My favorite of the alternatives I think are the triads since they have root, third and fifth. Followed by the power chords. The one about using the thumb sucks for someone like me since I have very small fingers lol. But in the end, very informative video man.

I known my barre chords for long now, I'm going to explore triad chords because I'm playing with 3 or 4 fellow guitarists at the same time (like a campfire), but when everyone's doing the same chord position, well we is fun for sure but sometimes it sounds "too full or too much" if you know what I mean. Another beautiful explanation with simple words! You definitely have a gift for being a teacher! Of course a lesson on Hybrid Picking level 101 and above would be nice, I think you can have a Hendrickx level, a mix between this tutorial and the hybrid. What do you think.

Great video man.. and you listened to my comment before about having diagrams.. They really help.. a really helpful video, I kinda struggle with Barre chords and try out the thumb over the top, I find it a bit hard to press down as my hands and wrists are smaller.. if you are trying to Jimi Hendrix style fills do you use just the 3 finger barre? I ask as it's hard to do with using all 4 fingers to barre plus not so much room in the frets.. great video.. Thanks again.. I look at other guitar channels by yours is the best and easier to learn without getting to complicated.
If your struggling with bar chords, your probably better off getting the rhythm down with power chords, then bar chords before worrying about the lead and fills
When you play a minor 7 bar chord with the root on the low and high E strings, you can bar that chord with just your thumb and index finger. It's much easier that way.
Yeah... It's really tough to get the hang of. Just keep chipping away and trying different angles, you may get it with some time. You kind of have to change your whole arm/hand position to get it.
7:20 - how are you "easily naming" these type of chords, please? I understand you saying you name the Power Chords using either the E or the A string but what is it that you do to name these triad types…?
I've tried emulating players like Hendrix and Frusciante like this as it allows them to have a nice mix of rhythm and fill licks, but it's always so difficult to get the space needed to move my other fingers around with the same efficiency. Makes meh sad 😢 Great videos though, hah!
It just comes with practice! The more hours you put in the quicker you'll get, and with that quickness you'll feel like you have a little more space/time. Thanks for watching the videos 😀
When you play the Power Chords, early on in the explanation, do you really ONLY play the two strings? It seems/sounds like you added a third or fourth string too🤔
This was all really interesting and useful, but I found just the idea of thinking about barre chords while playing triads (or other smaller chords) the most useful. I don't know why, but I remember that at one point I've been taught to play triads and other smaller chords without anyone mentioning that you can actually connect the shapes to barre chord shapes. This makes so much more sense. :D So thanks so much for this!
The more you learn about the guitar, the more you realize that literally every concept is connected. These connections are the key to unlocking real freedom on the instrument. Glad you found the video helpful :)

Hi Jason, the (brilliant) thumb trick is much easier to apply on my strat than on my single cut guitar because the strat has a thinner guitar neck.

Just one question: Do these bar chords you have shown somehow relate to the caged system? Or are these two separate concepts?
They totally tie together! These bar chords are basically covering the "E" letter from CAGED.
