Before strict adherence to the Motion Picture Production Code in 1934...
...pre-code films could get away with some rather suggestive material.
Case in point is this seduction scene between Fredric March and Miriam Hopkins...
...which, in just a few short years, would be unheard of on the screen.

I first saw this at a movie theatre where it was advertised with the caption, "Banned on TV for twenty years!". Didn't understand why at the time.

He did go back but as Mr. Hyde. Quite a difference between this version and the subsequent one with Spencer Tracy and Ingrid Bergman. Both tell the story of the tortured and conflicted Victorian doctor but the latter not as graphic. Both versions are excellent and both should be viewed for comparison. Watch in the Frederic March version as Hyde gets uglier and more hideous with each transformation. More and more pure evil.
Great pre code . I enjoyed this movie very much. Hopkins and March were superb.

I watched this movie on TCM today Oct 31, 2020. And noticed what looks like a scene was cut out of her undressing to get in bed? She started to undress and picture blacked out next scene she was in bed...
The "Dirty 30's" Almost all movies in the 30' s were Risque.
And women had more roles in the films. They even talked to other women and in groups, like women actually do. Now a days women are inserted into films too often.
Censored! Myriam Hopkins peeled off her stockings in that very scene. Those few seconds are missing.
Makes you wonder just how different the movie industry could've been if the country wasn't run by so many uptight, puritans.

Her accent was far more offensive than the bedroom scene. "Cor blimey guv'nor, broke me ribs 'e did" 🤣

The print you're working from appears to have omitted the brief 2-3 second shot after Jekyll pokes at the second garter with his cane and we get a full-on side view of naked Ivy pulling the covers up as she reclines into bed.

I have this version and the 1940s version, and I prefer the 1930s version, although the 40s version does have better special effects.
I feel the Pre-Code era trappings were absolutely needed in this version to get the message across.
Watching this next to the 1941 film makes it obvious how much was left out due to the Hays Code. Also, I feel the production design in the 1941 film had a little too much grandeur, I think. This version had not only some grandeur in its sets, but a genuine rawness to it, mainly in the foggy London backstreets.

though the current dvd from the Warner Archive Collection is referred to as "restored" it still isn't complete film which
opened Dec. 1931.
It's beautiful....its ....honest.
Hmm...I never knew about this version of the movie. Not sure why. I knew that there was a 1920 silent movie version. But the only other version I have seen on TV is the 1941 Spencer Tracy version. I will try to find this Frederic March version.😎
Warner Archives recently released this version on Blu-ray. Years ago, both this and the 1941 version were released by Warner Bros. on standard DVD (both films on the same disc).

This reminds me allot of Amber Heard’s testimony that I had to look it up to refresh my memory. Very vivid. The trial has not concluded as yet but her testimony is damming. And millions and millions think her trash and support the beloved docto.. er actor. Very interesting. Drugs and alcohol. We’ve all seen happy drunks. We’ve all seen mean drunks. Interesting to see this play out.
