    Always agreed the Showman was used for some of his best sounds. There’s generally less info on him using it, great video!

    I think that John has some pretty underrated clean tones.👌

    The drip edge silver face was only made for one year until 69 and was almost identical to the black face, same circuit, hand wired, same tubes.

    Just acquired a 100watt dual showman from the early 70s needs a couple things but I’ll have it up and running in no time 😎 can’t wait

    I'm sure someone else has mentioned this, but just in case...the silver panel drip edge amps were only produced in 1968, and 1969. The aluminum trim was dropped in 1970. Drip edge aluminum trim amps are 99% identical to their black panel predecessors. The biggest tonal difference between his showman and dual showman will be the different output transformers. The showman has an 8 ohm, and the dual a 4 ohm.

    I never knew he had used it for Scar Tissue as well, I always just thought it went hand in hand with the White Falcon.
    I'm pretty sure I remember reading a lot that he used a Boss DS-1 live with the Fender rig for the Otherside solo.

    He had the Showman absolutely rocking last night in Perth. Just insane tone all night.

      John doesn’t use the Showman anymore!

    the silver outline around the grill means its a drip edge.. aka, same circuit as blackface.

      btw - a dual showman is basically a fender twin in a head cabinet instead of a combo. I think thats particular to the 100W versions starting in 70 though. not sure.

    • @gregmize01
      @gregmize01 ปีที่แล้ว

      it IS a blackface. you're thinking of the 68 silverface amps with the drip edge trim around the grills.

    • @elmerfudd743

      @@gregmize01 sorry, I was referring to the showman John was using live. not the one he had in the studio.

  • @CraigPaddockmusic

    That’s a drip edge Silver face from 68’, which is exactly the same as a black face circuit

      Not all drip edge fenders have the blackface circuit, but if it's a "blackline" drip edge it's almost certainly a repackaged blackface

    great video Justin!! i wanted to ask if u know what happened to John's amps in this live concert of the band back in 2003, it seems like his distorsión pedal is only hooked up to one amp and it's sounds really weird, it would be cool if you or someone can explain what happened :)
    u can really tell in the scar tissue solos and if you have to ask solo

    Awesome ! What would be the equivalent of the Showman nowadays without spending a ton of money ?

    • @JustinJeske
      @JustinJeske  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If a Showman is what you are looking for I'd just try and find one of those. You can grab them for around $1350 on average it looks like. From what I know the Bandmaster is in a very similar realm to the Showman, just without as much headroom and the middle control on the Vibrato channel and those can be found for less. So that's another option for that BF sound.

      @@JustinJeskeElectronically, a twin would be the closest relative of a showman...at 40 watts, the bandmaster doesn't even make half the power of a showman or twin, and it has a voice all its own which to me isn't better or worse just different
