The producer who made Ray record the radio version of this song deserves a medal. It really shows how producing a song can change it. The hit version of this is so uplifting with the horns and soul. This version what somewhat nice never would have done mainstream
I am also a new Ray fan from Australia. I have bought all three albums in the last two weeks, and love every minute of what I hear. One of the best voices I have ever heard. I am kind of disappointed that I didn't hear of him before. Aussie radio and other media gave us rubbish like Nikkelback and Eminem instead. Ah well, I have heard it now, and love it forever. Love this version of this brilliant song.
I was at this show. I'm so glad you got this. I can't even listen to the LP version anymore. I remember feeling how dare the studio stifle his creativity. This version is far better than the commercial version.

I somehow had a recording of this version of the track YEARS ago on a 3rd or 4th gen iPod,, before the poppy version even came out, and it literally broke my heart when I couldn't find it again later. This version is why I fell in love with Ray's music. It's intimate, and real, and relatable. Raw even. The popular version sounds like just another manufactured money maker, and, in my humble opinion, takes away from the wondrous gift of songwriting and performing that this guy has.
I saw him perform this at Beacon Theatre last night. Absolutely beautiful. I wish it was a bonus track on the album ... hopefully he'll do an additional recording this way in the future.

It's such a shame that this song carries a negative tone for Ray. This is the song that brought my now fiancee and I together. The first time I heard it I emailed her the lyrics and told her this is exactly how I felt and our wedding is in 90 days. Ray is a HUGE part of our relationship.
Fantastic! I'm not sure what video device you used or where your seats were but the video quality is excellent. I tried capturing some video at the Philadelphia show but didn't have as much success. Needless to say, Ray was phenomenal. Thanks for sharing.

That's an amazing example of versatility. Crap... were it not for the lyrics, I completely wouldn't recognize the song! Both versions are awesome though. The album version has a sweet Marvin Gaye sorta vibe about it.
