WWOR-TV 9 | New Jersey Issues on South Park (March 31, 1998)

  • (NOTE: I don't hate South Park, but i find this controversy so interesting.)
This was reported from March 31, 1998 on WWOR-TV 9 affiliate at Secaucus, New Jersey back when UPN owns it and one day before the April Fools episode being shown that later became the first episode of the 2nd season.
People in New Jersey were complaining and somewhat offended about how the adult animated sitcom South Park affects on children and influenced of them how to do dangerous acts, especially to die young because of that controversial ''Kill Kenny'' game they played in one school that was based on a iconic gag where Kenny dies from the earlier seasons of the show following by ''Oh my god, they killed Kenny'' and ''You bastards!'' catchphrases from Stan and Kyle and racial slurs with adults and parents wanted this show to air on Comedy Central late at night while this series normally aired during prime-time with TV-MA rating and despite how popular this show is during adults and some teenagers... even a president of morality and media and the people who were not a fan of the show blames for it as well for stereotypes, and its humour that the children won't understand.
Even though South Park is not made for children, but people back in the 90s are harsh about it, just like how the critics of the 90s reacted to Beavis and Butt-Head and its humour.
South Park belongs to Comedy Central/Comedy Partners, Viacom and South Park Studios.

It is offensive because this show was made that way thanks to its brilliant creators, but the people who blames the show didn't need to say it out loud.

I don't know, this animated sitcom has already had its own problem from the very beginning just before ''Death'' came out which also learns about criticism, despite it tries out to be the next thing behind The Simpsons and Beavis and Butt-Head to get this show popular and recognisable.

What's Is South Park Is Not Adults And Aired Channels? :)

    • @BluetheFortune2006

If South Park isn't for adults... it may lose all of the language, adult humour and talking poops, especially Mr. Hankey. (which was one of the reasons that FOX normally didn't like to be added to animated sitcoms (adult or not) when Trey and Matt originally pitched the show to that network before they took it to Comedy Central.)

Now I wonder if other local news stations did any sort of story on South Park, back when it was still new.

I don't hate on South Park or any of the adult animated sitcoms (except for Family Guy, which is very controversial), but i just find this clip interesting to upload... and despite that it is a adult sitcom, i don't find it anything wrong... they just do whatever they want.

@BluetheFortune Yeah I believe South Park aired on many UPN,WB,FOX,MNT,CW and some independent stations from 2005-2015 Ik in my area where I used to live they aired South Park on stations KCAL 9 and KCOP 13 before I moved to Texas in 2018 I also used to watch on XETV 6 before that station ceased broadcasting in San Diego on May 2017

@BluetheFortune2006 No they did. They aired it when UPN9 renamed to My9. So they basically are hypocrites!!

"Clerks" is actually equal opportunity humor, because Dante and Randall are both unlikable, although the first sequel tamed it down a bit, but they're mostly just un-PC, rather than downright "Friends"-loving "Seinfeld"-hating mean. "South Park" is every Yankee's dream show. Now I think the anti-autistic episode is mean-spirited now. Now I think Issac Hayes hated it too.

Tribune sponsored this show for The WB 100+ stations group for their WGN feed. You know in edited reruns. The WB sponsored it all its (The WB's) years, even thought it's Comedy Central.
In retrospect, it doesn't really surprise me. I've lost my love for "South Park" because it does seem that Trey and Parker are indeed biased against certain groups, despite their supposed "Equal opportunity offender" claims. They had Jennifer Aniston guest star. The fact that "Friends" and this show seemed to cross paths, and they made fun of "Seinfeld," even though it was asshole Michael Richards (another "Friends"-loving defector against "Seinfeld'), is suspicious to say the least. See if they had poked fun at "Seinfeld" it would have been one thing. I have a neighbor who isn't the biggest fan of "Seinfeld" but he doesn't disrespect it. And they don't love "Friends." And they seem like the equal opportunity types. I'm not saying this lightly but that wouldn't bother me. 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 It's the fact Stone and Parker are friends with the "Friends" cast, especially Jennifer, who hates autistic people just like her fucking unpopular show, which means they're also bigots. So I think their anti-autistic and anti-tomboy and anti-broish gal (the last 2 being one of the bros) jokes do come off as bigotry in retrospect. No wonder "Clerks" still did better than "South Park" in many respects. "South Park" has just become bullshit to me ever since I found out Jennifer guest starred. It makes them mean-spirited.
If I want equal opportunity humor, I've got "Clerks" and Jay and Silent Bob franchise, as well as their cartoons. "South Park" just comes off as Allied, "Friends"-watching The WB/CBS-loving "Seinfeld"-hating bigoted in retrospect. Now I know why I've always steered clear of Comedy Central. For one, they've always been pro-"Friends" and anti-"Seinfeld." Two, they're the basic cable equivalent of CBS and The WB combined. They're not very popular. And it was just borne of HBO anyways. Comedy Central was borne of HBO. Which is shitty. Just the fact, too, that Colorado is where all the "Friends"-watching bigotry that led to the two kids being killer in Columbine, is the setting of "South Park" is also arrogant, but that really didn't bother me. I'm not completely surprised, as Jen Aniston did appear.

"Clerks" is true un-PC UPN-type equal opportunity humor. "South Park" is just pro-"Friends" promotional bullshit
