King Baudouin was a great leader. He will never be forgotten because of his courageous crusade for the rights of the unborn and for refusing to liberalize the abortion laws of Belgium. He was a great champion for the poor and suffering. He was loved greatly throughout the entire world, and still is.
Let's give prayers that King Philippe and in future Queen Elisabeth (currently Duchess of Brabant) can follow his example, as King Albert II did to an extent.
King Baldwin's wife, Queen Fabiola, is in white with King Albert II on her left. I believe that it is Queen Paola on his left. I had the great luck to meet both King Baldwin and Queen Fabiola in 1967 in Assisi in Santa Maria degli Angeli. We were all very impressed by their charisma and charm. Truly noble people. Lovely music of Purcell and fine singing. Lech Walesa at 6:50, a great Catholic and Freedom fighter. Thank you for posting, Renaat. God bless Belgium.
This was quite rare. It was indeed the second and, so far, last time, Queen Elizabeth II attended a royal occasion abroad. The first one was in 1962 for the Silver Wedding celebrations of Queen Juliana & Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands, in Amsterdam.
It's been exceedingly rare for any British monarch to attend a state or royal wedding or funeral, opting to send a younger member instead. She attended Baudouin's funeral because she deeply respected him and was willing to set aside her own protocol to go.

is fabiloa wearing white, or is that yellow? is there a reason she was not in traditional black? must be some personal thing between she and her husband. or is it a Spanish thing?
+Hubertus Venator The privilège du blanc is a tradition that allows catholic queens and princesses to wear white during papal audiences. What colour to wear during mourning is a personal choice, I guess.
There is no official rule that states British Sovereigns can't attend weddings, funerals or birthdays parties abroad. It became a custom that they use to stay at home and send other family members to represent them. In 1913, King George V & Queen Mary attended the wedding of the Kaiser's daughter, in Berlin. This funeral was in August, Queen Elizabeth II was holidaying at Balmoral so, there was no excuse for not attending. For coronations indeed no foreigns Sovereigns use to attend.
I believe her attending had less to do with not having an excuse because she was at Balmoral (she doesn't need and excuse) than who he was and their governmental histories.

The priest started with the sign of the cross in French, and then speaks a word of compassion in Dutch, followed with the same text translated in French and a summary of that text in Italian.

There was no French commentary when Flemish was spoken.
