Today's October 28 and the M4 Macs will be launching in a few hours, am looking to get a M4 Max 14-inch 48GB/1TB.. Also, I just realized you have only 103 subs!? Absolute criminal. Should have atleast 150K for this quality of content, earned yourself a sub. EDIT: Just realized, kudos for adding time markers too.. Just one tip, you can try to just make the background a little more clean, and maybe screen record the macs, to get better POVs
Nice comparison. The adverse physiological effects of the high frequency fan noise of the 14 inch M3 Max cannot be underestimated. I suppose creatives who do video editing might opt for the M3 Max in the 14 inch form factor despite the compromises that were cited in this video in order to have access to the dual video encoders and decoders. For me, it would be 16 inch or bust when considering a system with an Max chip.
Excellent video! It’s difficult to find tests directly comparison 14” and 16” MacBooks that focuses on performance and not just screen size & battery life, it kinda bugs me when people say performance is totally the same across sizes when it isn’t.
12:06 That is not thermal throttling. The P-cores don't run at their maximum frequency when doing muti core tests. It's a normal behavior of chips in general regardless of thermal headroom.
Do you know the clock speeds of GPUs in the M3 line up? There doesn't seem to be any info online. For comparison the M1 Pro GPU was 1.3ghz and the M2 pro was 1.4ghz
You are getting a more portable and svelte MacBook with the 14-inch at the cost of extra heat and some performance for the lower price compared to the 16-inch. Fortunately, I think most people understood this and picked accordingly. I was used to lugging around a 2011 17-inch MacBook Pro that weighed 6.6 pounds. So the 16-inch for me was more portable for me plus maximum cooling and performance.
@@samuelkuro I've decided to buy 16 inch m3 max with better cooling system because I play some games + 3d modeling and I had that throtling issues with my m1 pro 14 inch.
If you strictly want to go for the 4k 60fps, I would reccomend the unbinned version. For 1440p gaming the binned verison will do just fine. I'm currently rocking the M3 MAX binned 16 inch and it handles everything fine until you surpass 1440p.
Depends. If you do heavy gaming for example for hours and hours, sooner or later it will throttle. I haven't compared the M4 Chips so I can't guarantee you how much or little it might throttle. The MAX chip however will perform always better because it has a higher baseline spec. If you can spend the money and need to go for the MAX. If not the PRO chip will also make you very happy.
Silver looks better than Space Black to me. I am forced to get the M3 Max 30 Core because my recent ideal spec (18 core 36gb Ram 1TB 14inch) has 2 stuck pixels and I JUST bought this.....I buy certified refurbish so I am sad I have to upgrade and pay $400 difference. This video helped but I do not need all this to video edit and photoshop with chrome tabs open.
Test after fully heat saturated if your 16 inch will have better performance charging via magsafe. The 140w power adapter only negotiates 94w via USB-C. You are probably on the verge of power throttling. I have a m2 max with 32 core GPU and ir will start dropping the Battery if I run baldur's gate 3 for a long period of time. Its bad for the battery to operate at such high temperature in the least and it could potentially affect performance too. I bought a usb-c cable with a power display and it runs pegged at 94w and I havend enabled high power mode on this one. My previos M1 pro would run fine with 94W.
That's a very interesting test. I use a little app regarding charging limits and temperature control. It's called "AlDente". I just can't test it anymore because I sent one of them back already.
Yes and no! I would say don't buy a 14" with the MAX chip if you want to get your money worth. The 14" with the PRO chip is definitly still a powerhouse and very much worth it if you strictly want a small macbook. The MAX chips definitly need proper cooling to perform consitantly with its power.
Samuel Kuro, thank you for an interesting & straightforward overview of the new Macbook Pros.

Thank you for your words and tip! Have you picked up the M4 Max yet?
@samuelkuro Not yet, apple says delivery by 16th November, although I feel like it will arrive earlier.. Also picked the nano texture option😀
Man same dilemma here; 14" vs 16" - binned or not M4 Max
Dude, thank you so much for doing this test. Its really informative.
Glad it helped you out!
This helped me so much, dude. THANK YOU
I'm glad the video helped you out! :)
Thank you for this test! It was fun to see your conclusion changing in real time with the high power mode progressively kicking in.

This same test but with the 36GB M4 Max would be gold. Probably similar results. Will certainly go for the big boy. 16" rules.
Thank you, really really thank you. I've almost bought that one but after this video I've changed my mind))
Great! :) Which model are you going for now?
@@samuelkuro Redmi G 2021 Ryzen Edition with 64GbRam/2TB SSD. I wanted to try Apple but decided to remain on my current configuration
I have the 14” 14/30 36, and I’m very happy with it - glad I didn’t go for the 16/40.
Same here, the 14” 14/30 is more then enough. We don't always need the max out of the maximum.

Thank you, that was a good, honest review
Спасибо, очень полезно. Зарядка MagSafe для обоих в будущих тестах была бы кстати думаю

Nicely explained! Coming from a 17-inch the 14-inch would have been like the iPad mini for you :D
Thank you! You just saved my money
Great! Did you end up buying a MacBook or something else?
@@samuelkuro I've decided to buy 16 inch m3 max with better cooling system because I play some games + 3d modeling and I had that throtling issues with my m1 pro 14 inch.
Thanks!
14inch is de right size for mobility but still has more room for good hardware & specs.
16 inch binned or unbinned version for M4 Max to game Death Stranding, RE Remake series, MGS4 via PS3 emulation in 1080p 120fps and 4K 60fps?

What was the room temperature during the tests?
Between 21-22 degrees celsius

so basically 14" is shit
