Fantastic footage - thank you for sharing it. Brings back happy memories of both Class 71's and also Dover Marine station. I attend the annual Remembrance Day service each year at the station, and often think of how it used to be with the Boat Trains. Back in the 1970's I worked on the Restaurant Car that was attached to the Night Ferry and was stabled overnight in the Marine station whilst awaiting the morning sleepers to be attached from Paris & Brussels. Again, thanks for sharing this clip.
I may be in the minority but it really annoys me the NRM are prepared to throw money at anything steam and yet won't do anything to get this unique Loco back on the mainline ...Yes it could only operate in the former Southern region and the few other 3rd rail areas but that was what it was designed for.
Couldn't agree more. Added to the fact that it had a pantograph allowing it to work in the yard at Hither Green where it was maintained along with the rest of the vlass

I've just realised I am watching this video on the 29th anniversary of the last scheduled service from Dover Western Docks.
Just wonderful
Grand old station never used to its full potential
Sadly it was then the potential left it

Lovely footage. Shame E5001 is not main line anymore.
Who owns E5001? She needs restoring so we can travel behind her today drawing power from NR third rail!
NRM own her
@@Isochest currently at Shildon. It could be brought back into service but only on 3rd rail system.
What are the locos
E5001...later class 71
Cracking little engines. 2,550 hp for one hour and 2,300hp continuously they were real "pocket rockets".
Yes all the SE Drivers liked them.
cheesh! that there civil itch to be dishing out G.B. pagentry
Great loco...awful horn.
Is that important?
It’s a whistle…
