So glad to hear someone actually enjoy a big kit as there are so many blokes bitching and complaining about every kit they do .I'm 62 and an experienced modeller and if people find it too difficult to remove a bit of flash or have to modify something...give up the hobby. Thanks for a good build series and showing us how a professional model maker with a good attitude builds a model cheers...Matt from Australia

Hey Matt, thanks for your very kind words, greatly appreciated. Yes, most of the people that bitch about models, is because they don't understand all of the processes involved with the design and manufacture of mold tools and the way they work, along with the processes required to achieve decent parts from a molding press. Along with that, they don't understand the cost implications to fulfil some of their expectations and how those would effect the unit price of the boxed product. As a retired Director of Engineering for a mold manufacturing company, being involved with the molding industry since leaving University, I can state that it's a fine balance of knowing the average price points people are willing to pay for what sacrifice of quality they are willing to accept. Oh, we can build Rolls Royce mold tools with very intricate mechanisms to produce some of their expectations, but the majority of people buying models wouldn't be willing to pay Rolls Royce prices.
Martin from USA, originally England. Cheers : )

Can I be perfectly honest with you Martin? This is a work of art! The slide show managed to capture what a powerful beast the Tiffy was. It looks like it would just fly through stuff rather than waste ammo! Whether its the figure that gives a great perspective of size, I am not sure. But you have created a build that is just superb and I keep looking at the slides finding new detail and wowing at the weathering. I just wish I had the patience to build such large scale kits. Bloody well done sir.

Thanks for the info on the witness lines - I always relish these "inside-info" tidbits you have. I can't believe I'm so far behind on your videos. The amount of magnificent detailing and weathering you did on this kit was literally jaw-dropping. I had to remind myself to close my mouth! Ha ha, you're funny...but thank you again for the very kind compliment, much appreciated. You do some pretty awesome stuff yourself, different to what I do, we all have our own comfort zones. It's taken me 5 years, next month since I built and released my first Aircraft model video...I can't believe it's been that long already?!! And, I began modeling after taking early retirement, due to health, so, while the wife is at work, I'm at home alone all day...so, modeling was an escape from the monotony of 4 walls, boredom and the possibility of going stir-crazy! Therefore, I've been modeling most days now for almost 5 years...which when compared to someone that can only grab 8 hrs a week, maybe, because they work full-time...my one year of modeling equates to 5 years of modeling for them. On that calculation...my 5 yrs modeling would be equivalent to 25 yrs of modeling for the average working modeler...I've had a lot of time to practice and improve myself since those humble beginnings 5 yrs ago! Cheers for now! Martin : )

I spend so many hours on each of my builds, that I get too attached to them, like newborns...giving one away to a museum, or anywhere else, would give me sleepless nights worrying if it is being taken care of and not mishandled.
But, if I was commissioned to do a build, then that would be different, knowing from the start that I wasn’t building it for me.

I was wondering what was up with this vid, because the "Tiffy" build was so long ago. I have looked over my kit, and yes, there will be hours of clean up. They "seam" to enjoy giving the modeler extra work for your money. OUCH! $150?! I paid $90 for my "Tiffy". That's why I didn't mine spending the extra for corrections and the brass Hispanos. Have you checked out the 1/24th Hellcat from AirFix?

    • @InternationalBritishModeler
      @InternationalBritishModeler 5 ปีที่แล้ว

Hey Bob, yes, it was time to release the Krakken before I build a diorama for her in my next buddy build beginning January 1st, although I have my Bomber diorama to complete, along with a diorama for the 1/48 “mossie” that I’ve scratch-built the hell out of that will include the 1/48 re-fueller truck and figures.
Yes, when the “Tiffy” was first released it was top dollar, but can be picked up so much ch cheaper now. When will you build yours?
There’s no getting away from “Seam” lines, the mold parting lines are necessary for manufacturability.
Yes, saw the Hellcat when it was spotlighted at the “Telford” show in the UK, another gorgeous looking beast, but this time, I’ll wait a couple of years for the price to drop before I buy one, unless by some unlikely good fortune, Airfix or a distributor sent me one to build and review for them on my channel...I can dream.
      Cheers 👍🙂🍺🍺🍺

I ordered two kits at Jadlam's and my girlfriend purchased my Christmas gift there. It's amazing that you can get stuff from the U.K. cheaper than on the continent! We're both very happy and even Royal Mail worked well and swiftly. "I believe miracles!" Really brilliant job on the Tiffy and the pilot, Martin! How many gallons of paint did you use? :) I have enough space now for an aircraft of that scale and 50 quid don't sound bad! I'll sell my dog and take my girlfriend to the shelter. I should have enough money then! :D I'm German and we don't say Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year before Christmas Eve, so please forget that I just said it! I'll release a short tutorial then and that's the right moment for those wishes! Cheers :)

Ha ha, you too funny, although I don’t think your GF and dog would think so if you did do that 🤪🤣
Yes, they were very cheap at Jadlams, just the shipping cost to the USA that didn’t make it viable at the time, but free shipping to UK buyers...it was a steal!
Okay, forget I said what I did, and I’ll wait until Christmas Eve to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Cheers 👍🙂🍺🍺🤪😝

Wanna work worders on a big kit then you get all the refs you can. Split the kit into separate sub kits and tackle each individually. Don’t even think about it unless you have an airbrush. Utilise high grade pastel chalks Verlinden techniques, wire, grades of pencil, graphite and oil paints.

Happy...you are right. Superb build but Hawkers put a lot of work into producing a super-streamlined aeroplane as smooth as glass. Have a look at the last remaining Typhoon at the IWM. All flush riveting. Even pilots who flew them commented on the high quality glossy smooth finish to the Typhoon (and Tempest).

@@johnmclean6498 Hey John - it s fine to know, that i'am not alone - rivets on mostly all new kit's - and producers that release kits with realistic surfaces where blamed by the reviewers cause lack of details... - for more and more modelers it seems to be more important that the models look cool instead realistic...what should we do?

Nice job on the Typhoon! Weathering looks great, it's a big kit. If you have a minute pop by my channel and check it out. I'm a military modeller and do a variety of different subject matter. I just subbed.
