    New to engine maintenance, this has to be one of the clearest concise videos I have seen. Thank you, subscribed.

    Thanks for this video...Helped me tackle the gasket on my e87 116i. Ended up being very straightforward on my simplified engine. Hardest part was getting the plastic valve cover off as the old gasket had turned rock hard and was glued on. Putting the new gasket on was super easy and just dropped into place.

    Nice, just bought a 2005 E90 and noticed that oil has dribbled down onto the cat. Your video is just what the doctor ordered.

    Nice vid, i like it :) But you forgot something important though: The "Drei Bond 1209" or "Three Bond 1209" paste. It is used to seal around the edges at the cover, without it the rubber sealing will leak again or the engine "breathes air wrong". That 3 Bon 1209 is just 5 bucks or even less. Friend of mine working for BMW here in germany done this change with me, and he almost freaked out as i tried to fit it on the engine without that 3 Bond sealing paste :D its really important to keep it tight and sealed :)

      I've never used anything on any gaskets before. If the gasket is flag, no half circles in it, do you still need this?

    Thanks mate, just did this today on my 2006 3 series (e90), if you label the bolts and use the right tools you can’t go wrong! Save your coin for mods and not for dealer repairs

    Great video! Thanks!!! Can this bad gasket create a mis fire? There is a lot of oil leaking to the point of smoking around the engine bay. Thx in advance.

    Great video, to diagnose if this gasket has gone, would dampness and a smell of petrol / oil through the vents be a symptom? It looks a bit damp around the rocker cover also one of my spark plugs had a bit of oil on it as well

    No 10nM on the top bolts.. see other videos in German they all show.. plus must use drei bond on all the half moons!!
    Also that's the valvetronic motor lead in top ( not vanos) and it's the eccentric shaft sensor ( not camshaft) and replace its gasket too.. comes in the good OEM elring kits.. also comes with the replacement 4 x spark plug tube o rings too.

    • @slengoslengaw8510

    Great video. BMW recommend the rocker cover gasket bolts to be torqued to 30nm and then quarter turned 90 degrees x2 times.

    great video, My 318i is smoking from the back of the bay, guessing it may well be the gasket leaking on to the exust manifold. I hate that i will get charged loads if i still had my undercover garage i would crack on my self... thanks

    The plug on top is the eccentric shaft reference sensor plug. Gotta be careful not to break the clips when removing.

    When i try to put the rocker cover back on, it seems to get stuck at the back end closet to windscreen, gave it a push etc still feels if something is blocking it. Checked all over but nothing, any ideas?

    Hi what brand/grade oil you recommend for this engine?

    • @aricerse4654
      @aricerse4654 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      But late but 5w-30 or 0w-30 which is fully synthetic, also try to find one with LL-01 certification. Use 0w-30 if you have a low mileage engine and use 5w-30 if you have a high mileage engine.

    Cheers for this. Bought one of these 6 months ago,& the thing has broke my heart. Without doubt the worst car I have owned. Do you have a video for an intake manifold removal on an E90? Because of a broken breather pipe, the manifold has to be removed to get at it.....

    • @indoperfect4080
      @indoperfect4080 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      wrong, ccv hoses and ccv itself can be changed without removing the intake manifold. The other day I had to remove it but for the starter

    This is the best video on removing head gasket. Thank you very much! I take it i need to drain old before i remove it? Or not required? Thanks allot

    • @kneecaps2000
      @kneecaps2000 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not head gasket. Valve cover gasket. Very different. No need to drain oil , just make sure engine is cold before attempting so all/most oil at bottom. Done this on several BMW engines and it looks complex bit it's not. Sealant on the moon shaped bits is essential.
