Mine is doing AMAZING!!!! She has settled in and pushed out 2 new leaves in the short time since she got here! Thanks again!!! - Amanda (Day 172 sober)
Wahoooooo!!! 🥳🎉🥳 And glad Jennifer is doing so well already. You're doing something right (in both cases). Best advice I was ever given: keep doing whatever THAT is😀
Hmm I think you probably ask to much with your question. But here I go...I do adore the look of my Hoya parasitica splash because I had to rescue it when it first came home and now it's looking so much better. ❤ But the one I love the most surprising would likely be my hoya carnosa. It was my first hoya I ever bought, and it grows so well for me, and gives me bigger leaves than it's predecessor (which not to say I'm a born competitive person, but it feels good 😅) and rewards me with little splashes on its leaves now that it never had on its previous leaves like little poppy freckles. So cute and random.
SUPER late to the party here, but will you have some Jennifer babies available in the Spring? I'm your next door neighbor in Nebraska and these freezing mid-west winters are a no-no for ordering anything live and as lovely as your Jennifers! Love your videos and your sense of humor is what makes your videos SOOO fun to watch! Thank you!
Hey Dave, greetings from KC. Always enjoy your videos, hoyas are my favorite. I find you videos very relaxing and low key, sometimes people put to much loud music in their videos, it's rather distracting for me but hey, I'm a older lady. 😂 Keep up the good work.
Love your Hoya Jennifers! Such amazing growth! Looking forward to your plant care video, I know it’ll be excellent. As always, I enjoyed this video very much. Have a great week! 👌🪴🥰
Ok , I must have watched this video countless time before i ordered my H. Jennifer. I also ordered one that’s crossed with H. Jennifer x Estrelaensis ( RHM-1307). I can’t wait to grow these two Hoyas out just to smell the flowers.
I recently discovered your TH-cam videos, they are well paced and very informative.. I am also a sober person (24yrs) and a new Hoya lover. (I will not watch the martini man again). A little suggestion: I use chopsticks for staking small plants and poking holes in soil for cuttings. They are cheap, reusable, eco friendly and can be cleaned easily if you get the polished bamboo ones.
"With a tasty beverage at hand....) It's funny you mention the chopsticks. My wife just gave me some for one that was leaning a bit left. Good suggestion, thank you!
I wanted all the hoyas I know of with feminine names - Patricia, Noelle, Bella, Mathilde, Dee's Big One, India, Irina, Kerrii, etc. but Jennifer... I tried 3 xs. I gave up. Yours are so robust! Thanks for sharing👍🏽Dee, NY
My Bella is doing great now, but of your list that's the one I had an epic struggle with. I'm so glad to see India on your list. I thought I was literally the *only* one 😁
Well that would have been good info for the video 🤣Yes, I do keep that substrate moist for quite a while. Like until she's firmly rooted in. Thank you for the compliment, btw!
I personally use bobby pins as plant pins to keep cutting in soil. Super cheap. I just bend them out so they don't pinch the plant. I had no idea you could buy plant specific pins! I have my Crimson Queen Hoya in simi hydro (pon). I never let it get completely dry and my hoya is constantly putting out new leaves. Constantly. I wonder how many people who have hoya troubles are having issues because they let them dry out or don't fertilize enough.
All of them, maybe 🤣 I tried the bobby pins, my only problem was that my clumsy fingers couldn't undo them very well. But they certainly work well, agreed!
What do people mean when they say that krohniana (sp?) smells like old lady? Like...vintage perfume? I LOVE vintage perfume. I wonder which one this smells like.
@@soberplantguy In the fragrance community we politely call those "vintage fragrances." Or saying that it would "suit a woman who bought "The Bank of England." I haven't figured out the second label but it's funny so I'll continue to use it. And yes, I love the "Bank of England" scents at my age!
Im happy with any scent that isn’t like sour/rotten. As long as it doesn’t make me look all over for something that needs to be cleaned up only to find out that it is a bloom Im pretty happy 🌸
@@debh3404 Consider "Bank of England" officially stolen 😁 Anything good that I carried from childhood to adulthood came from my grandmother and great-grandmother, so vintage perfume is a really lovely, nostalgic thing for me 🥰
@@soberplantguy Right?! Scent memories are the strongest memories in my opinion. I've taught my husband to appreciate good perfume (yes, it's still called perfume if it's made for men) and to find the particular notes with his nose. He said that he's enjoying experiencing life through his sense of smell. Something that he never paid attention to before. Do you have any idea which perfumes your grandmother or great grandmother wore? Yes, I have a serious fragrance addiction.
Hi, Dave. I just subscribed to your wonderful channel. Your substrate, is coco coir same as coco peat? How often do you water your hoyas in this substrate? Thanks.
Correct, exactly the same thing. It works out for me that I water the plants outside of the tent roughly weekly. Based on size of the plant, size of the pot, and ratio of mix, where they are in relation to window--that's just how it works out. The tent is getting watered a little more often, as it has gotten quite a lot warmer here in Iowa (and a LOT warmer in the tent). Cheers ☺
That can vary quite, quite widely. Leaf shape, speed of growth, general vigor, veins, etc. I'm pretty settled on that one specific plant that was flowering 😊
OK, hoya expert.I had a gigantic hoya plant for more than 20 years. Everyone I gave a cutting to got blossoms on their plants. l never ever had a blossom on the parent plant. Please explain.
That'd be hard to give a definitive answer to. I certainly have had many experiences where the cutting grow even better than the mother plant... But light is usually my first guess. While not every single Hoya wants more of it, carnosa does, in my experience. If you are giving it ample light, food is the next thought, and the next thought is..... I'm not really sure 🤣 But, I would be comparing notes with your friends/family.
Thank you for sharing I learned a lot from this video, I purchased a full long plant of Jennifer and I recieved it beautiful but most of the leafs are very soft, do I have a chance to rescue her ? I’m afraid to loose all the leafs
Hey, there! Unless, somehow, all of those leaves are very young, I'd be quite concerned about the root system. Limp leaves on 'Jennifer' would be very unusual, to say the least. Take a look at those roots and see what you're dealing with. If you do have to chop and prop, I'll note that the flowering plant you saw was from exactly this scenario, and has proven to be the best of the best. Cheers from Iowa City!
When I'm paying attention, it's roughly 1/3 each, though it's easy to grab more of the chunks and I end up with a mix that dries out quickly 🙃 I can imagine a lot of people wanting more coco coir in their mix, but I'm a huge fan of watering plants ....
So many Jennifers! I like clear plastic pots in cover pots for peeking at roots all the time! Otherwise also not afraid to look at roots, it just gets so messy Define conventional wisdom? People who underwater plants/cuttings and then say they are slow growing? Or cuttings in ambient conditions without growlights (which also works but can also be slow). If it works well for you, or even better than the “conventional wisdom” then that is your way to go! I do love a beautiful callistophylla, but a great one most can grow… obovata or compacta are my go too favs!
