- An estimated 60 million-plus North Americans have a disability impacting their ability to travel. Furthermore, in some cases, such disabilities may limit a person’s ability to travel at all. I just spoke to Bob on the phone this morning about a trip with my father who is in need of wheelchair access from Oregon to Washington D.C. for the Veterans Honor Flight. Bob was happy to help and had so many great tips. I am feeling much more confident in my ability to support my Dad. Thank you so much for this video!!

I learned a really important disabled travelers, Always keep a handbag on your person, with all of your medicines and other medical items you'll need in the next 24-hours. My flight got held overnight due to thunderstorms, and they didn't give us our luggage, So I was stranded overnight in Salt Lake City with barely enough medicine and urology supplies to make it through the night.

I never knew someone would know how to deal with this wheelchair thing. We're leaving on April 30 (2023) on Allure of the Seas for 7 days to Roatan, Costa Maya, and Cozumel. Unfortunately, my wheelchair doesn't fold and I literally have nothing I can do on excursions. We couldn't go on any through Royal and we don't know enough (or trust enough) to go off on our own. So, we're planning dock days and then hanging out on the ship. I will look for a travel agent next time. Thank you.
Hi Charlayne have you spoken with Royal Caribbean about your wheelchair. They are excellent with folks with mobility issues. It may not seem that way when your speak with their call center but as long as they know the onboard folks will be there to help you. You will have a great time on Allure we have sailed her in the past. Soooo Much to see and do you won't have to get off to have a great time.
Did you try the accessibility desk at Royal Carribean? Im told they can help you get accessible excursions.
@@pattyinsoflo5431 Yes, I did. Because of the design of my wheelchair, I can't get it onto any of the buses. It's just simple. We've talked renting one next time out, maybe I can get it to work. My husband can't push a manual and I can't either. But we've wanted to to excursions since our first sail last year.
@@askarealtravelexpert We had a blast. The excursions just weren't accessible for me, even with their help. The wheelchair is heavy (350 lbs) and fixed position, it doesn't fold. But we went into the port areas and had a great time. We loved the Allure of the Seas. :)
The point about fear of heights is not so cut and dry. My husband has a pretty hard fear of heights while he IS a pilot of a paraglider, which is not bothering him at all. Also, flying with a balloon doesn't bother him. I heard that many pilots have fear of height: It is something very different than flying.
Would it be that flying a balloon or paraglider he has a sense of control hence no fear.
Bob S. In the case of the people wanting to vacation in Greece Santorini were you able to find them accommodations? It would be my dream to visit Santorini but I know there are major challenges

I’m looking for same thing. I want to take a Mediterranean cruise. Living in Ireland. Husband is an amputee. I have spinal stenosis and can’t walk for long distances. Do they have any special ones for us. Thanks

Generally disabled people prefer to be called that and have it referred to as a disability, rather than calling it a handicap which is outdated

I would add to that, don't say "wheelchair bound". The term is wheelchair user.
Ships have flush toilets trains and planes do not even Dover Calais ferry haddpotties
