looking into restoring an old mail-away figure (camshaft) who's also in rough shape, this video helped me understand what i needed todo soo much thank you ;>
Now i'm tempted to send you my "Red Alert" to do the same fixing! poor toy is 40 years old and my first ever Transformer and he is almost in the same state as yours was!
Thanks Dave! I was really surprised with that floor finish on that chrome. I really liked the Green Stuff World chrome. I sprays much better than the Molotow.
Hi - I’m looking at repainting some old G1 transformers - would you suggest not having primer when airbrushing? I’m changing colours on a Galvatron so he’s movie colours and updating a Shackwave- love the videos keep making them please!
Hi! I rarely ever use a primer on the bots b/c of the tolerances of the transforming parts. If a primer and paint go on too thick, some parts may get scratched up when transformed. I usually put on a nice thin coat then use a good clear topcoat. If I feel that would still interfere w/ the tolerances, like the chrome feet on Red Alert, I'll adjust the part to compensate if possible. Good idea on the re-color on Galvatron and Shackwave! I'll hopefully start making new videos soon... stay tuned. :)
Amazing work! Although I'm sure it would be a more extensive restoration, I'd love to see your attempt at a G1 Jetfire. That's one of the more complicated bots I haven't had the confidence to tackle yet.
Hi Brian, thanks for the watch and comment! I would really like to do a G1 Jetfire one day. I don't have the funds for that right now, but I am open to doing repair work for others if they'd like to send in a broken bot... :) ;)
No, not necessarily. A black base under the chrome will give it a slight difference in value and some modelers prefer that. In this instance that step wasn't necessary to resemble the original chrome and I also didn't want to put more paint underneath the chrome b/c of tolerance issues.
Very nice! The part of fixing the spoiler is great!
Thanks! That plastic styrene really comes in handy... :)
Thanks for restoring a great figure! Just found your channel and between this and the Jetfire projects you earned my subscription.
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoy the restorations and thank you for the sub! :)
Nice job on this mate! I'm amazed at how nicely the windscreen and windows came out with the toothpaste and polish.
Thanks! 👍
These videos are so well done!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed them... :)

Wonderful! My favorite Autobot looks great!
Thanks! It was a fun project... :)
I use that floor finish to tighten loose joints on my RockLords and GoBots. Great vid, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the watch and comment! Yes, it has many uses, but I was very surprised how it handled the chrome paint. :)

Outstanding restoration Mike!! Love the use of the floor finish on the chrome. What do you think of Green Stuff World?
Thanks Dave! I was really surprised with that floor finish on that chrome. I really liked the Green Stuff World chrome. I sprays much better than the Molotow.

Does the toothpaste cleaning works similar to the baking soda method for fixing scratches in things like glasses?
In hindsight, I wouldn't use the toothpaste method, it worked okay, but not as good as a clear plastic scratch remover like Meguiar's.
Isn’t that chrome paint supposed to be used on a gloss black base?
No, not necessarily. A black base under the chrome will give it a slight difference in value and some modelers prefer that. In this instance that step wasn't necessary to resemble the original chrome and I also didn't want to put more paint underneath the chrome b/c of tolerance issues.
I should send you mine
Thanks! I do commission work... send me an email if interested. :)

Man I hate to armchair you, but you should have retro-brited the spoiler and vacuformed ALL the chrome!
I didn't bother w/ the retro-brightening w/ the spoiler b/c of the repair and I don't have the equipment needed to vacuform chrome. :)
Can you guy's restore my g1 metroplex 😄
