Hi, I really enjoy watching your NAS videos and also backing up things via a remote Pi.
I am currently setting up a hyper backup from my synology NAS to my raspberry pi as a rsync server. So far, this works flawless in my home network, however, it requires a static ip which I have set up for the eth0 interface.
If I connect my Pi to my parents remote network and tunnel via my Wireguard (also already set up) to my home network. Will my eth0 still exhibit the static ip? HyperBackup will also use port 873. Do I need to setup something in addition on my configuration for it to work via Wireguard?
I just want to make sure that it will work out of the box, next time I'll visit them...

I always struggled to compile Wireguard DKMS due to kernel version problems. What is your experience in this? And what kernel version are you using at the moment? I like to setup Wireguard VPN Server on my Raspberry Pi but has some issues with it. PiVPN has a way to implement it I saw but I tried to compile it on my own instead of using PiVPN. Hope you got the right answer for me.

I just started dabbling in mining crypto but I want to either buy a VPN service or make my own. I’m no expert in security but would that be recommended? What about a firewall like Pfsense.

Got some errors. " #error "WireGuard has been merged into Linux >= 5.6 and therefore this compatibility module is no longer required."". Please help me solve it.

Is there any updates on this? I just tried this on my Pi 4 running Buster and I got to the part where you enter "make -C wireguard-linux-compat/src -j$(nproc)" and got a ton of errors like: "WireGuard has been merged into Linux >= 5.6 and therefore this compatibility module is no longer required." The next few steps error. How do I undo what I've done up til now? I don't want to reinstall Raspbian.

Hello, and many many thanks for this understandable tutorial!
I have a Raspberry Pi here that has the IP 192.168.3.101 in my local network. This connects to a Raspberry Pi with pivpn server with Wireguard. The connection also starts automatically after a reboot - so far everything is ok.
But how can I now route the complete network traffic of a specific device from my LAN (192.168.3.xxx) to the Raspberry and then through the WG connection?
I would be really grateful for a short explanation!

Quick question, do you know if they may have added Wireguard to the apt respoitoriy since this video? I was about to follow your tutorial to set it up, but tried an 'apt install wireguard' just to check and it seems to have found and installed it. now if O do a 'which wg' I get a response /usr/bin/wg and a 'which wg-quick' responds with /usr/bin/wg-quick.

Whole video pretty much useless now lol just use apt install

@@SpaceRexWill Lol. One more question. I've created the wg0.conf file (Copied it from my laptop and changed the Pi's IP address and the private key). When I issue the sudo wg-quick up wg0.conf it starts to bring the tunnel up but freezes, there are 2 lines that say 'Too few aurguments.' Any ideas, I have to pull the power on the Pi and plug it back in to recover.

    • @SpaceRexWill

So if you just quit the terminal window it probably will actually connect again because the ssh tunnel was interrupted

@@SpaceRexWill Tried it won’t reconnect. Googled it and found a bug report on Arch from a year ago or so with what looks like the same issue. I’ll wait a bit and see if anyone else has the same issue. Anyway, thanks for all the videos they’ve been helpful. Keep up the good work!!

Is it possible to run wireguard server and client on the same raspberry pi? I've created a Wirguard server using pipvn and it's working perfectly I can connect home with my phone but I've been trying to use the same rpi the wireguard server is running on to connect to a remote paid VPN service. Is this possible ? I want to use my rpi as a VPN gateway in my home but at the same time I want to be able to access my home devices from a remote location.

This would require your VPN service to allow you to open up ports so that you can use the client
