By cloud computing, I mean the virtual CPUs, GPUs, and other services offered by Google, AWS ect. Hi! I've got a question: I'm a really basic user for laptops, and after dozens of reviews about chromebooks I finally understand they would workout for me. The question is: chromebooks like the Hp pro 640 (8 Gb RAM, Intel core i5), or the HP x360 (8Gb RAM, Intel Core i3) could handle 25-30 tabs open at the same time in google chrome? Is the chromebook gonna get a lot of lag? Thank you for your help!
I use my Chromebook for 93% of my work and love it, but then there's Photoshop. Sigh. I do graphic design work as a part of my side hustle and Photoshop is a must. Maybe someday, Adobe will work something out. Until then, I'll need two devices - one that I use everyday and one that just sits there gathering dust until I have to do some graphic work.
Exactly, don’t buy a Chromebook and think it will work like another computer. Learn how to do what you want on the new device. Chromebooks can do anything, you just need to learn how.
Long story short : 1°) watch videos : use Plex and sync films you want to watch offline. 2°) Crostini is your friend if Android or Web Apps don't suit you :) 3°) the main idea you have to keep in mind should be "what task I want to achieve" and not "what tool I'm used to use". It's the same idea if you use a Windows PC, a Gnu/Linux PC, a Chromebook, a Mac. Tools will differe but usages will be the same. 4°) If you use a specific software which is available only on one of those platforms and can't be replaced (work specific software only available on a certain platform), definitely you should keep that platform.
Yes and no. You need a google account (i.e. Gmail account) which is free but also need internet access to use it since it's a web based system. How's the wifi in your neighborhood coffee shop?
I remember getting a Chromebook like 8-9 Years ago. Back then it could not use word. So i put it in the back of my closet because i couldnt use it for what i intended it to. After 8-9 Years without power the battery is obviously dead, but still Works when the power plug is in. To my amazement, from not being turned on, it can be turned on (logged on through guest login.) and ready to browse in less than 13 seconds. Like turns Up in like 10 secs. That is crazy for a 8-9 Years Old computer.
Best bit about Chromebooks is the security. Every job is in a separate sandbox unlike PCs. Best tip I had was to close down every time. Don't just close the lid as you would on Windows PC cos it takes so long to close and open. Chromebooks close and open in a few seconds and every time you open it checks for bugs and upgrades in the background. Last thing is the ease of use having a keyboard, pad and touchscreen on the same machine. You never knew you wanted it till you tried it
Great video!!! Very good discussion of the strengths and weaknesses of Chromebooks. I believe that someday Chromebooks will be able to do these high end tasks, but for now, I agree with you, do not try to put a square peg in a round hole. I enjoy my Chromebook very much!!! Have a great day, Sir!!!
I realize this video was put out in 2018 and today it's 2022. But, I am on a Lenovo Flex 5 Chromebook and I have a pretty nice Linux based video editor called Olive.. It's at least as good as my Adobe Premier Elements on my Windows 10 PC and actually has a few more advanced features that Adobe Premier Elements does not support. I also have a Linux version of Gimp installed which is rather a nice open source video editor that does a whole lot more than just the basics.
Apparently you can easily add photo editing apps to a Chromebook. It works fine if you have a chromebook that is a bit more expensive. Remember they run all way up to >$1000
I personally don't understand why anyone would get a Chromebook that's so expensive when you can easily get a traditional laptop at that price that out performs it. I spent less than $90 on my 11" Lenovo Chromebook just to have something for basic tasks at work. For everything else, I use my Ryzen 9, 16GB, RTX 3060 Asus Zephyrus G14 that was around $1,300.
The ability to work off line and never upload later... working desktop based is very important to me. Is Chrome even worth looking at for me? That's what I'm looking to find out. This vid is one of the closer to covering that, that I can find...
Why is the print on your t-shirt backwards? Did you run this reversed through some kind of video editing software or is the t-shirt or organization being clever or what? Pretty distracting.

