    As a foreigner i leave here for + 10 years. I can testify Prague is excellent: easy for non-Czech speakers, plenty of business and work opportunities and professional growth, nearly 0% unemployment, super public transports, well organised, amazing value for money, in heart of Europe, etc. Finally i am finance guy and the content in here is pretty representative & representative from my pt of view: Great job Tereza ;) !

      Maybe just appartmt rent prices looks from my perspective, undervalued.... but depends where you'll stay _probably Tereza is has her own and is not renting for sometime ;)_ Doesn't change the global picture which is right, well documented and explained.

    I'm UK citizen but have visited Prague many times. By EU standards costs are modest but I would not say cheap. Visitors are made welcome and, YES, you can survive speaking only English. Public transport is excellent.

    Loved your video. Could you please perhaps do an updated video of cost of living 2024 in Prague or Czech Republic? Also how find these rental places, or real state agencies that are trusted and safe. I read a lot about scammers posting as real state agents.

    • @NashTereza
      @NashTereza  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Gaby, basically cost of living increased by around 15% since this video. Prices are starting to stabilize now from the high inflation as it went crazy.
      We always used sreality to find rental places. Scammers are usually on facebook , and it is the people asking you to send money without seeing them, or they give a long story why they are outside of the country (then they take your money and dissapear).
      It is better to go with a real estate agent, pay some commission, and the rent is usually slightly cheaper than going no commission

  • @11barvas
    @11barvas 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    This video is absolutely out of reality. It costs at least 20k a month to rent a flat. Median average salary is around 32k per month and that's only if you speak czech. Rents will be getting at least 30% higher now. Food prices are one of highest in Europe. Property prices are quivalent to London although the rent is still quite affordable if you consider that average family flat costs from 700k to 1milion usd. Salaries in Prague are quite low considering the cost of living. You will find it extremely hard to find a job if you don't speak czech. There are only specific proffesions willing to take on foreigners such as English teaching, IT and customer support which is very poorly paid. Yes the beer is still cheaper than bottled water and that's why most people think that Czech republic is a cheap place to live 😢

    • @borisbalson1904
      @borisbalson1904 ปีที่แล้ว

      You are right. And for 20K a month you will not probably rent apartment as well, unless it is a hole .All these number are very far from reality

    • @petrsebik
      @petrsebik 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Let me clarify with recent data. Q4 2023 median salary in Prague was 46.5k CZK, average salary was 57k CZk (those numbers are from private sector of economy). You can still find small flats for rent under 15k but it will be at least 30 minutes by public transport to center. In the center you are definitely looking at 25k or more. If you want to buy a flat in Prague, it will be very expensive. Average prices ranges from 100k / 1m^2 in the outskirts to 200k / 1m^2 around center. Also mortgare rate are currently around 5% and you have to pay 20% deposit.
      I cant speak for finding jobs as a foreigner, as I am Czech myself. I work in IT and of course IT have high salaries everywhere. Here in Prague in IT you if you are a software developer with 5 years of experience you can get around 80k - 120k CZK a month.

    • @NashTereza
      @NashTereza  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @EsperanzaLalala ปีที่แล้ว

      @@NashTereza yea, I was considering an offer to Prague with 2600 euros netto. Good salary for the local job market I am sure. But it seemed not incredible considering the Prague living cost. I think the rent really got bumped up a lot recently. Restaurants seemed not too expensive most of them between 4-15 euros. But clothing or industrial products like Zara, ikea, DM, etc. didn’t see the price difference from Germany.

    • @NashTereza
      @NashTereza  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@EsperanzaLalala If you are not supporting anyone, then it is do-able and most people in Prague are earning that (or below, due to median salary being around 40k). Rent has increased and i would say maybe for 1 person in a nice place, 20k including utilities in 2 districts i would personally consider staying of busy Vinohrady or chill Prague 6.
      Restaurants average 300kc a meal (but week day lunch menus go to 200kc).
      You are right, clothes is same as other salaries, but food / groceries are now more expensive. . . An interesting activity for you can be to make a Rohlik.cz or Kosik.cz to either browse prices, or make your weekly shopping basket and see how it costs. As this is currently a high cost item for us at least at this moment.

