Hi Daz, I'm learning Irish with Patchy and have been pronouncing slender Rs more like Zh and I have a ton of people arguing with me about it and making fun of me for it on Irish social media including the co-founder of the Pop-Up Gaeltacht, it's nice to see somebody else pronouncing slender r that way and confirming that it can be pronounced that way, I'm going to stick with my pronouncing my slender Rs like that even though I've faced tons of social media backlash for it as a beginner learner trying to distinguish hard from soft consonants
I hope you one day write a book on Mayo Irish. I’d say there can’t be more than hundreds of native speakers left. You have a lot of knowledge and more importantly know how to articulate it in context. You may need to source and chronicle your primary sources fairly sharpish though given the demographics!
I am so happy to have had someone recommend this video to me. Irish is so beautiful, its sounds so rich, and Irish English even is the most beautiful of all forms of our language. Thank you!
You are quite good at replicating the dialects in your speech. I spent quite some time doing this with Gaedhilg Ghaoth Dobhair and have tried to learn to do it with others but have not had nearly the success you have

Very interesting, important, but not too useful. We need Irish spellings & International Phonetic Alphabet spellings !!! How else can we read & write ?!!?

As a Canadian using Duolinguo to learn Irish. Please make more of these!!!!
So hard but i will not give up. I need to hear the words my Grandma and Father would have known. Need a book or maybe a library of them.

Great but do people speak it in Mayo anywhere anymore
I agree - interesting but an awful lot of information to absorb and somehow remember to apply when you eventually learn some Irish words!

An spéis agam sna físeáin seo agat. Cuirim spéis ach go h-áirithe sa bhreis eolais faoi stair na teanga agus cúlra foghraíochta.

When I listen to Irish language radio, I’ve been surprised how English some presenters’ Irish sounds.
In 50 years, many people will speak 'Irish' but the real language will be extinct.
Go maith, lean ar aghaidh, a chara.
an bhfuil aon moltaí agat chun Ghaeilge Maigh Eo a fhoghlaim, mar shampla; leabhair mhaith
