    Not going to lie, I probably take care of the customer’s car better than my own! 😂 but I loved the video! I can definitely relate when I do the oil changes on the TRD Pro trucks for toyota. They come with a heavy splash guard that can be a pain to remove. There are ways to get the filter and drain plug out. And of course I take my time so I don’t spend twice as much time cleaning a mess or having a come back for some oil that was never cleaned. Keep up the videos!!

    I'm interested in this new "narration style' of video editing. Is this permanent, or temporary because of shop regs for recording?
    Also, great video on how to do clean jobs, this should be made into a mandatory watch list series for all new lube techs. :)

    Hey boss, I really enjoy your helpful tips with Ford products. I am currently in the process of installing a steering wheel with cruise on a 2011 Ford Crown Vic and was wondering what the most cost efficient way of reflashing the PCM to enable CC is? Dealer wants to charge me 150 for it but I don't know if there's a better way to go about it. I appreciate you taking the time to answer. I'm glad we all have a perspective into what happens behind the curtains of a dealership service shop. Thanks again!

    • @TsunauticusIV
      @TsunauticusIV 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      For only $150... let the dealer do it. You try to do it yourself and mess something up... you could be up the creek. The dealer at least would/should stand behind the work if they do it.

    • @Chriz218
      @Chriz218 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TsunauticusIV Thank you! That's what I was thinking too. Not a bad deal in case they do mess something up, the liability would rest on them.

    • @TsunauticusIV
      @TsunauticusIV 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Chriz218 yeah. Plus... if the topic ever comes up(if you resell the vehicle) you have more leverage when disclosing how that type of work was done. Buyers typically like to hear the work was done by the dealer rather than in Ed’s tool shed. 😂 Idk for the price... probably just better to let the dealer do it. If it was several hundred or thousands... then yeah I’d suggest trying other options. If you try flashing yourself, or have someone else do it, and you lose your pcm... then you’re out the money you paid and you also need to drop a few hundred on a new pcm. So yeah... probably just let the dealer handle it tbh. There may be some other, cheaper and safe, options available tho. Hopefully others will chime in if they have any suggestions. Cheers bud

    I use a Solo cup to catch the oil from the filter. I cut off about 1” of the cup and it fits nicely under the filter. You need to empty the cup once during the drain. Just tighten the filter slightly, dump the cup and repeat. I let it drain a few minutes and don’t spill a drop.

When I worked at a dealer we got .2 hour for an oil change only way to make any money was to sell unnecessary break jobs and front end work anything that wasn’t warranty work as that paid crap as well I quit in less than a month and went back to an independent shop where they paid hourly wage and we did quality honest work

    How much do you get for an oil change in your shop? Retired dealership tech here, last Ford store I worked at we got 0.3 for LOF, that's 18 minutes of pay for the laymen out there, 0.4 if they want tires rotated. So that's 18 minutes from the time they hand you the ticket until you hand it back when finished or else you're losing money. I don't wait for a filter to drip dry, stick a funnel up there, hold it in place and remove the filter and be done with it.

      But I'm one of the master techs in the shop, I don't change oil and when I do I make sure it's clean and I do it very nice to the point where I'm being conscious of what I'm doing without rushing

    Most people don't do this so slow because they only get so much time for a job. It would take half a day to do a B service on a Class 8 Mack when they have 3 oil filters and 1 fuel filter and your allowed 1 hours to get it done.

    Radom question. Today I was off-roading in elevation of 8,500-9000 ft on my 2016 Ford F-150 5.0 4wd FX4 trim and I happened to notice my transmission temp ranging from 210-223 without having anything attached/towing. • @FordBossMe

      @@FordBossMe Obviously every vehicle is different and I don't just drain the oil on the floor or all over a skid plate. If I can let it flow into the funnel tray that's what I do. I too treat customer's cars like they're mine even as a lube tech at Toyota decades ago and learned the quickest most efficient way from them having a 30 minute guarantee and me having six people waiting when I showed up to work. I'm with you on the brake cleaner too.

      No it's not all of that should be cleaned off and should be nothing on the skid plate or in the drain pan

      Oil filter is easy, draining the oil can be a bit more messy.
      After my first change I went off roading. After a particularly steep section I saw some oil dripping from the nether regions of my Raptor. I Freeked for 1/2 second then realized it was from a sloppy job I did on my first oil change.
      Installed a Fumoto drain valve and an aluminum trough...no more mess.

      @@Nick-bp7jf you can prime the oil filter on that one by holding the throttle pedal down while you're cranking the vehicle with the key and it will circulate and pull oil back up through the pump and then when you're done drinking for a few seconds you could start the vehicle
