INKEN BALLER (1942, in Tønder, Denmark) is an architect who lives and works in Berlin. She studied at the Technical University of Berlin.
During a joint creative phase with Hinrich Baller, she ran an architectural practice in Berlin. From 1966 to 1989, they realised a large number of projects, especially in the context of social housing, which still characterise the cityscape of (West) Berlin today. Their buildings are characterised by a striking design language and technically innovative solutions. Curved balcony lines, oxidised copper, sharp corners, oblique angles, deep windows and rooms that open out onto greenery. Baller's architecture is independent and does not follow any contemporary mainstream. It is reminiscent of Art Nouveau or organic architecture, but relies more heavily on modern constructions such as concrete, steel and glass.
After the office partnership with Hinrich, Inken successfully continued her work as an architect. For example, she created the co-operative project „Weiberwirtschaft“.
From 1985, she was a visiting professor and from 1989 a full professor at the Gesamthochschule Kassel. From 1996 to 2007, she held the Chair of Design and Building in Existing Contexts at the BTU in Cottbus, where she was also Vice President for Teaching. In addition to the projects she has built, her more than two decades of teaching, her commitment as Vice President and her numerous advisory activities have provided a platform to participate in the transformation of current built and perceived architecture.
In 2023, Inken and Hinrich Baller were honoured with the BDA Grand Prize for their joint work.

INKEN BALLER (1942, in Tøndern, Dänemark) ist eine Architektin mit Wohnsitz und Wirkungsschwerpunkt in Berlin. Sie studierte an der Technischen Universität Berlin.
In einer Gemeinsame Schaffensphase mit Hinrich Baller führte sie ein Architekturbüro in Berlin. Von 1966 bis 1989 realisierten sie eine Vielzahl an Projekten, vor allem im Kontext des sozialen Wohnungsbaus, die bis heute das Stadtbild (West-)Berlins prägen. Ihre Bauten heben sich durch eine auffällige Formensprache und technisch innovative Lösungen ab. Aufschwingende Balkonlinien, oxidierter Kupfer, spitze Ecken, schiefe Winkel, tiefe Fenster und Räume, die sich ins Grüne hin öffnen. Ballers Architektur ist eigenständig und folgt keiner zeitgenössischen Hauptströmung. Sie erinnert in Zügen an den Jugendstil oder die Organische Architektur, stützt sich aber verstärkt auf moderne Konstruktionen, wie Beton, Stahl und Glas.
Nach der Bürogemeinschaft mit Hinrich setzt Inken ihrer Architektentätigkeit erfolgreich fort. So entstand beispielsweise das Genossenschaftsprojekt „Weiberwirtschaft“.
Ab 1985 war sie Gastprofessorin, ab 1989 ordentliche Professorin an der Gesamthochschule Kassel. Von 1996 bis 2007 hielt sie den Lehrstuhl für Entwerfen und Bauen im Bestand an der BTU in Cottbus, dort war sie auch als Vizepräsidentin für Lehre tätig. Neben den von ihr gebauten Projekten, haben ihre mehr als zwei Jahrzehnte währender Lehrtätigkeit sowie ihr Engagement als Vizepräsidentin und ihre zahlreichen beratenden Tätigkeiten, eine Plattform geboten, um an der Transformation der aktuellen gebauten und wahrgenommenen Architektur teilzuhaben.
Im Jahr 2023 wurden Inken und Hinrich Baller für ihr gemeinsames Werk mit dem Großen BDA-Preis ausgezeichnet.
