    I started doing this when I speak in certain situations. I am getting into voice over work and found doing this while speaking also gives my vocal chords the ability to speak much longer without feeling as much fatigue.

    • @henryfrater
      @henryfrater  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Absolutely, accessing your nasal space alleviates some of the stress off of your vocal folds!
      If you do lip roll exercises, you will strengthen your vocal folds over time so you wont need to rely on this nasal resonance so much, which may be something you'll want to consider if you want to maintain strong chesty vocals for long periods at a time!

  • @soundseeker63

    I love that "head buzzing" sensation, it's quite pleasant. Didn't know resonance was what it was though...just thought it felt good to sing. Or at least it did, before my voice got wecked by LPR and polyps 😒 Still, I'll know I'm back on track when I get that warm buzzing sensation again. And if it sounds better thats a bonus!

      It absolutely can! The best exercise I have found to help explore your resonance with the spoken word is to 'Read A Book Out Loud'.
      Literally, grab any book (it really doesn't matter about the content) and whilst speaking out loud, focus on where you place the resonance. Try talking with your resonance in your throat, then try talking with your resonance accentuated behind the nose! This exercise helped me to take control of spoken voice and it can help you too 🙂

      Haha, that's the best way!! 😂
      You can use the "Ng" sound, as I'm the word "suNG". This is good for activating the nasal resonance and then you can experiment with how much nasal resonance you use in your singing! 😁

    Why do they need activated? They gone in the night?

    • @henryfrater
      @henryfrater  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Overnight, your sinuses become somewhat dehydrated. What were doing when we're "activating" the sinus space is twofold.
      1. By forcing more of our sound waves around up there, we are EVER SO SLIGHTLY stretching/expanding the nasal space.
      2. We are re-engaging the circulation of moisture in our sinuses.

      You can practice a bunch of nasal exercises, or maybe your 'soft palate' is getting in the way and not allowing your sounds to get up into your nasal space!
      I have a video on 'The Soft Palate' in my vocal collection video series if you need more info on how that works :)

    • @henryfrater
      @henryfrater  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Hey there mate, hopefully I can help!!
      If you're just starting out, I would predict there is a strong chance that the current strength of your 'vocal folds' will be the aspect of your voice that will require the most immediate attention, and this would be a great place to start.
      We use our vocal folds to fine tune the air we release from our lungs into sound, so it's a really important muscle to strengthen, especially if you want to sing loudly and for long periods of time!
      There is a simple exercise called 'lip-rolling' which is great for beginning to strengthen your vocal folds, additionally, I have a video coming out this week about using straws which is a VERY efficient exercise for strengthening the vocal folds, so look out for that!
      If you aren't sure what the vocal folds are, I have a quick video on my channel that demonstrates what they are and how they work 🙂
      Let me know how you get on!!!

      You seem to lean toward a more throat dominant resonance, which isn't a problem, as long as it feels comfortable for you and you like how it sounds :)

    Someone told me that it was wrong for my nose to vibrate when I sing. It has affected my singing and I haven't been able to get the sound I want because I was trying to avoid the vibrations.

    • @marcelbureau2753
      @marcelbureau2753 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Whoever told you that singing in the nose was wrong was absolutely RIGHT! The nose is the « false » mask and « placing » the voice there is bad. The true mask is the forehead and you do not place the voice there it simply goes there when the tongue, the larynx and everything else are in the right position. The only split second something goes in the nose is to pronounce the consonants N, M and GN. Otherwise you can plug your nose and it should not affect your singing. Singing in the nose mutes your voice and does not allow the chest voice blossom.

      @@marcelbureau2753 Thank you very much 🤗

    • @henryfrater

      Hold fire on the comment above. They are speaking the truth, but if you're new to this and you aren't able to access your nasal resonance, you'll struggle immensely to discover how you can use the mask to it's full capability.
      For now, you should feel your nose vibrate, especially at the back of it. If you are new so utilising the nasal space, you may feel some very strong sensations at the front too of your nose.
      It's great to hear your exploring your voice, I'd love to hear how you get on!! Check back in with me sometime? I'd be happy to give you further advice!

    • @marcelbureau2753
      @marcelbureau2753 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Here is an example of the placement in the nose: th-cam.com/video/ZIbgZp8d_Is/w-d-xo.htmlsi=4a2zFPcMJVNnJzyK. It does not matter whether you sing classical or pop it illustrates clearly the sound that you get with this placement. It may seem like a good projection but it is not. The voice is not free. It is pushed, pressed, constricted and squeaky. In order to place the voice in the nose you have to sing with a high larynx which is never good. M. Jaroussky seems to love this voice projection and never makes any comment about it. This student has an excellent potential but his vocal technique should be completely rebuilt from scratch. I will let you judge by yourself if this is the kind of sound you want.

    • @henryfrater
      @henryfrater  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You do not need to raise your larynx to create nasal resonance my friend.
      There are other things we do to engage with the benefits of nasal resonance whilst still maintaing the lush tonal quality, such as soft palate retraction and correct airflow.
      You may not like how the nasal resonance sounds, but a notable amount of contemporary vocalists use it, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars, Christina Aguilera. It's a creative preference which is something everyone should bare in mind and make up their own minds on.

      @@henryfrater Thanks sir, yes definitely.
      For sure thanks for that encouragement.
      For sure, it's interesting how some will like something vs not like something. How our bodies might enjoy something vs something it potentially has to be taught to like so that our souls and body match.
      Thanks for sure it been interesting to me to see how my untrained voice and throat currently reacts to things I try to find thanks to your trained voice and others trained voices. I know people say not to copy and clearly I can't copy everything nor do I want to copy everything certain people do, but it's just for fun sometimes to see what works and what doesn't, what feels good and what doesn't, how the "throat" reacts to certain things and to other things there is no reaction.
