- We've hit the road again in celebration of my 36th birthday to one of our favorite little corners of Costa Brava, and truly one of Spain's most exclusive coastal locations. Just a little over an hour from our house in the Maresme area of Barcelona, we took the road trip to Costa Brava to enjoy a 3 day weekend, spring weather and all, at the adorable Hotel Aiguablava. It was actually opening weekend for the hotel so everything felt extra fresh and service was great. I'm pretty sure Amadeo booked us into the best room, the Chez Xiquet, which sits at the very top of the hotel and has views over the little cove as well as sees out to the expansive view of the sea from our very own private balcony, and even from our bathroom.
After checking in to Hotel Aiguablava we took the super short 5 minute drive over to the other side of the bay to have lunch at Toc al Mar, a recommendation from a friend local to Begur. It was great, and the weather cooperated! We walked off lunch by "hiking" up a the hillside around the cove and to check out the incredibly beautiful views of the turquoise waters. Later we went back to our room to enjoy our balcony, the jacuzzi bathtub and explore the hotel a bit more before dinner. We decided to dine on the outdoor patio under the umbrellas, where there were heaters and it was definitely the way to go. Seeing the cove at night, and with this outdoor ambience was so special. It felt like we could be in the Amalfi Coast, but nope, Costa Brava, which to me is just as gorgeous and unique.
Expectedly, the rain arrived Saturday morning but it all worked out perfect and gave us reason to relax into our cozy hotel room and enjoy seeing the rain come down while we opened the bottle of cava that was part of the experience we opted in for, and watched a little netflix. When the sun broke we took the 30 minute coastal cliffside walk over to the Hotel Parador Aigua Blava (www.paradores.es) for a vermut and light lunch, when we decided to book in for a facial as well. The hotel was incredible. Contemporary. Impressive views and so so modern. Would love to stay there one day and see which hotel I prefer. We walked back to our hotel later in the afternoon, took a siesta, and then got ready for our gastronomic experience dinner that we opted for upon booking. It was so delicious, a bit too much food for me, but delicious nonetheless.
Sunday we woke super early (for a Sunday on "vacay"), packed our suitcases, and checked out so that we could catch our private sailboat over in the port of Palamós. I was worried the wind would be a bit too much and make us nauseous but in the end it was bearable (I surely would have preferred a windless, warmer day) but of course it was still such a gift to be out on the water, and to see this coastal area of Spain from the sea; many places I've visited and looked out to the sea from! So cool. We had snacks on board and had a capitain who was really interesting so it made for a really great and chill Sunday afternoon.
Overall it was an incredible weekend. I highly recommend Hotel Aigua Blava, and a visit to the coast of Begur, at least to walk these beautiful caminos and have lunch. We would have loved to have just a bit more time to go walk the town center which is a good 10-15 minute car ride away from the hotel. But, next time!

While I love recording the footage, I actually really am enjoying editing my own videos, it's like bringing it all to reality again, and permanently, so so cool. It takes a lot of time, but it's a hobby I hope to continue doing. Another way to show support would be through my Patreon here: / sable_amanda