I'd really like to give ChromeOS a go, not exactly a huge fan of windows on laptops. I use Chrome a lot, however, for my job I use a lot of specific software applications for various laboratory tools that only have windows versions.
1. ChromeOS is lightweight OS, so similar performance requires less power. Hence SILENT machine with long battery life is mostly sufficient. Chromebooks are not I think much diffferent physically from PCs. 2. So many apps are web based, and Chromebook is made for those. There is a web version of Autocad, for example. 3. Runs Android apps, so you can use same apps on Chromebook as on Android phones/tablets. Great for mapping/navigation. 4. You can have very high powered Chromebooks, but then perhaps a Windows machine is more flexible. 5. They are (mostly) ruggedised for education environment. That's a good thing. I bought a Chromebook 3 years ago. it largely replaced my windows machine, it is just easier for most things. Now I have access to a Windows machine I can use when needed. Mostly life is just simpler with the Chromebook and my android devices. I upgraded to a newer Chromebook recently, more memory, 3: 2 touch screen, but those were not pressing needs.
I did have a chromebook an Acer one with a hard drive (not ssd) and a 11in non touch screen. I gave it to my father in the end just too limiting for me. However, they do serve a purpose and for many people who are not techies like me, they will more than suffice!
Why is your video software mirror reversing your vodcast? I've got a MacBook Pro M1 Pro and wouldn't call 10hr battery life "insane". However I am buying a Lenovo Chromebook Duet 3 as a cheap light Tablet w keyboard.
I been using google since 2005 and I just want to ask which brand of chromebook I have to buy, such lenovo or asus , please help what is the best one. Thank you👍
There's also the thing where you actually have two stores on chrome os: the chrome web store, and the app store for the same application, for ex: TH-cam.

I have an iPhone and my son sends me videos and snapshots of my grandson. It always asks me to log into my Google Account to view them. Question: Would opening these items be easier if I used my Chromebook vs. my iPhone or iPad?
I edit simple 720p videos with ease, play borderlands 2, office work, etc etc. all on the same chromebook. It's a bloody pentium with 4 gigs of ram. But it's a skylake based pentium, and ddr4, so it fights like a champ. That's the point of linux, utilizing hardware in a way that the bloated windows and Mac Os can't.
@Jonathan Bickel Either of those chromebooks are potentially what you would want. I personally use the x360, for the sake of 8gb ram as opposed to 4. There are some really useful web-based tools to do light editing, wevideo sounds like it could be useful for you. Soundtrap is good for slapping audio together(web-based), But once you install linux via crouton, you'll also have access to programs like flowblade, audacity, obs, kdenlive, and other video/audio editing software.
@Jonathan Bickel by all means get the pretty one, and the 8gb of ram will help ya out. That said, if it comes with something like an m3, then there's still a lot we can do in linux, but the i3 might be better.
i use chrome book for everything gaming,my channel, editing i had windows and looking back windows is well trash people say windows is for gaming but when i used it for gaming it was very glitchy and everytime i tried to make it stop it just got worse and windows computers are very break-able but i drop my chromebook more then i dropped my windows computer and its fine but my windows computer broke-both of them so i dont really like windows i like chromebook better but i dont like the limits on chromebooks but i think that thats less of a hasle then having a windows computer
Hey there. Great video on the Crome book. I am a book writer which I need a basic app-based machine for making kindle books for Amazon. I realize I cannot do hard-core editing but my iPad does that with Apple. Can I take a memory card such as an SDHC 128 GB or less, and use that to play media from camera and lets say, a voice recorder? Also, in my documents I create for kindle books, can I add photos from other apps or memory cards especially from my camera? I am planning on getting a basic model possibly tomorrow, of the Crome book, and need to know as many specks before I make the purchase. I also will be using something called Crome Vox, the text to speech application for the blind as I do have low vision and have trouble reading certain texts. In google slides, can I add personal videos and audio to my slides? I may be making a presentation from time to time for book writing workshops in the future when Covid lifts to the point we can feel safe for travel and have more events at local libraries. I know I’ve said a lot, but I need to know before purchasing. Thanks a lot for your great videos. Keep them coming.
I know everyone misses the video and photo editing software through Adobe but would it be possible to connect it somehow through the Linux system? I know you can run Steam apps through Linux so why not Adobe Premiere?
Wow, I'm shocked to see people still stuck in the dark, dark ages. Playstore apps turns most of your knocks against chromebooks straight on their head. And, I mean, are we also going to completely ignore what crouton can do?
Wrong. You're just plain, dead wrong. And it's that kind of thinking that will ruin the true linux experience. Linux runing natively is really cool, and useful, sure, but it's a long way from running the way that crouton does. Without going into the finer details, it's a debian container, and a lot is missing, and a lot simply will not run natively...not yet anyway.
We're getting very close to a unified experience where you'll have better experiences with local apps running (both Android and Linux) but it's still got a way to go to be stable and user friendly for the layperson. Definitely in exciting times!

