Congratulations! Stay with it. Good course management is something you can apply every round, no matter how good or bad you're swinging the club that particular day.
Way of the Playa is the way to go. Been golfing for 28 years now and after watching you Matt I am playing the best golf of my life. Our golf season in Nova Scotia started the end of April and to date I have shot the following: 81, 81, 77, 80, 79, 84, 85, 78. You are an excellent teacher Matt and I find golf so much more fun deploying better game management. Thanks again bro!
I honestly love the short game. I think chipping is fun, and seeing it getting close and working on your shots to add spin or flopping to slow it down is a blast to learn.
short game is the best game. i put in about 4 to 1 in hours compared to the range and the course. not only fun, but allows for deep concentration with a big shag bag (about 6 dozen balls). it becomes almost like a meditation.
@@spartanical Sadly there aren't many short game areas near me that allow chipping. There is always putting. So I have been using the course when I am by myself to practice a chip or two around the holes while playing. That said, I am getting better chipping off matts at the range. I am especially working on chips that are 40-70 yards out. I feel fine right off the green, but the half-swing shots is what I am really working on now. Again, fun to learn and figure things out.
@@pandersonnike at the beginning of COVID when all the courses shut down, i bought a little 2x2 mat and went to the park. i would just chip there over and over into those chipping nets that you can lay down anywhere. it can also be done in a backyard or even in the house. and with Kirkland's high quality golf balls, you can get 4 dozen for less than $50.
@@pandersonnikeSame. All the putting greens and Chipping areas near me have shut down. So it's either facilities at a golf club (which are only for members usually) or the driving range. When realistically as someone getting back into golf after over 10 years, all I want to do is putt and chip for hours at a time.

Love your videos Matt. Broke into the 90s recently by adopting the “Way of the Playa” and now nearly into the 80s (hit a 90 a few rounds back). What got me into the 90s was thinking my way around the course. What I believe will get me into the 80s is GIOTG with my chipping. Losing most shots there now. Many thanks to our Playa in Chief! P.S. I have been following you for a while now (years) and love your work! I'm an expat South African now living in Melbourne and feel that your one of my good mates! Thank you
Nice Green side tutorial. I use the 7-8 iron all the time. As the short game guru Uncle Dave Pelz would say Chip instead of Pitch, pitch instead of lob
When I was over playing in Thailand last month I did learn on that tropical grass to use less loft when chipping I started off using the 50degree lob wedge for my chipping but by the time I left LOS I was using the 9Iron I just found I was getting better contact with the less lofted club with the grass the way it is there
If you go to the range any time soon think "finish high'. When I went in to my fitting last November I was hitting them like that and the fitter had me open my shoulders and think "finish high". It corrected me on the spot. He said that the high finish generally keeps you from turning over as much.
yo i am having the same issue with my drives right now(hook). ive watched a few of yours over and over trying to figure it out and it looks like you are doing exactly what I am trying to fix in my swing. In your back swing your swing path is wrapping back around you instead of being more in a straight line. it causes the head to come thru center and sweep left and the club face over shuts. If the swing path comes straight back towards the camera it may cause a slice at first but it will fix that hook! great videos man keep it up!
Love the video! Next time I play, I'm going to think about your video the next time I have a chip next to the green and "automatically" grab for my 56 wedge. I'll change and grab the 7, 8 or PW instead given the situation.
When you were on the tee box you said “Right is good”. I really like that. Don’t say “there is a scary hazard to the left”! That makes your brain focus on it, and our body is great at guiding the ball to where we focus. Use this to your advantage (just like you did) by saying “Right is good” and taking dead aim at a specific target. You hit a little hooker but you had the right idea. Waddaplaya.
Loved the "Hole It" rule. You're paying to practice, play and improve. Gimmes are such a lame save of 5 seconds for everyone. Get that ball in the cup!
These videos helped me zen the fuck out on the golf course and play so much more relaxed and in the long run helped improve my game drastically. Golf is so addicting and can be so difficult and frustrating on any given day. But if you really take the mental step of knowing these things and saying these things, visualizing them too. You're on your way to become a "playa" playa✌🏻🙌🏻😂
New subscriber and today I played as a playa and only lost one ball and played golf as a playa. Splitting my distances into multiple shots. I did make some stupid shots but by and large, I was a playa and took shots o could make. Using my hybrid and 8 and 9 to chip instead of a gap or sand wedge.
@@GolfSidekick not quite beast more like beast like. I could almost hear your voice asking me if I really wanted to take that shot. lol. I cut strokes off today by focusing on the largest part of the green instead of the pin. This way of the playa really works. Love it. And I totally slowed my swing down and focused on making it smoother and I lost about 10-20 yards per club but my accuracy more than made up for the lack of distance. Distance will come with practice. Thank you, Playa.
7 Woods are easy to hit and in my case I was getting similar distance to my 5 Wood. As an alternative tee club I use a 16 degree 4 wood, but it wants to go left if I don't weaken my grip a little. Bump and run style hybrid shots are easy with single length Hybrids ( 7 iron length shafts) using a putting stroke; my most versatile club in the bag!
One video idea I have for you and I think a lot of us would like to see, maybe has to be a collab with pro Mo or someone but I would like to see a video about competitive golf/playing out of our comfort zones/more stressful golf.
Thanks for the tip playa. I was worm burning or chunky monkey all day yesterday with my P/S/G... At one point they all looked really thirsty. Lake throw.
Totally right on the 7 wood. My mate hits his long irons left, right, very left or very right (handicap 19). Standard. He bought a 7 wood Ping online and now he hits it 190 yds straight as a bullet every time. 160 straight qs a bullet 3/4 shot. And 130 straight just over half swing. He doesn't need a 4, 5 or 6 iron anymore. It's his gap iron! Ridiculous club.
Where can I find myself a 7 wood? Is it more forgiving/ easier to hit than regular woods/ hybrid? I don’t like hitting my hybrid anymore. Always end up hitting 6i which leaves me not able to hit more than 140 yds on my 2/3rd shot. Great content as always! Nikanti looks awfully narrow from the back tee.
We think way too much on the putting green. Paralysis by analysis. Nice approach to focus on chipping to kickoff 2.0. Great content as always Playa. Keep rockin that positive energy!

