To add to the section 8 conversation, it keeps you stifled. I used to manage a restaurant and had a middle aged woman working for me. Sweet lady. One day she comes in and says,”Des you giving me too many hours. They gone cut my section 8 off. I live in a 4 bedroom house with a pool. It’s nice af.” Now this was in Chicago where rents are crazy. If you think long term, yes, she got free rent. The house was in south suburbs in not the greatest area, she has no investments, 401k etc. it’s a trap.
It really is a trap. You get just enough to barely survive and just enough to keep you dependent. It's not meant to help anyone get ahead

Ish was BUGGING on the section 8/ government assistance topic. I grew up in income based housing. The overwhelming majority were finessin the system and selling out men to have a false perception of "independence ".
I lived in apartment complex that had a majority of ppl on section 8 and seen a well known stripper have an eviction notice on her door for not paying I kid you not 16 fucking dollars in rent ! She had a two bedroom apartment and I paid $550 next door for a one bedroom and worked 2 jobs lol I’ve also seen ppl living there and not working but around tax season they had a hummer in the parking lot lol
You’ve got to be really naive to believe everyone is a good person and just using those programs bc they need them lol
They should do a podcast where everyone’s girl comes in & replaces them for one pod.

ABC Dateline used to do special round table surveys in the 80’s and 9/10 young single moms admitted to checks when they were asked if they would choose a check over the man. And there are several social media videos and comments today of young women choosing the same thing.

(2) As far as today you do know that section 8 housing is a subsidized discount on rent, right? Meaning a single mother (without a man) can live in a $2k/month apartment for $300 + food stamps. I know because one of my rental units is used for section 8.
