  • As we enter the major and minor prophets of the OT, we come to Isaiah. While it's a book known as the 5th gospel for its vivid descriptions of the birth, life, and death of the Messiah, it also contains messages of warning and judgement against the nation of Israel.
Today we look at a passage out of Isaiah 28 that shows a confrontation with the prophets and priests of the northern kingdom. While they are meant to be fulfilling their duties as mediators with God and foreshadowing Christ that is to come, they are falling short of their calling, with Isaiah calling them drunkards who do nothing but stumble and vomit out filth.
We'll see Godly and human wisdom contrasted and Israel's leaders stumble in their folly. Isaiah brings a message of warning from God and, finally, judgement as their callous disinterest in God's word turns to inability when God removes his blessing.
As Isaiah 30:15 says, in repentance and rest is our salvation, and in quietness and trust is our strength. While this is a simple truth, only the wisdom of God can bring acceptance and living it out.
