May I propose that you venture to Boundary Lakes in Hampshire? I played on Saturday and lost 19 balls! It was loads of fun, but a very difficult course with some lovely and loathsome holes! Loving the videos 👍🏼

Your channel has inspired me to seek levels of mediocrity I've previously thought beyond me. If you're a complete novice and haven't any golf-playing friends (I have a friend who's up for taking the plunge with me), what would you advise as the best route into the game? We live in Bristol and haven't done anything beyond pitch and putt with a few ales under the bridge - would it be best to hire/borrow some clubs, rock up at a golf course and just go for it? I've always had the preconception that it's quite a snooty, exclusive community: I'm hoping that's just my prejudice rather than a fact! Any tips to get going from you all would be most gratefully received.
Liam Owen I would advise maybe getting a beginners lesson with a local pro. He may also have some cheapish second hand clubs for sale or point you in the right direction. Then go for it at your nearest pay and play course. Not nearly as snobbish as you imagine. Most players will go out of there way to help and very friendly. Enjoy.
I am confused! Alex you have had a lesson to increase your backswing however what you have achieved is the same length of backswing but with a pronounced stutter! I would maybe go back to your old swing that was working pretty well, especially with the driver.... And what happened to your putting this round? I think you need to introduce a hand on hip move following every shot. Loving the videos guys they make my day and make me feel much better about my game.
John. I was listening to your 5 live show, and you was talking about golf and handicaps. You mentioned that if you got a par on a par 3, tiger woods would have to get a hole in one so you would still potentially beat him. Now I'm useless at golf and know nothing about the handicap system. Please could you elaborate more for the viewers that are more like myself. P.s have you clever been to scotch corner services? (As you have been to many) Take care.
I didn't listen to the radio show but pretty confident John is referring to the amount of shots Tiger Woods would have to give John given Tiger is (in theory) off scratch, meaning 0 handicap. Assuming John's handicap is 36 (I don't know if it is). Tiger would have to give John 2 shots on every hole (18 holes x 2 shots = 36 handicap). So yes, if John got a par on par 3, Tiger would have to get a hole in one to score the same, it would actually be equivalent to a half.
Remember however that max handicap for men is 28 (36 is for ladies and juniors) so only 2 shots on the 10 hardest holes and one on the other 8. So on some par 3s John would only get one shot. Also, based on John's scores across the year so far he's probably a 24 hcp'er.

John can be a bit of a bully. He has no problem asking to borrow Alex’s clubs but if the shoe were on the other foot he would have thrown in the caveat “for an immediate forfeiture of the hole for using a club you didn’t start with”

It is a reference to how many stokes have been taken on that hole. '4th shot as we lie' or 'I am laying 4' meaning the next shot would be your 5th.

This is actually a decent course. Quite short but very challenging. Can understand why John doesn’t like it going as quite ‘unorthodox’.