      You would need to know exactly in which neighborhood the person was born. Each neighborhood would have its own parish and the priest would keep records for baptisms, deaths and marriages. The records are probably held by the city of Prague archives, but as I said, it’s not enough to know that they were born in Prague. If you’re an American looking for ancestors, it’s also very likely that this person wasn’t really born in Prague, but somewhere else in the vicinity and just told people they were from Prague because it’s easier. If the family was living in Prague in the early 20th century, there are police records available online that list the members of the household and te address which could help you locate the area they were living in.

      That is an insanely expensive amount compared to what it was just a few years ago. Quality of life in the Czech republic seems to be on the skids, and Europe is the same. How sad that the politicians have gotten the people into this mess. I spoke to a Czech embasador three years ago in order to decide if I will retire in my home country. She said that for two in a good district and a nice apartment that $2,200 per month would bring a good life there. We make about three times as much per month in retirement but with inflation and the direction the whole of the EU seems to be heading in ... no, I don't think so. I'll move to a South American country or perhaps Asia or Russia if I can figure out how.

      That depends. Of course as every big city, living is expensive here. If you are from the 1/3 of population fortunate enought to have at least average salary (57k CZK) than you are probably fine, but 2/3 of people have less than that, and than especially the rent can be expensive.

This book contains a lot of useful tips on how to learn a foreign language for tourists, students, entrepreneurs and anyone who needs a foreign language in life. There are a lot of good tips on how to solve problems with the language from beginner to advanced level of language learning. It turns out that the traveler only needs to know a few dialogues and you can easily travel around the world! You don't have to spend a lot of time to fully learn a foreign language, you just need to learn what you can use when you travel. I wish everyone exciting travels!

We are both world traveled and lived in Kiev Ukraine prior to the war. Could you speak on the significance or lack there-of of interracial reception in Prague? Its never been a problem for us, sometimes in Kiev with older people.

    Poprosil bych aby všichni co chcete bydlet v Česku aby jste se naučily i česky.. stejně jako mi musíme v jiných zemích mluvit anglicky nebo jejich rodnou řečí tak to prosím respektujte i u nás.. jsem s prahy a možná jsou turisté vítaní ale to neznámená že jsme zvědavý na cizince co se ani nehodlají naučit náš jazyk.. je to neuctivé neslušné a za mě pěkná hloupost a lenost ze strany nových přistěhovalcu... Prosím neberte mě nějak zle... jen mě opravdu štvou lidé kteří misto toho aby se s námi snažili domluvit česky používají překladač nebo nehodlají mluvit jinak než svou řečí.. a že jako bývalí čísník jsem měl velkou čest poznat spoustu lidí co tohle dělalí.. a byli i naštvaní... osobně mi nevadí mluvit anglicky je to primitivní jazyk kteréj se dá rychle naučit.. to samé ruština ukrajinština bulharština i když má vice dialektu.. franzouzky a nebo německy a polsky.. a však bratři poláci se s námi snaži mluvit česky a to i němci a ti s námi už stolení nemají moc dobré vztahy.. a že tu nevraživost mámé v krvi... i Angličani se snaží naučit aspon pár slov.. i když se sem jdou akorát ve velkém ožrat a pak zas letí zpátky do liverpoolu.. Prosím , nejde o turisty ale pro ty co zde chtějí bydlet je to základ.. i já se učil španělsky abych mohl jet do madridu nebo na ibizu, nebo franzouzky abych se mohl aspon základně domluvit v paříži.. je to slušnost a hlavně tím prokážete uctu cizímu národu což není vskutku povinost ale je to věc která je třeba ve světě plných válek sporu a korupce.. prosím lidi přineste aspon torochu toho dobra do světa.

    What about living comfortably with a family in Prague? 2 Kids below the age of 10.

