    Chrome uses the WebExtensions API. Just like Opera, Edge and Firefox. Since a few days, Firefox only uses WebExtensions.
    So as long as you don't use browser specific features of the API you can code a single extension for all of them.

    I follow & like all your videos, but that you're promoting the "Girls vs git" extension disappoints me. Imagine a man going to a kindergarden and wants all the employee-pictures on the wall replaced with pictures of men, which is basically the same as the extension does. The outrage would be enormous.

    • @Aspectalice

    • @testebetabeta473

      I do not know If Daniel is aware of this...i think It is a trap

    • @matt0611
      @matt0611 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I believe the point of the extension is to highlight the issue that there are typically fewer women engaged in contributing to opensource projects on the web. "The actual goal is to present such a ridiculous "plugin" that people get frustrated and start a deeper discussion and argument about gender and open source." - from the projects README. So it's a good thing we're all willing to discuss it here.
      I have to disagree with the equivalence you're drawing in your example. I think it would be more akin to inviting everyone at the kindergarden to imagine all the photos of women to be replaced with men and asking them how that made them feel. You might actually start an interesting discussion about the role men are seen to play in providing care to children.

    There is nothing in my brain that needs rewiring regarding my perception of women on github! And frankly its offensive to me

    • @juschu85
      @juschu85 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When this offends you, you probably actually need some rewiring.
      Do you know German? At least the name could be German. The whole language is that way. Just the other way around. So german should offend you too. Unless you only think it's a problem when men are the victims.
      When you talk about software and the person who developed it you refer to him or her as the "Programmierer", which is the male form. At least as long as you don't know the gender, which is nearly always the case, you just act like "I mean it has to be a guy". There is no neutral form, which would make much more sense for a case where you don't know the gender. Of course, this is not just the case with developers. It's the case with any term which describes a certain person as long as it's not a job mostly made by a woman. Then you often have terms which specifically make clear, that it's a woman. Just like "God no! This job should never be done by a man."
      And when software is coded by multiple people, even if the majority of them is female, you still refer to them in the male form. In the plural, there still isn't a neutral form. Only when you know all of them are female you use the female form.
      There's is a completely sexist language, which everyone here is grown up with and we have to use it. Meanwhile, you are offended by a browser extension which you just don't have to use when you don't like it.
