The "space" is like a metaphor for being disconnected from the world. It's basically talking about how quarantine isolated him from the world and even his wife (cuz she was aways for a couple months shooting The Matrix 4 in Germany while he was in LA) and so it's like he feels like he's in space and not Earth because of all the isolation from COVID

As the others said, it’s about quarantine and being separated from others. But the beginning is about the election as well. It’s really just 2020 in general in one song

You should react to "THIS IS HEAVEN" SNL performance (NICK's new single on his album that's releasing today. And then review the album later?

Also he wish that he can fly to be there with her but COVID restrictions won’t let them be together. Probably about early stages of COVID were more strict on travel.

Please , react to Mariah Carey - "you and I" live or "if it's over" (live at Grammy awards 1992)

UGHHH!!! Talk about a perfectly clueless couple who clearly did NOT get the point of Nick Jonas’ “Spaceman”.
Jonas was NOT a literal spaceman even though he was depicted as one in the music video. He was only a metaphorical spaceman. Although he keeps saying, “I feel LIKE a spaceman”, the clueless couple never once asked, “Why is Jonas saying that he feels like a spaceman?”
Clearly, he feels all alone like the character in the movie “The Martian”, but why is he forced to be alone?
Again, Jonas is only a metaphorical spaceman.
There BIGGEST CLUE in the lyrics is the first line of the second verse: “Mask off when I get home.”
    HINT! HINT!
Nick Jonas feels LIKE a spaceman because of all the stringent precautions he has to take - like wearing a mask - because of *THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC*.
Jonas was inspired to write this song while he was physically separated from his wife who was filming a movie in Europe at the outset of the Coronavirus pandemic.
The lyrics of his song also hint of the disconnectedness still felt from having to Skype or Zoom to reach out & stay in touch with loved ones.
If the clueless couple had turned on the [CC] Closed Captioning & actually paid attention to the lyrics on screen, they wouldn’t have made such distractingly irrelevant comments. Instead, they talked over the lyrics.
The repeated failures of the spaceman to launch represent the repeated failures of us all to escape the grip of the Coronavirus pandemic. The ending of the music video was deliberately left open-ended because the implied question - Will we all ever escape the clutches of the Coronavirus pandemic? - remains unresolved.
The repeated crash landings of the spaceman represent the repeated COVID spikes & outbreaks of the Coronavirus.
Yet, he’s “tryna get home” (i.e. to finally escape the Coronavirus pandemic).
Now, here’s A REAL SURPRISE: In the TH-cam search engine, type: “Spaceman Jonas lyrics official” & watch the official lyrics video. When the first line of the second verse starts - “Mask off when I get home” - look at the visual of the space helmet-like mask depicted on the screen.
Then, after watching the lyrics video, type in “Coronavirus helmet” in the TH-cam search engine & you’ll find some entries with a real-life Coronavirus-protection helmet which looks almost identical to the one depicted in the lyrics-video visual AND to the one worn by Jonas in the music video.
(I also interpret those floating globes seen in one graphic in the lyrics video NOT as planets BUT as Coronavirus germs.)
“The dark side of the Moon” refers to the metaphorically darkest days of the Coronavirus pandemic.
But, of course, all of this wax COMPLETELY lost on the clueless couple.
By the way, Nick Jonas has long-since revealed that the song was about the unending sense of isolation & loneliness felt during the Coronavirus pandemic.
I hope Nick Jonas’ “Spaceman” is nominated for the Grammy for the Best Song of the Year.