      BTW your videos are very informative. We are moving to Prague in Jan 2022 thus my question about living with a family. I have seen you have 2 kids and guess you will be able to give a good estimate due to your experience? Thank you!

    • @letecmig
      @letecmig 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mariojansevanrensburg1227 not a very good question. Depends on what you exactly define as "living comfortably" which is massively subjective . Is two ski trips to the Alps a year with your family included or you just sit at home and watch telly during your vacations? Is the private jet when you go on vacations a necessity, or are you OK with train and vacations in the countryside near your city. Are you used to living in a palace on a central square, or is a trailer your standard? Do you insist on dining out on French Cuisine regularly or you prefer McD?
      You know what I mean-If you want good answers, you need to ask good questions;)

      @mariojansevanrensburg1227 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@letecmig thank you for your reply, ski trips would rather be considered as a luxury. But I could have been more specific. Comfortable = Living in a decent sized apartment 3 bedrooms (15-20min from City centre via car) , being able to buy groceries for the month, Eating at an affordable restaurant once a month, internet for the apartment, Netflix subscription and having some money to buy clothes for the kids each month (2000-3000 crowns), hair cuts for 3 boys every month. Pretty much the necessities that is needed for living. It is merely impossible to note everything in this chat, was just hoping for an estimate.

      @@mariojansevanrensburg1227 initial comments first:
      "ski trips would rather be considered as a luxury".... its not a 'luxury' here, most people do on e or two every year as the Alps are just 5hr drive from PRG
      " apartment ...15-20min from City centre via car"... not sure where are u from, but you need to adjust the perspective here. You do not go by car to the city center here. Absolutely inconvenient. You basically do not use car to travel In and around the city except going for weekly grocery shopping to some shopping mall in the suburbs. PRG has one of the best public transport systems in the world, and parking is not exactly easy in the city. So car is only for trips outside the city (weekend trips etc.) . Annual public transport travelcard is about CZK 4000 (yes, ANNUAL:))
      Otherwise, based on what you write, with two kids, I would say:
      EXCLUDING RENT paynent: 40k in your pocket/month should do. Most of my friends with 2 kids live on about this money and are fine including those ski trips, family vacations during the summer and some savings
      Regarding the rent: from modest 20k/month to ....sky is the limit;) - check the following site for listings of 3bed flats(3 bed flat is "4+1" or "4+kk" here: we count a living room in "4", and "+1" means kitchen is extra room, while "+kk" means kitchen corner inside the living room): www.sreality.cz/en/search/to-rent/apartments/praha?disposition=3%2Bkt,3%2B1
      Measure the commute by the public transport to work or city center by using www.dpp.cz/en
      (note: there are no 'bad areas' or 'dangerous neighborhoods' in PRG. But some areas are more preferred than others primarily because of nicer, more pleasing architecture.... too extensive topic;))
      So when you get your CZK_excl_rent+CZK_rent ..... you pay about 30% income tax of working here. So multiply by (1/(1-0.3)=1.4 to see what salary you need to afford this;)
      P.S. Healthcare is free if you are employee here (more precisely, the 'insurance' is part of that 30% income tax)
      P.P.S. education from the elementary schools to univesity is free here if your kids can speak Czech (regardless if they are Czech citizens). Private schools in English or other language can be expensive - but I have no idea how. Also note that private/paid education does not mean higher quality here, so the only reason you need to pay for it is if your kids are unable to learn Czech or you want to move on in forseeable future.

    Everything in the czech republic is expensive. Buying a car is very expensive compared to america for the same model car. They don't have car leases in prague like they do in America. This place is just expensive compared to America. Everything thing in america is less expensive. Buying a pair of Lee denim Jean's cost the equivalent of $100 american dollars, this is crazy. I bought a pair on sale in america for $40 dollars on sale. America is the land of everything. Electronics here cost so much more compared to America, and they don't have the latest models on certain products. I am not liking this place. Driving here is also terrible. The streets are not meant for large cars in the czech republic. I wanna go back home.
