Thank you! These are definitely some of the best tutorials for Davinci Resolve and Fusion, especially because you don't do the simple basics but rather full depth tutorials. Great content, hope your channel grows fast!
Hey thank you very much! We are trying to strike the right balance between making our content accessible to most and actually empowering creators with real tools rather than gadget tutorials. We will also have additional content in a shorter and efficient form for touching on the basics and best practices and it's coming real soon.
Wicked tutorial! You could probably take it even one step further by adding a subtle glow node to the screen area to make it appear like it's self-illuminated.
Thank you very much! Yes definitely, this is a solid base that is easy to build on. It is also rather simple to separately record a library of reflections to overlay on the top of it.
Do you guys have any "Learn Fusion" complete courses? Your tutorials are pretty awesome, but I would love to learn even more, and not afraid to pay for this quality of instruction.
We actually have several long form Fusion courses in production at the moment. We were expecting to release them earlier but they represent an insane amount of work to be delivered at the level of finish that our community might now expect and we had to delay any new content until other projects and life events cleared out. We’ll be actively back at it after the holidays though and… those will be on our channel free of charge.
@Core and Blue that is so amazing in so many levels. You guys are a phenomenal team of instructors and a cute couple! Thanks for letting me know. I'm so looking forward to it!
All I can say is WOW! You are a very clever man indeed. I didn't understand it all, my poor brain had steam coming out of both eyes but it was great to watch. Remember me when you hit 1 million subs!
Just used some useful information from this amazing well explained video! I was searching how to create border to have a more realistic image. Great job! Really it helped me a lot to learn!
I was gonna click away to another video, but then i was taken back at the manner in which he sometimes looks at the camera and speaks as if he's disappointed in me, and frankly i think i needed that lol
Awesome Video! I'm currently struggling with a screen replacement of handheld footage, without tracking markers and someone passing in front of the screen! It's not going well haha
Hey thank you! That’s a tough one. Hard to tell without seeing the footage but is there anyway that you could stabilise the shot in Fusion before attempting to track the screen?
Amazing work - love you integrated text and zoomed in on the node tree when required, super helpful! Quick questions though, how do you create those dummy nodes (mini squares) in the node tree to clean it up?
Thanks you very much! Those little squares are called router nodes and you can add them by doing [Option] or [Alt] + click on any connection. They are super useful to keep everything tidy and you can even branch their output toward multiple nodes.
Not sure if TH-cam is deleting my comment? I commented this yesterday and I apologize if it is a duplicate. Do you have any tips on how to "fix" a track on more challenging scenarios? I am currently manually keyframing the position of my corner pins at every frame and was hoping that Fusion has a smarter way to do that instead. Imagine if a tablet is being flipped around the scene and I had to replace the screen throughout the motion. Let me know if you have any insight! Thanks 😊
Your previous comment had to be automatically deleted by TH-cam. It wouldn't be the first time that their algorithm got trigerred for no reason. About your question. It really depends of your particular shot and there is no perfect quick solution when the screen is being flipped. You can be sure that there will be some keyframming in most cases. What you could try at least to make it a little less daunting, is to divide your scene in different sections individually tracked. You can then keyframe the few frames in between. One more technical but really clean option to avoid distortion is to add a 3D plane holding the composite that is then manually matched move to the element in the scene. I would only recommend this solution if the issue was critical as this is not easy. You can see those jarring issues all the time in hollywood movies and VFX artists often spend weeks manually compositing this kind of effect on complex scene. Watched Ad Astra few days back and at a moment, Brad Pitt is flipping a see trought tablet and if you pay attention, you'll notice that the composite is shifting. :D
@Core and Blue it might be because I tried to link my attempt of video on another platform and it disliked it 🤷🏽♀️ Thank you again, you guys are a wealth of knowledge. And it makes me feel great to hear the big screens also struggle sometimes 😅 I'll definitely be streaming that tonight!
