  • Dean Winston was sentenced to life in 2014 for the murder of Mohamed Abdullahi.
    His co-defendant Kyle Sober-Froud admitted to causing the fatal stab wound that killed Mohamed, but Dean was also sentenced to life under the ‘guilty by association’ joint enterprise law - and received a longer sentence than the man who admitted murder.
    Dean’s Mum Bee argues that he’s not a murderer.
    Guilty Bystander explores the dramatic stories of people convicted under joint enterprise law. Some were charged with a crime they were not present for, or even knew was going to happen.

    He instigated it. They wouldn’t have been there to attack the victim if he hadn’t got his 2 ‘mates’ to get in a taxi and cruise for someone to attack. Someone died and it was at his instigation. He may not have wanted the result, but he started the ball rolling and has to face the consequences.

    Your son and his friends and left their homes with weapons with the intent to harm someone. This led to this young man's death and your son and his friends are absolutely jointly responsible for what took place.

    I have seen almost all of these channel 4 documentaries on joint enterprise - and have talked about how it is prejudicial and often unfair and results in gross miscarriages of justice.
    THIS IS NOT THE CASE HERE.
    This man took 2 of his mates and went on a glide. They had knives and were out for blood. They found a RANDOM person and went to kill him.
    I do not believe for one second that Dean Winston was surprised by the knife his friend had, they were armed for what other reason than a killing?
    Almost every word that came out of the mother's mouth was chilling to me. She would have defended him even if she saw him do it with her own 2 eyes. She needs to take responsibility. What was your son in to that people let off shots at the house? Of course he wanted it back in blood, he played a stupid game and won a stupid prize.
    Dean Winston is a victim of nothing other than an irresponsible mother and his own stupidity.
    I'm glad he's off the streets. I'm North London born and raised, it could've been me he just decided to kill. Or one of my brothers.
    Let him rot.

    “Tell them I’m coming for them.” She said that far too casually, like this wasn’t the first time she heard him say something that provocative and potentially very dangerous. I’m sorry but when you go TO them, you have no reason to whine.
    It never just “all goes wrong” They should both be thankful that he’s alive at least and off the streets.
    Clearly this guy has some serious impulse control and anger management issues. And I’m pretty sure he didn’t ask 12 before he went off with the other two. Why they think shared responsibility is unfair or that “only ten” line makes their argument valid is beyond me.

      It's the perfect sentence for a violent person who would of inflicted more pain and suffering not only for his own family but other potential victims. He will think twice about his actions in the future and you hope it will deter others from this sort of life because it's getting out of hand and there isn't enough self accountability until after the damage is done.

    • @wordsound420
      @wordsound420 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Don Doodat no. He beat a boy up who he didn't even think had done it. He was involved in that life or why else would his house get shot up? And he was there while his friend murdered somebody after he had kicked the shit out of him, it not like he is an innocent person who happened to be walking past and people like this need making an example of because it's getting out of hand.

    • @wordsound420
      @wordsound420 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Don Doodat but beat someone up then stand by while your friend stabs them to death and then not go to the police and tell them what he did, you can't just compare it to pissheads fighting which I think should be taken more seriously btw. Yeah I completely think he deserved the sentence.

    I kinda clicked onto this expecting there to have been an undeniably obvious miscarriage of justice which would be an absolute travesty, but instead this woman is sitting there casually recounting her dear son's immoral actions. Why do you think he was carrying a weapon? He didn't decide to take it out for a nice walk in the moonlight just because. There was clearly intent to do great harm and if he himself couldn't put two and two together that he could cause significant risk to life by wielding that weapon, then we're back to square one- he wasn't raised to understand the consequences of his actions. I always remember my mum's words when I was little. She said she was harsh on me because she was my parent and there are some conversations that are so uncomfortable that others didn't want the hassle of having them with me and it was up to her to raise me with an understanding of my impact in society. I am forever grateful that I wasn't raised by someone like this woman who confuses loving her son with holding him accountable and being able to follow the law.

    Yes he instigated it, and deserves to be punished as the true murderer was, however, it seems crazy to me that the one who admitted it got less time? I understand it’s because he came forward and the jury found the other two guilty but how can that work? Where the person who really took the life gets less time than the ones who didn’t

    • @thekidd7
      @thekidd7 ปีที่แล้ว

      What's hard to understand? They all got the same sentence, however you get credit for an early guilty plea. Winston went pled not guilty, got found guilty and received the full tariff.
      Furthermore, the judge found he could not say who inflicted the killing blow with certainty.
      On top of that Winston's sentence was reduced on appeal to less than Sober-Froud's so the whole narrative 'he got more time' is actually false.
