    Just wanna say thankyou.Im not sure what video it was but you mentioned that in interviews its important to know the diff between the degree that youre attaining.And I kid you not!!! that was a question at my Accelerated nursing program and I knew one of the interviewers before I got interviewed by accident and she told me that the sessions were horrible but I found myself overprepared because those questions were expected.Anyways.I start August 2019!!!!!!!Im super excited!!its my first step to a professional degree.Your advice was heard and it helped me and I wanna say thanks youre awesome!

    Hi James, just found your channel and wanted to thank you for all the helpful tips. I always wanted to pursue a career in medicine (currently working in an outpatient clinical setting), and was discouraged for a few years due to poor academic performance the first two years of college. Long story short, I took some time off to reevaluate my life and goals, got back on track, and decided to pursue a PA career. I'm hoping to apply for the 2020 or 2021 year (still have to take the GRE). Anyway, thanks for tips!

    Question: Do schools call for an interview and get accepted before the application cycle ends??
    I'm glad I came across your video! I feel like the only thing I'm concerned of is the interview process. One more year till I get my Bachelor's degree!!

    In your opinion, what do you think stands out the most on an application to a pa program? What particular thing would catch the eye of the interviewer/instructor?

    • @JamesKim
      @JamesKim  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Connor! Sorry for the late reply! You know it's really difficult to say because each program looks at your application differently with some emphasizing community service, strong academics, PCE, or all the above. I think the best thing you can do to stand out is to write a great personal statement tying all your experiences, academics, and service together. From my experience, I would say PA admission committees really do look for well-rounded candidates for their programs. Let me know if you have any other questions!

    I am so nervous and excited at the same time. However, I have a feeling that I may need to wait like two more years before I can apply since I haven't really work with patient. I will steal your answer, "I am dependable, passionate, and hard working" because it is also perfect for me. I hope you don't mind. I have two kids and it's going to be crazy trying to do 4 last classes in the Summer. I will watch this video again soon. Thank You,

      @JamesKim  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You got this. Just keep working hard, see the bigger picture, and stay positive!

    • @82hectic
      @82hectic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The hardest thing to do is staying positive when you haven't seen the end product. It is like if the grass is ever greener on the other side. My study have been a journey and psychology have taught me more than physics lol. Classes start in a week and I am trying hard to enjoy it doing basically brainless things. Soon I have to learn how to self motivate without seeing grades from professors and grade myself. I was studying for the MCAT with my degree, but I am going to settle for a PA program and hope that I get in. Thank you,

    • @JamesKim
      @JamesKim  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can look back and see how far you've come and appreciate that. You shouldn't settle for PA as well. If you want to go to medical school, you can if you work hard enough!

    • @82hectic
      @82hectic 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I made up my mind after watching some of your videos. I saw a few more videos from other people, but they are not as exciting as yours. Don't change my mind lol. Again I am too old haha. I don't have the time, and money to waste plus I want to do everything until I am happy doing what I want to do. I am aggressive sometimes, but I am also sweet sometimes so I love babies. They are the easiest because they are innocent. I am also cra cra so I was thinking about working with psycho people as a psychiatrist. I been BS on FB, but I will read those books soon. Those books are human behavior, abnormally, victimology, and psychopharmacology. Would you like to help? 🙏🏼🤣😬
      It is spread out within summer 1 and 2 haha.
      Also, I don't know how I did Biochem and calculus 2 in the summers, but I did. So this psychology stuff should be kind of ok. People brain functions differently. I am so tired already just thinking about it. I don't even remember half of the stuff I studied. I probably have to retake human anatomy because it's been a while. Thank you for cheering me on.

    I had an interview a couple days ago. I felt so unprepared I answered the questions as honest and as real as i could but they didn't accept me. Are they looking for health care related answers? Any suggestions on improving how to interview.

    • @JamesKim
      @JamesKim  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Alejandro, they definitely look for a good mix of health care and personal responses (in my opinion). I would definitely focus on talking about your strengths but also don't be afraid to address weaknesses and how you have/are improving them!

    • @alejandro1991ify
      @alejandro1991ify 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      James Kim During my MMI I felt other applicants were rehearsed. Is that what schools are wanting to hear?

    • @JamesKim
      @JamesKim  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don't want to sound rehearsed but you definitely want to practice out loud beforehand to potential questions. The more you practice, the less rehearsed you actually will sound!

    Hi! I am currently a freshman in college and I was just wondering how you got in all your hours in before applying. Also, what gpa is a solid to have for applying? thanks so much!

    • @JamesKim
      @JamesKim  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Gloria! I was a physical therapy aide volunteer during college and also worked full time after graduation. I would say a 3.5 is solid to have!

    • @gloriam9433
      @gloriam9433 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      also, I was totally unaware at how old people were they they applied. I am currently an EMT and have about 500 hours and that will continue to grow as I stay at my university. if I meet the 2000 hours would applying when I graduate be allowed or not recommended?

    • @JamesKim
      @JamesKim  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes as long as you have taken the pre-reqs and meet the requirements, you can apply!

    Its soo helpful for me. Thanks
    what do you chose for your undergrad degree. I am a high school student and want to do this course.
    can I at some point in life upgrade my self from PA TO MD?

    • @JamesKim
      @JamesKim  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello :) thanks for watching the videos! I was a biology and psychology double major in undergrad. There are a few programs for PAs to become MDs in 3 years but it's not very common to go the PA route to become an MD. If your end goal is to become a MD, I highly recommend just applying to MD school and not PA school! If PA is your end goal, I recommend just applying to PA school. It's not worth it to have all the student loans for both PA and MD combined! Good luck and stay positive :)

    what if they ask you this. why do you choose pa and not Dr?

    • @JamesKim
      @JamesKim  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Sorry for the late reply. I go over this question in my 2nd part of Most Common Interview Questions video on my channel! But what schools really look for when they ask you this question is that you have weighed out your options and you've experienced shadowing a doctor and truly know that the PA route is what you're looking for. Things like longevity as a health care professional by being able to switch specialties and not being burnt out by being stuck in one specialty. Also, you must be okay with not having the title of "Doctor" even though you may have similar responsibilities. Hope that helps :)

    • @JamesKim
      @JamesKim  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But everyone has their own answers as to why they chose PA over MD, just need to get out there and experience it to find yours :)
