    For everyone suggesting raised beds - I also made the same decision almost instantly 😅 it's that or double digging but I think raised beds is probably the better solution for this plot!

    Your excitement is infectious JB. When we put our polytunnel up it took us weeks. The ground was full of large stones. Good luck with the frame and Steve would be very, very proud.

      Yeah I was quite lucky in some ways, there were a few big stones but nothing too serious. I'm hoping to get it up ASAP so I can put some peppers in there and make it feel alive 😁

He was obviously fond of you,like everyone is. He would be so proud of your progress. Well done, JB. I do think, for me,raised beds were a game changer, and it might be your game changer, too.

    You are doing amazingly well, I have clay soil with big stones which is a complete nightmare to get anything into as you just continually hit massive stones. I had to put 8 foot posts into my borders and I ended up digging out the holes by hand, and then pouring water in to make it mud and removing the stones with washing up gloves on through the mud! I was going down about a foot and a half. It worked really well although it was crazy and I must have looked like I was giving the soil a gynaecological exam as I was up to my elbows with rubber gloves on, rummaging about.

      @JBNat  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      😂😂😂😂 Laughing so much, what a description. I've dug a lot of fence posts in my time as a countryside ranger and I swear most of those went in easier than these tiny little foundation tubes! Sounds like you did a great job on your posts though for sure

    😲 Mate! You did it!! In a weekend!!! That would have taken me a month. I know this for a fact as I built a Greenhouse in my garden almost entirely by myself (I got a friend to lend his hands with the glass installation). But I did not know how to build a Polytunnel so seeing the poles and the plates was instructive - they were not as I had imagined. I daresay you’ve got the hoops all on now and it must look splendid. Your 2024 🌶️ season is going to be epic.
    Speaking of which, I just received a new LED grow light today to aid my next season - a ViparSpectra 2023 jobber with dimmer to solve the ‘too bright’ problem I had this year. My guys are all looking wonderful now, tons of fruits coming. It’s all come good after a shaky mid-season. But let’s not talk about the 🍅 and the problems that the compost has caused. Sylvagrow for me next year, the Dalefoot is way, way too strong nowadays. I had to ‘dilute’ it with Sylvagrow to make it bearable by the plants.

      Yesss I was so proud of myself honestly. Was so close to not coming back when I went home at 2 for food 😅 I did take tonight off too just to rest, honestly everything hurts. Hoping we can get the frame up tomorrow though 😁 can't wait for next year's peppers. Hoping to expand the autopot systems as they are doing amazingly well.
      I have a viparspectra and they're really good, happy to hear your chilli's have made a good recovery 😁😁

    I feel your pain. I was very lucky that a friend in a local farm was able to come and level a section of a slight hill so I could build my 14x70ft tunnel. I used screw-in poles from first tunnels but ended up hitting so much rock that I ended up using an auger and spade to slowly excavate to 30 holes. I love watching your journey with this and I’m really looking forward to watching your time with the tunnel. Can you anticipate the joy?! 😂Also thank you very the sped up hammering bit. I laughed a lot!!

    • @JBNat

      14 x 70ft Holy cow I hadn't realised it was that big!! My eyes are watering thinking about how much work that must have been to build

  • @locke6531

    will be good to see it up again and getting its first use, Steve will be proud of ya. Q, if the U-bolts are fixed to the pipe above the flat plate, wouldn't the pipe still pull out of the flat plate. I would have thought the U-bolts would be under the flat plate to prevent the pipe from being able to be pulled out. I haven't put a tunnel up tho so just speculating, i'm sure your following Steve to the tee 👍

    • @JBNat
      @JBNat  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks locke! And yeah each plate has a clip underneath AND on top to secure the plate in place

    • @locke6531
      @locke6531 ปีที่แล้ว

      @JBNat cheers, that makes sense. Wonder if there's a third one for the hoops to sit on. Can recall that Steve made it so he could adjust the tension on the cover somehow 🤔

    Hi JB, great job getting the playes & poles in. I have a poytunnel but, mu hubby paid for first tunnels to build it as he didn't trust himself to do it 😅 it's only 10ft x 10ft, he said itcwas money well spent. I have pallett collars in mine and i love it. I also have 2 high pallett collars in the rest of my plot too. Our soil is exactly the same as yours, raised beds are defintely the way to go. I tried to grow in the ground for a season, and it was awful. Can't wait to see it completed. You 😊and Jess will love it. Thanks for sharing and take care 😊

    JB, I think I have to agree with a lot of the comments regarding the raised beds,, if you have a shallow soil depth then the answer is to raise the soil level with raised beds,,, you've done really well to get all the anchor points in,,, let the build begin,,,

    You're doing a cracking job. Are you going to try a homemade compost bin like Steve was experimenting with?

    • @JBNat
      @JBNat  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! Probably not to be honest, thankfully Steve has already showed us his fairly successful experiment! He was intrigued by the hotbin but showed everyone that if you want to build one on a budget you absolutely can.

    Ah JB when ever you put a video out I always watch it as there so good. Just think this time next year a Polly tunnel full of tomatoes.
    I Have a large greenhouse. with loads of buckets with holes cut in the bottom half fill with compost and tomato's and cucumbers but after the tomatoes have finished. I leave buckets were they are and put garlic bulbs in-between the buckets alway have an amazing garlic ready for harvesting just before the time comes for tomatoes plants go in again. Much better than my outside garlic.

    • @JBNat
      @JBNat  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ahh thank you so much Pauline ❤️ I've heard great things about the bucket method and I know Tony does that too. Might well give it a go at some point! Will definitely try garlic in the tunnel too, hopefully no white rot 🤞
