    You should make more videos like this! Really interesting stuff 🤝

    When video was jello-free, we did crazy stuff like building “35mm adapters”. :D

      I passed on this wonderful DIY opportunity. I did not have the material worthy of shallow DOF anyway ;-)

      Really enjoyed this video. I have owned a Panasonic NV GS400 from new. It's terrific with the
      Manual iris controls etc. I also have a Nikon D5200 with the 50mm G lense. Looking forward
      To more video from your channel. I see the comment about the DOF adapter, I built a DOF for the GS400 it's fun to use but like many of these DOF adapters it's very hard to focus and the image
      Is upside down. Thanks for posting cheers.

    I just want to thank you for all your videos. Lots of good information!
    I've bought a couple of panasonic SDR H280 camcorders with hard drives. I'm hoping this will give me similar looking results without the hassle of buying and using mini DV cassettes. They have CCCD sensors also.

      @@ConsumerDV The dazzle DVC100, is it possible to live stream with this usb adapter and a composite/s-video output?
      or does it only capture video with capture software into files?
      for example, could i use an old camera as a security cam with a live feed to a HTPC?Thanks in advance.

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The Dazzle itself does not capture nor stream, it just sends video from one end to another. You don't have to capture the video feed that camera sends, it is up to you and your choice of software. As for cameras, some cameras can be switched to dedicated live mode, other send video when turned on even during pause, but then they automatically turn off after five minutes or so. So, as always, it depends ;)

    Hi, First of all thanks sharing this video, i have this camera but i am unable to connect iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch, 2017), Did you have any idea to connect it, please advice.

      I do not use Mac for video capture and editing myself, but other people had success by converting Firewire to Thunderbolt, for example this: th-cam.com/video/i5aqhAE8FII/w-d-xo.html and this: th-cam.com/video/UW2Bbn_OjNA/w-d-xo.html It even works for a Windows PC: th-cam.com/video/GASIuX1mqwE/w-d-xo.html

    I just bought this camcorder but I'm having a problem finding the A/V cable online for hooking up to a TV to watch my old tapes. Does anyone know where to buy these cables, or is there another way that I can play them on my TV from the camcorder?

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It seems that the part name is Panasonic K2KZ9CB00001, but please don't take my word for it and verify. If you check the GS320 manual, it lists part numbers, and it is a similar camcorder. It is discontinued. I found one on eBay, shipped to the U.S. from the U.K. it would be about $50. It would be easier to capture the tape into a file and watch it on a computer.

      @@ConsumerDV Thanks, I saw the one from the UK on ebay but I'm hesitant about ordering from that far away, I''ll do more research on the part number. thanks again for replying.

    Great video thank you.Quick question I have a PV - GS 500 but my newest computer is an iMac running high Sierra and I cannot figure out how to download my video to the computer for editing. Any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In theory you should be able to use USB, the GS500 can send data via USB in addition to FireWire. But I do not use Apple products, so cannot tell you for sure.

    • @guitarmonks
      @guitarmonks 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for your quick reply. Unfortunately Mac will not recognize the USB like it used to. And FireWire is went through so many changes I'm not even sure I could find a cable that would connect. I appreciate you trying to help, it's sad to have such a great camera and not be able to use it. Thanks again for your help :-)

    Hi thanks for the vid, I just bought one on Ebay. what is the lens hood that you have on the camera?

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think I've used a hood in this video. I do have a generic hood for 43mm thread, but I do not use it often. BTW, if you are going to attach a hood or a filter, the front part with the lens shutters can be unscrewed, so your filter or wide angle converter could be closer to the lens.

      @@ConsumerDV thanks, my mistake, you show the black lens hood in the video titled MiniDV is the new Super 8.

    What type of connection did you use to connect it to your pc?

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a late DV model, so it is capable of transferring video not only via FireWire, but over USB as well. I used USB.

    • @simonhendriks7014
      @simonhendriks7014 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ConsumerDV Oh thanks, i've read that you can only can transfer photo's via USB, can you really confirm that video also works via USB? I'm considering buying one of these, but i'm totally new to miniDV camera's

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have Windows 7 64-bit, captured into Sony Vegas 13. Yes, I used USB, because my current computer does not have FireWire at all. Your mileage may vary.

    Is there 3ccd hd?

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, up until 2008 or 2009 there were consumer HD camcorders made with 3CCD, for example Panasonic HDC-SD9, this model can also record in native 24p. There were professional models as well. But since then most consumer camcorders have switched to CMOS, either a single sensor or a 3MOS setup.

    mini dv tapes aren't cheap

    • @ConsumerDV
      @ConsumerDV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were cheap until a year or so ago. As far as I know, they are not manufactured anymore, although I could not find a press release about the production termination. During the last 15 years or so you could buy them for $2 apiece. Now they are about $5 apiece on eBay, still this is not crazy expensive for one hour of video, and they are re-recordable unlike Super 8 cartridges. It is all relative.