Need to work on putting now…(took no gimmies) I’ll be posting my video this wkend. If you get a chance to check out, I would love your thoughts! Thanks Playa!
Matt, your closing the club face over at impact too quickly. Hence the big right hook. The pros keep the face square for as long as possible through the hitting zone. Right arm under at finish rather right arm over.
i am really confident with my 56 or 52 so i dont do bump and runs but thats just because im confident with my game and I dont practive hitting a hybrid off the green
The first shot close to the green, here is what i do. Take my 58 degree. Keep stance even with target and weight on front foot. Ball near middle. Lean club forward. Take club back as needed for distance. Then chip / chop at the ball. Gets up in air with back spin. It hits green and slows due to spin.
This man is a ball striker. It takes lots of reps to develop consistency with stabby high lofted chip shots but if you have it in the bag more power to ya. Most of us just find it easier, and importantly more repeatable, to club up and almost take a putting stroke to just get the ball rolling towards the hole. Go low my brotha ⛳️!
@@_warren6659 you are right on the reps needed. I have done many times where i miss behind the ball and it goes blading across the green or chunked way short. Pin position, green layout and ball setup determine if i hit that shot or P wedge bump and run.
Boyfriend. If I'm not mistaken, you had an instructor once, long time ago, give you a tip about chipping from a downhill lie. He had you pivot your stance so that your toes were pointing almost at your target. I've been doing that ever since and my consistency of strike if MUCH better. I noticed in this video your downhill lie chips you had a more square stance. Maybe revive that old tip.
You asked “I don’t know why I’m hooking it” and let me start by saying that you are much better than I. But, this is something I’ve been struggling with and I think it’s from releasing or “casting” too early in the downswing! I was dealing with an 11 degree closed face out of nowhere this season. Try holding it a bit longer… might help. May not :)
I've been having the same problem. I play for the draw and I say to myself..."how can I fade the ball when my clubface is closed? Now I know the feeling of casting...sometimes my arms get too far behind my body and last second they go after the ball to try to save the swing which usually ends up in a bad shot. I think part of the answer to this is to make sure you are rotating rather than more of a lateral motion. Now if you have read this far I think part of the answer to solving the hooking problem next time you are out on the range is focus on your swingpath. Don't look at the ball but look at the blur of your club as you hit the ball. Make sure it is going inside to out rather than outside to in.
So… I was watching the RBC on Golf Channel today and one of the commentators mentioned a lot of PGA guys are starting to put 7 woods in their bags again. And I’m like, Of course they are, because Matt the BAUS is smoking the ever-living bejesus out of his and they want to embrace The Way of The Playa and GIOTG. Boom!
This course is expensive but it includes so much. The rate is posted at their website. If walking, and before caddy tip, golf in Thailand normally will cost from US$25 to US$50 depending on course. Phuket will be more as will the "prestige" courses everywhere.
Life is too short. Wanna go Thailand. What price do you pay for a round in Chang Mai or Banchock? Is there a Golfnow equiv in Thailand? How much do you tip the Caddies?

