As a musician who was once pursuing a secular music career I can 100% confidently tell you that the devil is real. The Bible tells us that satan is the prince of the power of the air waves (Ephesians 2:2). I remember I was busking (street performing) in Kennewick, Washington and I was living in my car and had just lost my job. I needed to cross the railroad tracks to get to go get more water for myself. As I approached the railroad tracks I remembered hearing legends of Robert Johnson known as the king of Blues music that he had sold his soul to the devil and became the best guitar player in his area and genre. I was curious and frustrated that my music career was going nowhere after working so hard to achieved what I thought I wanted. I was so close to cutting my hand and letting my blood spill onto the tracks and say out loud that I sold my soul to satan. Right before I did that though I looked up to the sky and said out loud, “God, if you’re real, show me a sign right now and I will NEVER sell my soul to the devil”. I walked across the tracks and this man comes out of a shop called Franchino’s Stone and Tile right there off of Kennewick Avenue and he offered me a job within a minute of talking to him. Keep in mind I was living in my car and had just lost my other job. In this moment I knew that the God of the Bible was real and that the devil is real and that every single person in Hollywood, musicians, actors, politicians, celebrities have all sold their souls and are apart of a undercover satanic club that we the children of God are not apart of. Hallelujah that Christ was so merciful to me while I was still on the streets a year later in Austin Texas and He blessed me with His presence and radically saved me and has guided me and sanctified me. Praise Christ forever and ever. Amen.

I also work around a lot of secular music , but since my deliverance , I honestly don’t even notice it anymore . I hear it , I’m not deaf to it , but I don’t really hear it , if that makes sense . Even songs I know , they don’t stick in my head , I don’t catch myself singing them, The desire is gone . It’s not even a battle , I believe God will cover your ears if it’s something that happens around you and you can’t “control” it. Praying for your husband ! There’s a difference between being around it and then deliberately listening and part taking . 🙏🏻

This is one of the battles I’m dealing with in my life as a Christian listening to second music I’m 42 years old but I don’t listen to none of the horrible music today. I listen to stuff from the 80s 90s early 2000s sometimes even the 60s and 70s, whether there is rock ‘n’ roll or alternative rock ormusic and some hip-hop I’m justifying. But it’s something that I’ve been struggling with for quite a while like there are months where I go without listening to secular music and then I go back.

@Wrcallofduty420 I struggle with secular music (more like EDM Tiesto, etc) when I workout. I don't listen to music during the day but when I workout I thrive on the high energy power of EMD. I understand the struggle of staying "clean" and then going back. I think what helps is when you actually read the lyrics and it really opens your eyes cuz' a lot of the songs that sound okay are really bad. For example read the lyrics the Beatles wrote for Strawberry Fields and it's all gibberish, nonsense and written by the devil. That is one of the most bizarre songs I've ever read. Check it out and be encouraged you are going on the right path! We know better and God has called us out as God knows we WANT to be closer to HIM. Think about this: God is calling us out of something so "basic" as secular music because he knows we want to get close to him so the Holy Spirit is convicting us because God is showing us the way and think about other people and how they think we're nuts for thinking this way and the reason they think we are crazy is because they are not desiring Jesus1 God bless you and be encouraged as you are doing very well!

secular doesn't mean "goes against God" it means, "denoting attitudes, activities, or other things that have no religious or spiritual basis. Contrasted with sacred" if its speaks "sin" yes it is wrong, if you're putting it before God yes its wrong but if its just talking about having fun not doing sinful stuff its ok.

I'm 54 and yeah, I used to listen to alot of metal and punk rock way back in the day, Along with other genres of rock, such as Alt Rock, progressive, and all kinds of other concept stuff and new wave and avant gard, industrial metal, synth metal, instrumental balads, etc, etc, but also though, I would actually switch to Techno and Electronica from time to time.
These days, my naturally favorite type of stuff tends to be anything instrumental. I tend to mostly prefer music that's without vocals. I am an Aspie(On the spectrum and simultaneously high functioning) so maybe that's what normally tends to happen to 50 something year old aspies. I've listened to a decent amount of Christian/Worship music. I have no problem with it if it's a specific genre. Not gonna lie though, I just cannot tolerate pop or likewise based music of any sort. Yes I have my natural biases. It is what it is. If I'm going to listen to Christian/Worship based music then it's basically going to Have to be either Christian Metal, or the contrary contrasting secondary preference would be Christian Country music, believe it or not. Quite a contrast there..!l
Like I stated though, I generally much prefer instrumental music. Classical, Symphonic, orchestra type stuff, like, what they often dub into alot of 1920's silent movies.
Also, I often enjoy Jazz music. I find it soothing. Soundscapes as well. Very meditative and peacefull. Alot of it sounds quite heavenly. Also, I tend to like hearing classic videogame instrumental music themes. They often have a profoundly feel good effect to them.

Short version: Way better than I had initially thought it'd be
      Detailed version:
I'm listening mostly to worship songs since I don't like human centered songs.
Honestly, big improvement, I'm actually surprised about that.
You see, I work really hard because I don't want to be seen as lazy by the Lord, but what ended up happening was that I wasn't spending time with him because I was working (literally working) for him, and when I'd have some extra time I'd either play video games with my wife or listen to music. Since 2 days ago I decided to uninstall games and use that time for God instead and honestly it is so weird to realize I did have time for God I'm just dumb lol. Also, not just listening to worship(and worshiping) but I also decided to read scripture. Just started to read the psalms since I've never read all the 150 of them, doing 10 chapters a day for now, and it is so refreshing. Like, you know, reading good things about God and praising him really is taking away the stress from day-to-day life and also debunking a bunch of very goofy thought processes I was developing lately.

I ask that you give Kale your heart so that he can feel your immense love and that you guide and light his path. Kale, we all have different types of addictions and struggles and sometimes certain things don’t go away but get easier to manage and over come. I pray for blessing and healing in your life in Jesus name, Amen. God bless you and loves you never forget that no matter how many times you stumble. Yes totally agree, I grew up with a huge passion for music and listening to hours of cd’s every day and being a musician myself, this was one of the hardest things to let go of even songs that seemed harmless like James Taylor or something like that still has a worldly spirit and influence, like you said when you listen and sing the songs you’re not strengthening your spirit man you’re actually draining your spirit, you only strengthen it with worship music, you can have that passion as long as it’s Godly, to give GOD the glory and honor hallelujah!

The Bible says we are not our own, we are bought with a price, therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 6:20
Anything in our lives that isn't glorifying God is against God and needs to be done away with. Whether it's music, how we dress, how we speak, how we interact with others.