I haven't tested the myself personally but they should work OK

More people need to see this video. I see people hate on chromebooks but I don't understand because really they aren't bad machines. They just didn't do their research of what chromebooks can and can't do.
yup
I think because the Chromebooks are cheap sometimes & people want to play games on their laptops which is a stupid reason to hate on something because of that

I use my Chromebook for 93% of my work and love it, but then there's Photoshop. Sigh. I do graphic design work as a part of my side hustle and Photoshop is a must. Maybe someday, Adobe will work something out. Until then, I'll need two devices - one that I use everyday and one that just sits there gathering dust until I have to do some graphic work.

I am considering buying a pixelbook go. Can it work well with Microsoft office? Such as PowerPoint, word, outlook etc.?
It uses the Android version so they are a little limited but it does work
They have a MS word type app, right?
You can use Google docs inside of Google Drive
Or the Microsoft Word Android app which is surprisingly good on the Chromebook
Exactly, don’t buy a Chromebook and think it will work like another computer. Learn how to do what you want on the new device. Chromebooks can do anything, you just need to learn how.
Would Chromebook work well with CorelDraw for designing t-shirts?

@@itGenius_ Okay -- thanks. Nice video.
Long story short :
1°) watch videos : use Plex and sync films you want to watch offline.
2°) Crostini is your friend if Android or Web Apps don't suit you :)
3°) the main idea you have to keep in mind should be "what task I want to achieve" and not "what tool I'm used to use".
What about PDF. How do you read and modify them?
Either Xodo or Kami are very good PDF apps that can be installed through the Chrome Web Store.
Plenty of good Chrome editors
I installed pdf it works perfectly on my chromebook
Once I buy a Chromebook am I going to have to pay any more to use it? Or , can I plug it in and start working?
Yes and no. You need a google account (i.e. Gmail account) which is free but also need internet access to use it since it's a web based system. How's the wifi in your neighborhood coffee shop?
The thing i hate about Chromebooks is
THEY HAVE NO FUCKING CAPSLOCK KEY WTFFFFFF

I remember getting a Chromebook like 8-9 Years ago. Back then it could not use word. So i put it in the back of my closet because i couldnt use it for what i intended it to.
After 8-9 Years without power the battery is obviously dead, but still Works when the power plug is in.
To my amazement, from not being turned on, it can be turned on (logged on through guest login.) and ready to browse in less than 13 seconds.
Like turns Up in like 10 secs.
That is crazy for a 8-9 Years Old computer.

Hi Pete, I was wondering if a HP Chromebook 11a recently launched in India could work for a heavy studying kind of thing for students .
most chromebooks are fine for study unless you want to open 10+ tabs at a time
Best bit about Chromebooks is the security.
You never knew you wanted it till you tried it
Will never go back to a machine without touchscreen
Can I do online GED classes on a Chromebook? I didn't know what a Chromebook was before I ordered one on eBay for like $65. I assumed it had windows.

Thanks for sharing... As less and less is done on the desktop and more is done in the web - devices like Chromebooks will make much more sense
I also have a Linux version of Gimp installed which is rather a nice open source video editor that does a whole lot more than just the basics.
yes its come a long way!!!

I'd really like to give ChromeOS a go, not exactly a huge fan of windows on laptops. I use Chrome a lot, however, for my job I use a lot of specific software applications for various laboratory tools that only have windows versions.
Try out neverware and you can test ChromeOS via a boot USB before committing!

Either of those chromebooks are potentially what you would want. I personally use the x360, for the sake of 8gb ram as opposed to 4.
There are some really useful web-based tools to do light editing, wevideo sounds like it could be useful for you. Soundtrap is good for slapping audio together(web-based),
But once you install linux via crouton, you'll also have access to programs like flowblade, audacity, obs, kdenlive, and other video/audio editing software.
@Jonathan Bickel by all means get the pretty one, and the 8gb of ram will help ya out. That said, if it comes with something like an m3, then there's still a lot we can do in linux, but the i3 might be better.

We don't even need Cruton anymore, Chrome OS can directly install Linux apps not from version 69 thanks to Google Crostini Project.