Thanks. This is a great tutorial :D I’m about to embark on a journey with screen replacements. The DOP didn’t shoot with any trackers though, so I just pray I can get something working. I want to use Resolve and stay away from Nuke if I can. Let’s see how it goes :D
Hey, sounds like fun. Depending of the type of shot, no trackers might lead to some keyframe work but I am sure you'll make it work. VFX planning during pre prod is such a fundamental part but is often overlooked. 😅
I have a question for you! I have an over the shoulder shot where the character is looking at his phone. On the lower frame is the character’s shoulder, he raises the phone up and the phone is initially obscured partially by his shoulder. Then the top of the phone partially leaves the top frame, then the phone is lowered out of frame, being obscured by his shoulder as it’s lowered. The screen within the shot is green, but without any track markers, the tracking only works well whilst the phone isn’t obscured, the thing I’m struggling with the most is keeping the phone’s dimensions intact as I manually frame by frame correct the tracking. When the phone is lowered it turns slightly and I do not know how to allow for perspective type of tracking when manually adjusting frame by frame. Is there a way around this? I’m desperate for a solution, Cheers
I've been playing around with the planar tracker in Fusion, but running into some interesting issues using footage that's a different resolution than the main comp. Do they all need to be the same resolution like with AE? This video was so crisp and right to the point, def +1 sub from me!
First, thank you very much! By issues, do you mean the tracker overlay that appears shifted inside the viewer or something else? First check if you have Timeline Proxy mode activated inside the playback menu as this can cause this kind of issues. Fusion is resolution independent and can deal with mismatched resolution but sometime, you do have to add background, resize or crop nodes to have everything work nicely together.
@@CoreAndBlue timeline proxy mode was off, but using my own footage it was coming in as a super thin strip like there was additional transparent background. It's hard to describe. That was screencast from an iPhone and it came in as 888x1920. Since I have an M1 Max, I loaded the same app onto my Mac, screencast the same video in 1920x1080 and THAT file works perfectly along with your tutorial files (ps - worth way more than the coffee I sent!). I can only think it has something to do with that crazy 888x1920 resolution.
@@lorawaloski that’s an odd one indeed. Can’t be sure without looking at it but usually, a background node in the right place does the trick. Glad it all worked in the end but if you ever have a question, we’ll help if we can. And thank you for the coffee! It was a tasty one. 😋

Hey, this is the pipe router tool and you can very quickly add one to your node flow by holding the [Option] or [Alt] key and clicking on a pipe. You can then move it around.
@@POSYPANO Orthogonal is the way to go for a fast and clean layout and usually what we use in our compositions. Pipe routers are then great for extra control but also to cleanly drive a pipe to another tool sitting far in the node tree. Very handy when you start using single masks for multiple elements.
Ah si nous pouvions tout faire 😄. Au delà du fait que nous parlons nous meme principalement Anglais, cela nous permet de partager notre contenu a un public plus large. Quand TH-cam nous permettra de faire du multi-piste audio, ce sera top. 🤟🏼
When I use the Planar Tracker on a moving screen and I want to do a screen replacement, how do I hide some part of it out of the video because it looks off whenever I play the video frame-by-frame because the screen I want to replace comes off screen and leaves off screen. I just dont know how to move the screen replacement to match it where it's moving off screen and on screen.
Screen moving on and off frame is definitely the most challenging (This is why in movie they usually avoid this kind of shot). If the screen doesn't have a precision markers like the one we made, it will require manual keyframing the corner pins for the few frames in and out. You can also make a multi-segment tracking if the screen goes in and out multiple times to avoid finishing with one big mess.
@@CoreAndBlue I do have a quick question. When I'm in Fusion, my media is not scaled to size. Like I have it zoomed in in the edit tab, but it's showing up as 1920x1080. I pressed 2 for an editing I was doing, but now I don't know how to fix it to where it's how I have it in the edit tab.
This is because in order of processing, the Fusion page comes before the Edit and Color one. So any modification done to the Edit page is applied after it receives the image from the MediaOut. The only way to have a Fusion composition added after a transformation from the Edit page is to create a compound clip first (right click on the clip on the timeline) and then build the composition in it.
Don't forget to download the assets, including our tracking markers and try to make some wicked stuff with it. :)
