    Exhaust range is .015 -.019. Anything below that is going to be to tight and cause the valves to open too soon and stay open too long. Albeit not by much but it's still out of spec. I have one right now that the intakes are all good, but the exhausts are all between .013 and .011. That means they need to be swapped out for thinner buckets right? I should mention also that I'm working on a 19 Escape if it matters. Thanks for the video. Edit 2 : I didn't wait till the end to comment........

    Thank you for this video! I am cleaning and installing new valve seals on my cylinder heads (2012 f150 3.5l ecoboost). In my haste, I removed the valve tappets without marking them (doh!). I suppose I should install the thinnest buckets first and work up from there?

    Is there a way to do valve lash adjustment without removing the timing chains? I may have to do this to a 18 escape 1.5 L. If the warranty company will not replace the engine. My valve lash is out of spec on number four cylinder intake valves, with a loud chatter, thanks in advance for the reply

      No because the adjustment is changing the bucket size

    i put a 1.6 together the other day in after I started and Spike( engine calm) went down the engine has a little tapping. Is the noise possible one of the tappets (cups) that was rearranged by mistake? Machine shop did reseat valves on #2 only for other reasons wondering where did I go wrong on the job.

    Helps a bunch, but here is my twist. Just recently had my head resurfaced and valve job on a 2.3 EB Mustang. I'm installing "stage 4" aftermarket cams. The machine shop did not return my buckets, so how would one find a default base (if there is one) bucket to determine lash with larger cams?
    I'd assume the VIN doesn't go into that much detail when purchasing parts.
    My thought is to purchase a couple smaller buckets... .030/.0325/.0350 and check each valve. Would this make sense in your opinion?

      Absolutely makes sense what you would do and spec each valve individually

      In your situation you would start with a 000 size bucket and work from there.
      For a tight valve you can take a little off the valve tip rather than changing the bucket, for a wide valve you buy a taller bucket or if it isn't out by much you could lap the valve a little more.

    I have a question about the position of the cam lobes. I've got a 2011 Ford Escape 2.5L and replacing valve seals and trying to get rid of a tappet noise. Just not sure what angle or how many rotations etc. I should have them set before measuring-

      Cam lobe should be with no pressure on the valve and on the base heel or base center to the bucket is how you measure

    I've never thought ecoboost engines had bucket style lifters.
    Focus mk1 with 2.0 Zetec engine has changeable shims on top of those bloody buckets. So no need to remove camshafts. A special shim removal tool and new shims (with proper size) and that's it.

      Snug them up you'll be fine

      You got to remind me on Monday man I don't work on the weekends so I there's no way I can answer that without a computer in front of me and it's going to be a very tedious procedure to figure out the bucket size for the valve clearance

    If you were starting from scratch on the cylinder head, what would you do as far as measuring tappets? Somebody who has to order them from a dealer, I can't buy 16 of each size. At the end of my rope lol

      No you have to get a variety of these buckets and you're going to have to do each cylinder individually and each time you find the one that you need you're going to have to possibly move that the next valve you can reuse the same ones over and over again and just keep a piece of paper on what size is going to be needed for that particular valve

      Just get a variety of them and you each cylinder one at a time and then once you figure out what you need order them specifically for that valve it's pretty easy man you just have to be able to have the time to do it and be patient

      @@FordBossMe thanks man. Thats what we have started doing. One cylinder at a time and writing down what fits. I have 5 different sizes from the original setup to work with. Also your crank seal video saved me. I seen it last night and came in the shop this morning and showed my father in law it was rolled out. Thanks for replying again.

      You don't know what bucket size you need they're all different each one of them respect individually for that valve so there is no set size

      Even the high pressure fuel pump has a bucket it rides up and down

      Thanks for the reply, do they all need to be the same clearance ? Intake side on eb mustang acceptable clearance is from 0.19-0.31mm

      @@FordBossMe so you think that can be that chatter tapping noise about 10 seconds after I start the engine? sound great when first started then..... I'm going to drop dead if I have to pull them cams, phasers, belt and everything else what is horiffic on 2015 Fiesta. First time doing those type of engines didn't know you had to check the lash wow.. What was Ford thinking?😓

    What ford do you work at I sure need you looking at my car I have a 2018 ford escape I was doing 45mph in rush hour traffic an my suv went from normal operating temperature to skyrocketed red to walk down to whatever they call that lip mode last control my steering automatically turn on my emergency flashers love me in the middle of the road almost was ringing over by a truck took it to Ford in Manville Texas big star Ford and They told me that I overheated it and then I need a new engine so they put the bottom half engine in a short not a long they It sounds like a chicken time bomb like the lifters or cams or something need to be tightened down The girl tells me there's no lifters in the engine Well what the hell makes it run anyways They didn't put a new head on my car because now they're saying it didn't overheat So they don't need to put new heads Well anyways they had over six weeks and they sand it back with some other cars parts on it and not even my original parts on it the splash guard they ruined two years ago but wouldn't replace it so I zip tied it up and every time I got a oil change from Jiffy Lube they cut the zip ties and put it Didn't my oil change put the zip ties back on it It wasn't hanging or dangling or anything like that They just reached underneath of it and seen it with zip tied up there and just started ripping stuff off Now they don't want to replace that They tell me I owe $400 for a new battery which nothing was wrong with my battery They put some kind of phone rubber over top of my engine on the top side instead of my hard plastic And they're telling me I owe $1,000 bill when I send it back to them to fix what they did not fix the beginning with How the hell does that happen and they're telling me there's no lifters on it to tighten down bullshit I'm a girl but I ain't no dumb girl Now sure wasn't born yesterday

      @@FordBossMe I'm in Texas just a little far lol after 8 weeks of not having my car it still sounds like a ticking time bomb the GM at Manville big star ford said I'm a girl an I dnt know nothing about cars he told me that it makes that noise cause it's a used car an I meet to give him his f...ing car back now I have been a ford girl for 49 years an today I don't even want to drive one now very very sad how general manager would treat somebody like that from Ford
