Been a while since I’ve played war thunder, have about 3000 hours on it. Funny story, One time in a realistic battle, I flew out my B-29 bombed all three bases and instead of diving back to base to refuel, I went AFK to go make some instant ramen. 6 minutes after I cleaned up a little of the spilled ramen I set my B29 at a slight pitch and was like 40,000ft in the air, with a J7w1 trying to chase me down. Kind of felt bad and wanted the game to end too because I was the last guy & suprislny enough they bombed out our bases too, but anyway kind of getting mixed here. So I turned off my engines and just dove my plane at an angle for him to come kill me, WELL some how some way my B-29 broke Mach 1 without braking apart, leveled out my plane and my auto gunners killed him before he could kill me. Still one of my favorite memories playing this game.
Fun fact, you can’t surpass Mach one with a propeller plane, ( with the engine) because after Mach one the propeller stops pulling the plane, that’s why you have to make sure propellers don’t spin to fast, if the propeller spins faster than Mach 1 it stops pulling, this also applys to helicopters, but since their blades are so long they only spin at 250rpm (around there)
it's interesting that the A6M2-N's terminal velocity is actually lower than the speed at which structural failure would occur, at least according to the flight dynamic model that war thunder is using anyway.
After a certain airspeed, the propeller will start braking the airplane even at max power, which is part of the reason that propeller planes cannot enter the transsonic regime. It might be helpful to turn the engine off and lock the propeller (if that is still possible, i know it used to be). I know that this is where Gaijin's already hackjob'ed physics stop working at all, but perhaps locking the prop will allow the planes to go even faster after the wings rip.

It was in a dive, and the propeller had broken. It hit something like Mach 0.92.

Mach 2 isn't that uncommon for the newer jets in the game. Just fly high
Fun fact: if you turn off the engine gravity should push ypu to Mach as the engine propellor creates drag at high speeds
