GERMANY: Surprising survey on the 2025 federal election - Weidel and the AFD continue to soar
With 40 days to go until the general election, a surprising picture emerges: according to Janina Mütze from the opinion research institute Civey, the AfD is leading in terms of campaign presence - especially among young voters. Its strength on social media makes it the most convincing campaign party for many so far. Friedrich Merz is still perceived as the most present top candidate, closely followed by Alice Weidel, whose polarizing statements generate attention. In terms of popularity, however, Robert Habeck is ahead. Despite everything, Mütze warns that the election campaign is not yet in full swing.
