YES, YOU'RE RIGHT IT'S NOT IN TAGALOG LANGUAGE. IT'S WRITTEN BY FELIP IN BISAYA HIS FIRST LANGUAGE. IT'S A VERY ANGRY SONG ABOUT LOST LOVE INTERPRETED IN RNB TONE AND MATCHED WITH SUBTLE EROTIC CHOREOGRAPHY. FELIP HAS PERSONAL UNEXPRESSED ANGER AND ANGST WHICH HE CHANNELS IN HIS SONGS AND CHOREOGRAPHY.

This is my favorite among all of Felip's songs, not only because it is in Bisaya, but also because I love the genre and his voice in this so much. I also love that the feeling being conveyed in the lyrics is full of contained anger, but delivered in a most sensual way. It really speaks of so much fed up emotions but yes, delivered in a kind of cool, threatening way, I agree. Ha ha. Felip is a brave soul when it comes to his compositions. He is not afraid to test the waters and find where he can bring his vocal abilities to. He is unapologetic about where his musicality brings him in terms of the type of melodic mood he goes into, but this makes his compositions even more interesting and captivating. He does not conform, but sinks his teeth into something he finds joy doing/creating. You get to experience every song he releases as something personal, like you get to connect with him on another level when you listen and watch him perform it. That's how I felt, at least. He is so intensely invested in every song he makes that you can't help but be invested in it as well, and learn to love it eventually, even if initially you may not get it yet. He has always expressed that music is his language. I believe he has nearly perfected this expression through his music. He is already great, but I cannot even imagine the breadth of what he can still do, given his vocal ability, passion and creativity.

Yes it is not Tagalog. It's Bisaya. Only a few artists can pull this kind of genre in our language without being cringey, not to mention that Bisaya crowds are hard to please when it comes to music or concerts. Felip is one of a kind.

For someone who doesn't know Tagalog, i was so surprised that you immediately noticed that the song was in another Philippine language. That only shows how keen your mind is. I always enjoy all your reactions because you are one of a few who really analyzes and feels the music. The others hardly say anything and just do it for clout.
Looking forward to more SB19 and individual member reactions. Thank you for always making my day.

Palayo means “away”. As a title, I think it’s the perfect word for the breakup themes in this song. There’s also an immediacy to the narration that I really like. It drops us right in the middle of a breakup fight as it’s happening.
I’m going to be a bit nerdy, now. Technically, I’m fairly sure Ken is speaking Cebuano. He’s mentioned that his family is from Cebu, or has lived in Cebu, and they speak Cebuano (although, his mom is Ilocano, from further up north).
Bisaya is, technically, an umbrella term for an entire group of languages spoken in the middle part (Visayas region) and the southern part (Mindanao region) of the country. Last I checked, there are over 30 Bisayan languages. And they’re actual real languages, not just dialects as most people think.
Cebuano is one of the many Bisaya languages. Of all the Bisaya languages Cebuano has the most speakers. I’ve read that they refer to the language and to themselves as Bisaya. This can cause confusion in people like me because my family, too, speaks one of the Bisaya languages (Hiligaynon) and we also consider ourselves part of the Bisaya/ Visayas region and culture. And yet I only understand maybe 1/4 or 1/3 of the song, without translation.
Putting aside linguistic details, I have to say that it’s so heart warming to hear a song like this, sung in another one of our major languages, and one that is somewhat familiar to me. It just adds an extra level of intimacy as if I were inside this breakup, eavesdropping on everything as it unfolded.

  • @rachellara9067

Palayo was sung in Bisaya, and it means run or run away. It is Ken's first language. There are about 120 t0 175 languages spoken in the Philippines and most of us don't understand the language of a given province or place. Our national languages are Filipino and English.

And I hope Felip watches this because this rv is thorough and this is the best feedback an artist like him needs to hear so that he can't doubt himself and he will continue on to create masterpieces.

Finally unblocked! Been waiting for this.
Felip really had a hand in just about everything here. You could watch his making series as well? He has a lot of insights plus it’s so fascinating watching him shift from Ken to his Felip persona then back again.
Bisaya is what we in the Visayas would call a warrior language, the widest spoken of the several hundred languages and dialects in our region. It’s highly charged, emotional, and sounds somewhat aggressive, the perfect choice for this kind of song.

Wow, you've got a great ear to be able to tell right away that he wasn't singing in Tagalog! He's a very proud Bisaya boy. ☺ Idk if you can hear it yet, but he also has a very distinct accent when he speaks Tagalog (as do some of the non-Tagalog members of Alamat, actually). I don't really have a bias in SB19 (it's too hard to pick just one of them!) but I listen to Felip's solo stuff the most. I love that he has such a specific vision for all of his releases - not just for the music, but also the visuals and atmosphere.

Wow, this review by Ms. Hurraira Jamal of Felip's Palayo is the review of all time so far. Palayo is a stamp of Felip's artistry & dominance among other fellow musical artists. He made the entire Music Video look perfect as to the way he sings, exhausting his vocal prowess, including the choreography, the visuals, the settings or location, the costumes worn, the concept, the music, etc. Such a masterpiece, indeed.
