Everybody KNOWS "jab" as you call it is French. Trinidadians understand their culture more than you think. By the way, the word is actually diable, French or diab Creole. That bogus spelling, "jab" is a Trinidadian and Grenadian thing. When we misspell words they lose their meanings.

Jab has NOTHING to do with the Spanish, although in some Spanish speaking countries they actually blacken themselves to play their carnival.

I am NOT sure what you mean by the Trinidad version. You NEED to educate yourself about Trinidadian culture. I DON'T know where you are from, but the diable molassie is also part of the Trinidadian culture. We DON'T see them that much anymore as when I was a child but they are still there. I hope they are revived in their large numbers like back in the 1970s, which is the era I KNOW about.

By the way, Trinis call "jab jab" black devils or diables molassies and NOT jab jabs as Grenadians call them, so understand the concept of what he is talking about.

What this man is calling jab jab is what Grenadians call Shortknee somewhat, apart from the bush baths and whippings.
