    Everything Will says here is 100% true. My girl Lucy would die to protect me, and the 2 biggest issues I encountered in her training were her separation anxiety and her protectiveness.
    The number 1 piece of advice I would give a new Cane Corso owner is this: You don't need to train this dog to protect you. That's in their bones, they will do it instinctually. You need to train this dog not to view every new person, dog and situation as a threat. Socialization, socialization, socialization! I take Lucy everywhere; dog parks, music festivals, farmer's markets, restaurants, etc.
    Because of her level of socialization she is totally calm in all of them. Not just calm, but friendly and sweet. I get compliments constantly on how gentle she is. My local beer garden owner gave me permission to let her off leash while we're there because she is good with everyone. She interacts with toddlers, dogs and grown men and is never aggressive. The few times someone has been aggressive with me, she understands the difference between friendly excitement and aggression and immediately protects me. When she does so she is terrifying. But she never misdirects that protection and that is the best gift you can give both your Cane Corso and yourself.

      Do cane corso drool a lot?

    • @kristopherriemer4807
      @kristopherriemer4807 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@n5freestyle100 In comparison to other Mastiff breeds? No, not at all. Mine only drools when she's super hot or anxious, so basically never at home, only when we're out. But if you've never had a Mastiff or other drooling breed, then yes they do a little bit.

      So can you tell me what to do with my corso? I have a 5 month old 85 lb corso and he is SUPER submissive with other dogs at the dog park. Will he grow out of this or does he need training???

    • @kristopherriemer4807
      @kristopherriemer4807 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@adoggdog3988 I'd say he's still a puppy and learning his place and size. It's very possible he'll grow out of it. Also, Lucy often acts submissive with smaller dogs because she's learned that they are more willing to play with her when they aren't scared.
      At one point she played rough with a huge male mastiff/great dane mix and he kicked her butt pretty good, after that she was much more submissive with other dogs for awhile. But we met a guy with a 95 pound female dogo argentino and did a couple play dates at the park because they were very evenly matched and both liked to play rough. They had a great time and she got her confidence back.
      Maybe find another large puppy with similar energy levels to your dog and get them together several times? It will allow your dog to get comfortable with a peer and get some confidence. If they're constantly around new dogs each time they go to the park it's harder for them to figure out where they stand in the pecking order and thus to feel safe and comfortable in their play.

      @@kristopherriemer4807 ah okay I was nervous for a second, yea I just ask because I’ve already met a lab & rottie his age that already show dominant behavior even when they meeting new bigger dogs, but one low growl or bark from an elder dog and he immediately lays down and rolls on his belly.

    I unexpectedly got a cane corso. Someone was selling a puppy online listed as a black lab pitbull mix. I bought him for 75 dollars and within 2 months of having him, he literally tripled in size. I then did a DNA test on him and found out he is a cane corso. I love him to death!

    I loooove this working breed. I crossed a working line with a great dane, and the Cane Dane was a HUGE version. They went to work with several autistic children for pressure therapy and stability support for adults. Amazing temperament.

  • @TheMatizyahu

    I teach mine to protect me while i sleep. We are doing a lot of hiking and wild camping in forest so it comes handy when he react when something unexpected happend at nighttime in the middle of dark forest. For now i trained him to stand above me (my body is under his belly) and to bark when something or someone approach to close to our camp. He is 5 months old so intimidation factor is slowly developing but man... He is already fearless when it comes to my safety and guarding.

    • @em0rgue433
      @em0rgue433 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      No need to teach that. He will do that on his own. Socialization is much more important than developing/training guarding. He has more protective instict than you can imagine. If you continue this training he may develop an overprotective issue that is very hard to overcome. Amos(my 18mo 130lb corso) stood his ground against a bear at barely a year old.

When i got my rottie 4 years ago we had 4 dogs, lost one to old age and another one to I am not sure what. But my great pyr is really old which will leave my rottie alone and i don't think she will do well plus i dont want her taking on coytes alone. Less cruel than neutering dogs. At least cropping doesn’t change the hormonal makeup of the dog.

    Disappointing ... there seems to be a focus on the physical and martial aspects of the dog ... all decent well looked after dogs will die for their master ... not just the Corso. There's a disturbing subtext here ... for people who seem to want to hide behind their pooch. If you feel safe coming home from the pub ... drink less and get an uber ...

      1 point about temperament; 1 about the working ability; 1 about the physical upkeep. 3 important aspects to consider when preparing for breed ownership. The subtext is your own to write. If you feel perpetually safe, I’m very pleased for you - but you can’t speak for everyone’s lived experience. Also, no pub was mentioned… 😉

      @@gemellodipriapo subtext isn’t inherent in a text; it’s projected by the audience in a meaning-making process, particularly in the absence of an author. And yes, you mentioned safety, apropos the comment on feeling safe in the video, hence my response. Safety (and the perception thereof) matters to a lot of people - particularly the vulnerable - when selecting a dog. It certainly mattered to me when I got my corso, living in a rough neighbourhood. If it doesn’t matter to you, then it’s irrelevant to you, not wrong.

      @@lp9476 You don't know what subtext means ...the subtext is the less obvious meaning or message in a literary composition,. the subtext, is the implicit meaning. The implicit meaning here is "get big dog, boss people about." If you don't like my understanding of your "show" ... get over it ... I have a valid opinion as a viewer. I hope you won't put your dog on me! Lol

      @lp9476 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gemellodipriapo it’s amusing that you’re attempting to school me on the meaning of subtext, given my credentials… did you skip ‘Introduction to Literary Theory’ in freshers’ week? It’s not my show; I’m not a pugnacious person; my dog is geriatric; she was never an attack dog; and I have never shown any aggression towards you in wanting to defend this video’s intention. I’m sorry that your projected subtext has upset you, but there’s nothing here that most people would take as a suggestion that you should use a corso as an intimidation dog!

    We have a bitch Cane Corso and she is so nervous on the lead in busy places. Pretty much scared of everything with wheels, noises, groups of people but to the point that all her senses stop working. Doesn’t listen at all, food has no affect, she’s just in fight or flight mode.
    She’s 16 months old and we’ve had her since she was 11 months and made sure we have socialised her regularly but it’s getting no better.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks
