It's a Hammond B3 organ. Jon Lord fed it through a Marshall guitar amp with Lesley rotating speakers to be able to keep up with Ritchie Blackmore's overwhelming guitar sound. And he did well, didn't he? Jon Lord can be and is considered one of the best organ players that ever lived. The speed at which he played, the prowess he's shown, the melodies he's produced. Magic, pure and simple. And you've witnessed it. Isn't that magic all by itsself? Greetings and well-wishes from Belgium.

Jon Lord deserves your accolades. I also think that Jimmy Greenspoon of Three Dog Night is not given enough recognition as an excellent keyboard artist. He rocked the Hammond B3 too!

Add in Peter Bardens of Camel and Dave Sinclair of Caravan. There were a lot of great keyboard players in that era

Love this song. It like the band said, "Let's have a jam session, everybody gets a solo, and we throw some lyrics in and call it song."

Deep Purple, in my opinion, have no equal. They are musicians' musicians... if that makes sense. 💜

I'ld like to quote my mother: "The young guys today don't play music like that anymore! that's sad!!!" ... She is turning 68 this years and still hears Deep Purple until today! It's her music and she went to several concerts of this band in her youth. Because of her I got into Deep Purple as i had (!) to listen to this kind of music as a kid! I am very thankful for that ... imagine me as a 6 year old and instead of reading some books to, she just put on the record player with "Deep Purple - In Rock" playing, gave me a kiss and put on some head-phones on my ears! ^^+gg I am thankful for that! XD

It is a Hammond C-3 Organ played through a Marshall guitar amplifier. Jon Lord calls it The Beast. Jon wanted his organ to sound like Ritchie Blackmore's guitar.
Jon has switch to transfer from the Marshall amp to the Leslie amp. On this song, you can really appreciate Roger Glover's bass skills. This is from a 1972 concert in Copenhagen.

By the way, the footage (and sound recording) is from a 1972 gig in Copenhagen. The concert was released on a double LP/CD called "Scandinavian Nights". Jon Lord (organ) wasn't at his best here, nor was Ritchie Blackmore (guitar) but any concert from that time period should be cherished. I myself consider both Deep Purple MKI and MKII as the best hard rock ever played. We all should be glad footage and sound recordings exists so that we can all witness the greatness of this band.

The Leslie is not an amp. It’s an effect really spinning speakers large and small causing a chorus like effect. Jon lords amp was a Marshall guitar amp.

A perfect example of DP Mk.2's sense of fun. They were all friends then. Something went wrong later that year and into the next. The sound here's been improved no end. On the original video, the vocals were too high in the mix. Good point about DP's instrumental talent - and Ian Gillan was equal to the others.
