  • Green lake El Golfo in Lanzarote Canary Islands Spain is nearby from Timanfaya National Park and 25 kilometers to the metropolis of Arrecife.
El Golfo, the strange remains of an ancient volcano
The real highlight of the Canary Island of Lanzarote is El Golfo, an extinct crescent-shaped volcano. Part of it hides in the ocean, part of it is filled by a unique lagoon. And the rest is the wonderful Playa de los Clicos beach.
El Golfo is located in the southwestern part of the island on the Atlantic coast, a short distance from the borders of the Timanfaya National Park. The nearest town is Yaiza, from which it is about 25 kilometers to the metropolis of Arrecife and the neighboring international airport.
Take a picture of Lanzarote's rainbow palette
The biggest attraction of the El Golfo crater is a lake surrounded by a volcanic desert. It owes its bright green color to algae, changing during the day from emerald green to gray green. The surrounding rocks also abound in magical colors, and if you're lucky, you can pick up olivine from this place - a green semi-precious stone that is one of Lanzarote's symbols.
The village of El Golfo is also right next door, where you can taste excellent local fish specialties in several restaurants.
