilities. Inflation that keeps ballooning, healthcare premium costs on the rise. Family is little to none. 3 years or more waiting list for HUD housing. I retire in 2 years. One question, How do you get your mail? Thank you.

I am so grateful that I live in a place where the cost of living is low and I can still afford the taxes. I am crippled and poor and well aware of how lucky I am with a small house, lots of land and 2 big dogs and a very spoiled cat. I am fearful of being homeless and old people living on the streets or in their cars is a crime.

We live in a country with a pathetic system for elderly people. We really do. Cost of living and healthcare are really limited and terribly expensive. Ridiculous and not very good for older seniors who are vulnerable and needy of more care when not covered by insurance ! So many are being forced into homelessness now as greedy landlords raise rents mercilessly on fixed income seniors !!! - - - There is an option of moving to S E Asia to a country with very low costs of living. Many are living in the Philippines on small budgets with a roof over their heads and enough food to eat. Thailand Vietnam & Cambodia are also options and very cheap. Essentials as low as $600/mo. can be had in some areas and much more comfortable than a tent or a van ! Certainly the more the better and $1000 -- $1200 is more comfortable. But they are not homeless ? Rents from $50 - $200 are easily obtained. The public transportation is cheap and an expensive car isn't needed ! > Half of all Americans now have a passport for a reason. ---?---

I go from being in awe at this beautiful and amazing opportunity to live like this, to terrified.
Unfortunately, the Supreme Court has given the ok to imprison people who are homeless. If you have housing, please start letting our voices be heard before you are homeless, too. Dont wait!
Living like this is not all roses. It is hard.

Natural disasters are increasing worldwide displacing millions. I believe it will get worse. People who have always been secure could be surprised like the people in North Carolina. I do have a van and SUV and you are convincing me to get ready. Camping equipment is a must. Even elderly in subsidized housing need to be aware. Those who manage these properties can be ruthless and heartless and evict for the least things. You are a very creative person.

I lived in my truck for a year, then a couple years later another 6 months in my mini van. I saved a LOT of money doing this. With this inflation I've lost everything I saved plus some. Prices (in my area) are starting to go down a bit. That is until January. Higher that before. I've been stocking up on foods that keep. Rice, tuna and freeze dried potatoes ect. Life is scary right now. Come this January I'm going to be afraid to leave my reservation, for fear of getting deported. I'm Native American but my skin is the same color as a Hispanic. I really want to run to the mountains and HIDE

I’ve been living in alternative housing for 6 years. One year in a Jeep Liberty saving to buy a cargo trailer to convert to sleep in. 5 years in the cargo trailer. I’m a senior. I’m 100% disabled thru the Veterans Administration. This year I will also get my social security and a union pension. It’ll be about 8k a month altogether. I might upgrade to a class A or travel trailer but I love my cargo trailer conversion. If anything breaks on the cargo trailer I can fix it from Home Depot or harbor freight. Have a great day. I will not pay a rent or mortgage again. I have savings in the bank living this way.

Twenty years ago my neighborhood was a working class area with lots of affordable housing. Now long time renters are unable to afford even a basic studio. It's very sad. Some wind up moving to areas with poor transportation, few affordable stores, few service providers for health needs. My city gives tax help for low income home owners . That started in the 1980s when "gentrification" sent property prices and taxes skyrocketing forcing fixed income seniors to sell their homes!

There is a condition called Diogenes syndrome, characterized by elders refusing help to maintain basic standards of living. As was pointed out here, it is the desire for independence gone awry....
I moved into an apartment in california recently, wasnt told there was a squater on the other side of the wall, turns out its an 80+ yr old woman living in a storage closet with no power no water no insulation, and a large german shepherd chained up all day....numerous agencies support her to stay in this situation because its her choice, delusions of dignity...its very sad, she deserves better. Good example of Diogenes syndrome.

I usually put milk and artificial sweetner on my grits. It's really good and is similar to cream of wheat. A lot of us older folks know what cream of wheat is because our moms used to fix it for breakfast back in the good old days. Today, they just eat McDonald's or a bowl of cereal because it's more convenient.

Dollar devaluation causes cost to double every 12-13 years, retirees need to double their income every 12 years to maintain the same lifestyle. I was lucky and lived as a minimalist and saved, I earn more income than I spend so i reinvest and grow income during retirement. Not everybody can do that.

Luv you too, Lee. Your attitude is quite infectious. I am a full time caregiver but I only get paid for maybe four hours a day. I care for a family member so I am welcome to volunteer the rest of my time for free I guess. Don't misunderstand my loyalties but it is difficult to live without compensation. When they pass I will become "homeless" due to the regs here in CA. No, I did not know that going into this job but such is life. If I work elsewhere I will have to pay for the 24/7 care here so I find myself in a catch 22. So I'm outfitting my Sequoia, praying it keeps on truckin', and preparing to join the unhoused masses. Thanks for taking some of the panic out of it, I truly appreciate your upbeat inspirations and sharing some tea!

I noticed in your last video, you have a pen that can punch out a window if needed. Did you know that some of the newer cars and vans have only one window that can be punched out? Most side windows and front are made of laminated glass that can only be removed by sawing it out with a special tool. The back window is usually the only window made of tempered glass, that can be punched out with that tool you mentioned.

Aloha from Hawaii! You’ve got a lot of spunk, Lee. How did you deal with your family when you made the decision to live in your van full time? I think my 4 grown adult kids would be okay with it, if I chose the van life route. So long as I have the financial means to help sustain myself. I’ve been a long time single mom as well, and I’ve also had to put my life on hold to take care of my aging mother (she passed in 2021 unfortunately 😢), and also helped out with my grandkids. I’ve been working paying in to SS since I was a teenager. And, I just turned 61 at the end of November. So, I’m seriously thinking of either going the van life route, the tiny home route or relocate out of the country where the USD goes farther. Safe travels Lee. And Mele Kalikimaka (Merry Christmas in Hawaiian)!💚🎄💚

I retired five years ago. (62.) lived in Massachusetts. Very expensive. I did my own investigation on TH-cam. Cheap rent in USA. Moved to Carbondale, Illinois. Home of Southern Illinois University. Part of Little Egypt. Near Giant City State Park. Part of Shawnee National Forest. Rent is between $450 to $700.00 a month. I’m paying $650.00 for 1100 square feet. Many shopping centers and places to visit. Weather isn’t bad. It’s Christmas Eve. 50 degrees. Lived here 3 years. No problems. Good place to retire. 🚫🤡🏆

Seniors costs should be fixed at time of retirement. Example: hamburger was .99 lb day of retirement.
So for rest of life hamburger cost them .99 lb.
And yes, millionaires pay $20.00 lb to offset the cost of producers. (Not perfect, but something along those lines).

You are doing great. The judgment people just don't know. I had 5 children and when the last one hit all day kindergarten I went back to work and worked long hours. I just make $1208 a month in SS. Every time I save money someone would need help and I would give. No regrets. I don't feel poor. I'm happy. I will be living in my van very soon. I'm excited. You look wonderful. Also I just have to say...what is it with people who don't know how or just can't think of how, to take care of their body functions without a toilet??? Geez! I'm 72. I can pee in a cup without a problem and as long as I have a container with a plastic bag I'm good to go with the other. Simple. Geez! Actually all this is funny.