You seem like you would be a lot of fun to play with. If you ever find yourself in the Great White North, give us shout out. And we will have a Shoot out. It will be silly 🙃
My biggest problem is smash, I want to smash everything. I’ve thought about moving up to seniors tees and just playing everything soft just a simple swing no hard swings.
NEW MERCH IDEA for a t-shirt!!!!!! Front side: Bump ‘n Run (pocket location) Back side: Low loft saves lives Or just sell two different tees. I just freaking love the idea of a t-shirt that says ‘Low loft saves lives’ would totally buy one and wear it during sexy time with the wife.
My biggest problem is on the range I'm Dustin Johnson and hit like a beast. Even draws and natural fades. And hit the ball straight. But once I get on the course it's like I've never played golf before!!!!! Why is that player? I'm taking lessons. He's helped me out alot because I hit the ball so well on the range. But on course it falls apart
Mmmm baus matt would say.. Playa just play golf, commit to your shot.? I did the same thing, because the out come doesn't matter, so you " just hit the shot"? Be well playa.
cause you're probably not that great on the range as you think you are. hit 10 in a row doing a fade everytime. are they 10-15 yards off your aiming line every time? can I say a number to you and you know exactly which club to pull out of your bag and then hit that distance by feel? can you pull out the driver on the range and hit one down the middle, accurate, without 3-4 warm up shots before you hit one good one? those things at the range are blinding you from all of the things you aren't doing well. hitting a 7 iron off a flat tight lie into a wide open field isn't hard brotha! the only thing the range is good for is making good contact consistently and finding out your shot shapes, otherwise the rest you learn on a golf course. distances, how to play trees, chip shots, how to manage the course etc. hope you get to where you want to be.
C B 33 no my shits are consistent for each club themselves. Very consistent. I don't just hit balls either. I play like I'm on the course to get the feel for each club weight and feel. I'll go through all my clubs first as a warm up. Then I play the driver, switch to mid iron. 7 or 8 then a wedge. I rinse and repeat from there switching the clubs up. So I'm saying it must be the mental aspect of the game

What model is that 7 wood? Looks lovely

Thanks Matt. Great content! Love your videos.@@GolfSidekick
Fonzie 🤣
There's a TH-cam video where Seve talks about opening the club face then regripping the club. Seve was a True Playa 👍
I'm consistently between 105 and 96 but the 60 degree is the best club in my bag. My putter definitely is not lol
Boom!
Or because Dustin Jackson has one in the bag too
I love the sound of dropping putts!
Also, when trying to play the flop shot. Squat. Drop your hoop towards the floor. Ball forward in the stance and cut the legs off it.
Changed to the bumb and run on 90% of chips this year. Went from a 8 strokes gained handicap to a plus 4 in chipping. 0-20 yards. 54 degree-7 iron.
Great video as per usual! What does a round of golf cost over there?
This course is expensive but it includes so much. The rate is posted at their website. If walking, and before caddy tip, golf in Thailand normally will cost from US$25 to US$50 depending on course. Phuket will be more as will the "prestige" courses everywhere.
This is $120
Thanks guys. Beautiful courses in Thailand !
Golf is about imagination, you simulate the shot in your mind, then you commit! GIOTG⛳
Life is too short. Wanna go Thailand. What price do you pay for a round in Chang Mai or Banchock? Is there a Golfnow equiv in Thailand? How much do you tip the Caddies?
7 wood addiction I like it 👏🏼
I feel I gonna live this series
Fantastic flop shot brother!!
take away seems inside on the woods making the hook happen
Waddafrickinglife ! Where’s Mojangles ?
18:46 Dave reference possibly Matt?

I can see your comments finally!
@@GolfSidekick 💪🏻🙏🏻🤘🏻😎🤘🏻 cool me happy with that. Thx sir 🙏🏻
Try to weaken your grip if its hooking or rotate your body more thru the swing you might be flipping alittle
Lovely course.
2:50 Best part right here 😜
7:07 The magnificent 7Wood
Why hybrid over the putter
That sound is music to my ears ....! ..... 😂😂😂
18:46 Now playas I know have to stop talking but you are my friends, we are all alone in this world together lol
yes just in time for me to buckle down and try to break 100 for the first time
I need to start playing with a caddie so I can blame my bad shots on them.
Look, nobody ever knows where the ball is going. Accept it and be happy when it does, what you want !
Breaking 90 is easy, but I wanna get to breaking 80. That's so damn hard.
More Fonzi!!
NEW MERCH IDEA for a t-shirt!!!!!!
Front side: Bump ‘n Run (pocket location)
Back side: Low loft saves lives
Or just sell two different tees.
@@CB-rv2lj I also play the pins as well. But yes if you were to say a range and where to hit it I would know which club to grab
